Must be wanting to show off Metricon.

Team announcements seem okay but Brad Green!?

Trent McKenzie will be amazing to watch, he'll just bomb it from halfway all game.
Average player knowledge right here.

Green was a top junior soccer player, hence his inclusion.

EDIT: beaten to it.

According to the AFL website 28th October@ Etihad and 4th November at wtf Gold Coast?? That is laughable what are they trying to do now confuse the poor Queenslanders and promote another game?

Yeah, because we are so stupid up here we wouldn't know the difference.

Thanks for caring.

Now that your Grand Final and our All Ireland Final are both over it must be that time again when we start insulting each other about what cry babies/toughs/hard men/softies etc each others players are.

Having said that we are one up already having stuffed your RU team and listened to your journos whingeing like pommes ever since!:D

Whats the news anyway ? Is Mick Malthouse still the manager? Does anybody give a toss? Will all our lads and lassies now in NZ make it back to Aussie in time for the games?

The reason I am on BigFooty is because I don't care about rugby.

Who cares about that boring shit ??

As for the OP i ma a fan of the International series ..i'd like to see Judd, Murphy, Simpson play..and for a bit of fun Mitch Robinson..i'd love to see the Irish try and intimidate him ;)

I'll be going down.
Did a couple of years ago.
Its not footy but its about the closest thing to it in October when there seems to be a spot where cricket season hasn't really started but footy season is over.

If the AFL had made the announcement that the 2nd test would be up on the Gold Coast at the start of the year and not mid-year, I would have switched my trip up there from the Gold Coast v Adelaide match in August to this match.

Was looking at heading across to the Etihad match, but as it's spring racing carnival weekend, accommodation costs put a quick end to that idea.

I love the International Rules. Something different at a time of the year there isn't much other decent sport on.

Unfortunately it will be shown on Channel 10 - so we'll have to put up with Quartermain and co for two more weeks.

Somebody asked whats the population of Ireland - the whole island is about 6.4 million - 1.8 million in the north with one million of these having no interest in Gaelic Games and the rest in the republic where Gaelic Games - football and hurling are the biggest sports followed by soccer and Rugby (Union)

Somebody else mentioned the Gooch Cooper - probably the best forward in Gelic Football in the last 25 years. I don't think ke will be in the team. As well as a hard year as captain of Kerry he is also captain ofhis home club Killarney Dr. Crokes who are still in the Kerry County Championship. Any way he is physically to slight for International Rules

I wonder what the crowds will be like. Surely they would sell out on the Gold Coast? And maybe 45k for Etihad? Or am I being over ambitious?

The Provisional Irish Squad of 31

Its a very good squad in my opinion, full of exeperienced IR players, some exciting young talent and I particularly can't wait to see Hanley, Tuohy and Walsh play with the round ball again. Some star names are missing however due to local club games and work commitments, can't be helped.

On the Australian side, looking forward to seeing McKenzie and Trengove in particular, 2 great young players.

McKenzie has amazing speed, which will hopefully showcase well.

Little worried about his boot on the ball though. Kicking a round ball is very different from a footy. Hopefully won't be any mega sprays.

Zac Smith was hoping to make it from mid-year, with his soccer background.

There are some Lions playing it seems, or at least one. On the Irish side though. :D

Is there anybody with the technical skills to resurect a famous post from October 2002 from the legendary 'Hardyarse' describing 'A Gaelic Football Fan's First Impression of Australian Rules' It's one of the funniest things ever posted and would get this years mud slinging off to a decent start.

Unfortunately it will be shown on Channel 10 - so we'll have to put up with Quartermain and co for two more weeks.

Not sure if that's the case actually, I remember reading somewhere a few months ago that ten didn't want to show the IR series anymore, preferring that the grand final be their final AFL-related broadcast.

Wonder how Suckling will go with his kicking style.
Seems to be a young squad with a premium placed on long kicking.

Accuracy may be an issue, as would hardness if the game wasn't against a bunch of Gaelic football fruits.

Most of our county championships are still ongoing at the moment so that is having an effect on team selection.
For example, Dublin are the 2011 All-Ireland champions but they'll only have one player in the IR squad (and he's a goalkeeper) as most of their players will be playing for their local clubs.
Work commitments have ruled some other players out as well.

I'd be indebted if someone can post the Garry McIntosh highlights from the inaugural 1980's series.
