the big scheme of things the irish in these series are the perennial whinger's, they chuck the boots in and then whinge about the results of their actions on the field and have been doing it for some time.

That is true, but a few of our counterparts are doing the same tonight.

We picked a team of complete crabs, that's why we got rolled. Easton Wood FFS.....he's probably the worst player in the AFL. No surprise he's the worst player in International rules as well.

Big lolz at keane2097.

Australians send out a tough team in past years and the Irish had a cry. To accommodate the whingers, Australia sent out a soft team here. Then the Irish all invade Bigfooty to tell us how soft we are. No shit, we had to bring ourselves down to the Irish level. Robinson was a start, but I'd love to see how the Irish go against guys like Campbell Brown, Dean Brogan, Ivan Maric, Travis Cloke, Matt Thomas etc.

lads let me clear this up, the guy that pearce took out is graham gerathy, and no one ever over here made him out to be a hardman..EVER!. he has a reputation for been maybe nasty in a niggly kind of way but not in a physical way. so stop posting videos of that if you havent the facts. geraghty wasnt even a physical GAA player FFS.

Who the hell cares about this game. It's nothing more than a gimmick.

If Ireland played us in a game of Aussie Rules we would absolutely belt them. The fact that we've beaten them at their own game so many times is comical.

No need to go back that far for videos, here's one from a couple of weeks ago:

 They'd probably win by 50.

Ah yeah, I'm obv just taking the piss - ye're best would obv kill ours in a fight, although in fairness there have been series in the past where ye sent strong teams that weren't just there to box and it was still pretty close on the scoreline.

Late 90s maybe if I remember correctly?

GAA players are never gonna match AFL guys physically when you consider AFL guys are probably in the gym lifting weights for the same amount of time the GAA players spend doing their day jobs.

Just saying, when you tell us what sport you want to play it's usually grand.

See for reference Rugby World Cup. We gave your boys a hell of a beating in that as well.

Perhaps if you direct that at somebody from New South Wales or Queensland, they'll care. I can't stand rugby in any form lol.

You have a big mouth, you'd end up in a bog if you talked shit like that in some places in Ireland.

Not that you would, you're a typical keyboard warrior.

What this basically boils down to.

Kettle: "Hey you, yeah I'm talking to you pot... You're black!"

Nice work champ.

all i remember was his tyres being pumped up no end that year, on a side note, who was the burly lad that came down here the last series in australia who had big wraps?

Let's bring these guys back, see if they'll call us soft after that game.

 They'd probably win by 50.

They'd win the match, but we'd win the fight ;)

That's not why Australia got rolled. Australia needed to release the ball quicker by hand.

They were gaining possession but then not supporting each other enough with link play which lead to the Irish being able to zone the Australians off.

Australia also needed to avoid playing alone the lines. This is a strength of Ireland and that allowed them to hold the Australians up and limit their effectiveness entering the forward third.

What Australia need to do is play a more direct game through the central coridoor and use Smith as a focal point up forward and have him either marking or putting it to the feet of Australian players running past.

Aussie players were moving too sideways in their support of each other when running. sideways passing ala rugby style isnt the way to break down Ireland. They need to run more through the lines and be more direct.

Undoubtedly, but it'd be like a bunch of adults beating up a bunch of teenagers - it's good craic while you're at it, but it still makes you kind of a douche.

There isn't really an argument that guys who play a more physical game professionally shouldn't be able to beat up guys who play a less physical sport in their spare time.

i noticed the same thing, they are trying to play too "aussie rules" if you like and they arent running and supporting, they arent utilising all the exploits of the rules like tap ons, throws and soccer kicks. not to mention the 4 handball rules screws with most of the aussie players thinking of quick movement by hand, a couple of times i saw today the over use of the handball resulting in a turn over.

they are a young squad with a lot of small bodies, they will improve but this series is a write off.

Yeah and no short people.

What's a wrap? I probably know who you're talking about if it's an Irish player but I don't understand the description...

I suspect many Aus fans dont really see the old problems with how the IR rough stuff occurred in the past. When Danyle Pearce knocked out Graham Geraghty, nobody considered it a nasty tackle. The damage was done as Pearce swung Geraghty around and down hard into the ground. That's what concussed Geraghty. The fact he had been singled out in advance media coverage as a "target" for Aussie rough treatment added to the furore.

As an Irish fan of IR for a long time, I never wanted IR to become too sanitised. We also like a tough game, but just without the cynical pure dirt tactics that are not even a part of your own game. What would have happened to Chris Johnson if he tried that "clothes-line" in AFL? How about Matthew Scarlett's head punches? And the few times that an Irish player managed to effect a good tackle on an Aussie and pulled him to the ground, it often seemed the Aussie took it as an insult to his manhood and needed to retaliate in force.

Bottom line - many players on both sides claim they like the IR and want it to continue. It's easy to profess your support when you're own team are winning. Now that this Australia team, whether you think they are good or bad, really need a bit of support, are you going to turn your back on a team representing your country? Is that all you've got?

a lot of hype

Not sure tbh. Just had a look there at the squad and there wasn't anyone who there would have been a huge amount of hype about.

Possibly Kieran Donaghy - he'd come off the back of a couple of very good years and is a big unit.

He was playing in the forwards for us today, marking that guy with the long brown hair we were talking about earlier.

This is so sad.

You've got an Irish guy who you'll probably never see around here again celebrating like the Irish football side just want the World Cup, and a bunch of fish taking the bait like it's their last meal.

Take it for what it is. A made up sport with players who only half give a shit, whoever wins it wont matter a week later.

The only reason we needed to play a more direct game is that the skills were deplorable - much worse than usual. And that's because the team we picked was shithouse. Crab players in the AFL make for crab players in international rules. It's no surprise our best players in Kelly and Vince would be 2 of the best AFL players in the team. Most of the rest were at best honest triers, at worst complete spuds.
Didn't help that it looked like they watched a few episodes of play school before the match. It's pretty obvious they were told to lay off any sort of physicality. The only thing that came close was Robinson's attack on the ball in the 3rd, which only looked bad because the Irish guy squibbed it, went in half arsed and got hurt as a result.

Yeah and no short people.

Size is overall irelevant if you move the ball quickly and run with support.

Australia would be best served by not trying to hit targets on the chest.

There's more chance of error when trying to achieve that.

Play it like a real game of gaelic and just put the ball out in front/side of a team mate so they can run onto it.

That allows for the player to control the ball better, protect it, and allow team mates to stream pass and swarm the defence.
