I'm going to be there. I love the format. It's great to see the AFL stars performing in a combined sport where they show what true champs they are. (this goes for the Irish as well)

It's sort of like seeing K. Hunt go from League to AFL.Eexcept you get to watch a whole team of true champs take on a new game and really test their skills.

It's the only international format AFL really has. Well the only one with real competition. Gotta be worth something.

Would have been going if they hadn't taken it out of Perth. Stupid move to send it up to Metricon. :thumbsd:

Really, really hope that NicNat plays. Would be so good to watch.

Recently had surgery though so I highly doubt he will.

Exactly the comment that kills SOO or any other development of Australian Football .

Lol.

This isn't a development of Australian Football, it's a gimped derivative of Gaelic football. The whole thing is a joke, which I doubt the players really care about.

As soon as we gained any type of competitive edge in the comp, we would be forced to conform to new rules, limiting any advantage we could bring from our sport.

We can't even tackle them FFS, yet we have to cop shit from the Irish every year, acting as if their players are so much tougher than ours. They're the ones crying like school girls whenever the slightest hint of physicality is introduced into these games.

It would be an absolute waste to see a player go down with a LTI from one of these games. The IR trophy has no worth in the context of the AFL season, which is what we all actually care about.

I don't know what regard the Irish hold the comp in, but I know very few Aussies who have any care for it whatsoever.

No one really cares about it here either.
The players seem to like it, but if they cancelled the whole thing there wouldn't be much of a fuss.

Haven't read the rest of this thread but the players who get involved love it.

I spoke to Travis Varcoe earlier this year (who played last year and got injured in the process, setting back his preseason) and he described it as the highlight of his career. Even above the 2009 flag.

Its great that they have moved a game to Metricon, gives QLD'ers a chance to see this game as well, was getting sick of not seeing an IR game up here - it is quite entertaining esp seeing blokes who normally would be smashing into each other - sheppard each other and play as teammates.

Pretty sure shepparding is illegal in IR .
Do wish they would have a three test series .

Yes, why don't they? Surely another game in Perth this year would have drawn a big crowd. Is it something to do with pre season training?

Why only two matches? Its not to do with preseason its because the Irish lads all have work to go back to!

It will be interesting to see what the Aus media make of the Irish Captain, Stephen Cluxton. He has had a great year as Dublin goalkeeper and in private life is a science teacher. He is a very quiet laid back lad who never speaks to the press and had to be dragged out of the dressingrooms after Dublin won the All-Ireland to join in the celebrations! He is said to be a great motavator and is a terrific goalkeeper!

Cluxton is a legend.
Wanted to go back to work the day after they won the final and the headmaster had to order him to take a couple of days off.
Here's the winning kick for our aussie chums.

That's it, get your excuses in before the event. A real Australian invention, alongside the lawn mower.

Let's forget that this series attract large crowds and ratings in Ireland and Australia. If some AFL fans are so worried that their AFL stars will be injured representing Australia then fine . Why don't we give it to the second tier competitions to provide a team .After all ther Irish are still basically amateurs with a small population .That would provide balance and we could then have a more aggressive balance of the rules .!!!

I never knew that.
You're a font of knowledge.
Tell us what else we don't know?

Well I know a lot of people who really enjoy the game and look forward to it .
Here in Perth it's been a huge success with sellout games and a real party atmosphere that starts well before kick-off and extends post game to the public houses of Subiaco .

I guess that sums Perth up perfectly then. Then again, we're looking at Perth through the lense of it's own version of Goebbels.

Yes , it's a great place all round and when we get our new stadium things will be even better .You should come across relax a bit and enjoy yourself .Seems that you're too anxious about one of your stars being hurt .
I wouldn't worry .Is anyone from Richmond in the team ?

I'm not the one constantly feeling the need to defend my sport.
As to the lack of Tigers are in the team: who cares?

I'm not the one constantly feeling the need to defend my sport.

What sport is that ?

As to the lack of Tigers are in the team: who cares?

So now you don't care if one of your precious tiges gets trashed ?
Make up your mind son .
One way or the other .
The high way or the low road .

I'm not the one constantly feeling the need to defend my sport?

Whose sport are you referring to yours or mine ?
Don't get upset and attack me because you hide behind the vagaries of the English language . Explain yourself man ! Make it clear .

You made it very clear that you were upset at the prospect of AFL players being potentially injured in th eupcoming IR series .If the Tigers don't have any players in the squad , then no Tiger players can get injured .No injuries to Tiger players should make you happy . Right ? Or does nothing seem to malke you happy ?

Vagaries. You like that word, don't you.

I was referring to the sport you follow.

What sport would you wish I preferred?

I made no such statement about being upset about Aussie Rules players potential injuries. So don't even attempt to put words in my mouth.
