  • Anyone calling for Miller to be dropped from the squad has no idea on the importance of structure and support. The reason Vickery and Jack are having solid a solid season is because we finally have a third tall. You want to see what he offers, watch his work rate in the third quarter of the Lions game. Yes he needs to slot a few more, but, unlike the last ten years, at least we have a guy who can get his hands on it and bring others into the play.
  • I am yet to see any player step up from the reserves and have a consistent impact or contribution. Blokes like Gourdis, Morton, Tuck, shouldn't get games for the sake of bringing them in.
  • People calling for McGuane to be replaced by Goo need to look at what our defence has leaked per game for the last 8 weeks, how many games have that defensive unit leaked over 100 points in this time? McGuane and Rance are doing a far better job than people realise.
  • We don't want to make the finals this year. I want to see finals action so, so bad, but i promise you, if we make it, we will be obliterated. We are not ready. It could have the opposite effect, and set us back a year. It's about prolonged success, i'd rather wait till next year if it meant possibly 6-8 years of consistent finals action.
  • Bachar Houli is possibly pick up of the year.
  • Griggs is not a ****ing ruckman.
  • Hislop will play his final game in the seniors either this week or next.
Feel free to discuss.

Miller has been pretty good , I agree he has enhanced our forward structure, we foolishly went into SYD game too short with astbury going down we had no choice but to throw Miller back. He will be fully charged against his old side with a point or two to prove. don't think for a minute he was happy playing the year out at VFL , he declined a token game end of year. Wouldn't suprise me at all to come out and kick 4 or 5

Hislop will be a starter this week with Kingy out. He has quietly settled back into senior footy, astute observers would have noted it his quick handball through traffic to axel that sealed the game...

Things that irritate me: posters saying 'We don't want to make finals".

At least discuss it in it's context Tugg. (Come at me brah).:D

Observed, but, Matty White offers more than this bloke. He's getting his chance, his skill level isn't there. Kicking is woeful.

Just because Essendon failed to make the finals the following year does not mean it will have that effect on us. If you go back over the stats through the years most teams who improve there position from outside the 8 to push inside the 8 stay there for the next few years. Don't be so delusional, the taste of finals will only make the players more hungry!

True, Miller does seem vital to our structure. Must hit him on the chest on the lead though as he can't go a yard when it hits the ground. White back in for King this week?

Agree with everything except the part about Hislop. Don't think he has really had a fair crack at it this year. First game in Sydney was played in fairly poor conditions, although I still enjoyed his attack on the ball. Last weekend against the Lions he didn't get much more than a quarter to show anything. With King going out this week I reckon he'll start on the ground and be given licence to create some havoc with his attack on the footy.

I hope you're right, but from what i have witnessed over the last month, our skill level wont stand up. And our younger bodies will tire by season's end. Big bodied teams always win finals (and flags).

That's why i'm estimating a month for him. And IMO the day blokes like Tommy aren't getting games, that's when i know we will have turned a corner.

Not wanting to make finals this year is ludicrous. Even if we do get belted it's experience under the belt for every player on our team. Understand? No one on this list has played finals (bar players traded for). It will make the younger blokes tougher and hungrier. Also, it's annoying when people call him 'Griggs'. His name is Grigg.

I'm sure Dimma and co would be pleased to be preparing for a finals match if given the chance but I don't believe they think we're ready to really compete. I reckon if we made it they would treat it as another learning experience more than anything else, you know prepare the group for when we are ready in 15 months time.

And he's not a ruckman nor a favirot for our clubs best and fairest. Not all experiences are good. How are the Saints holding up or the Dogs? There's a thing called mental scarring. I used to love knowing when i had the wood on (not in - pricks) blokes, and when you play team sports, you know it when you have a team stuffed. I guess what i'm suggesting is patience and the bigger picture. We all want finals, but it's about consistency and sustaining performance.
Take off your rose coloured glasses and really look at our skill level, then go watch Geelongor the Pies, then you will see what i'm talking about.

  • People starting threads like this thinking their opinion is the be all and end all and dismissing any other opposing views.

Sorry Barnzy, where am i dismissing views? Any part of feel free to discuss your not sure about?

What separates Richmond from Melbourne and Carlton is we do not tank - period. I truly believe we have more respect amongst knowledgable footy supporters because we do not tank. We are building a winning culture not wanting to make finals is completely contrary to that. Also who cares if we get smashed in a final against Collingwood or Geelong - we were smashed for much of last year and yet we have made dramatic improvements since then. I do not get the whole thesis not to play finals out of fear of losing that it somehow affects you the following year. If we are so scared of losing lets just drop down to playing VFL. I agree with all your other points though.

There's no doubt we're improving, and we'll improve again next year. It's great we have people stating the case for why we should. I guess i'm just putting a different perspective out there. I personally still think we are a team that will finish 12th to 8/9th. Time will tell.

I would argue with this point. Webberly, browne and gourdis have been consistently in the top performers at coburg. browne has started to hit some good form after a few weeks settling into the afl team, webberly has only just come in and so should be afforded the same time to settle, and gourdis has played consistently well that should mcguane have a shocker or two he would thoroughly deserve a chance.

edit: also, griggs is not a player either :P

Lovin the thread CB17 and alot of Gold in your OP except for the finals call . I was at the game on Saturday and there were Tigers everywhere. My guess is if we play finals it will be a game in Perth or Sydney. The experience would be priceless for such a young team.

The'd get to experience the build up and travel , the prep the whole kit and kaboodle. The other positive would be that the coaching staff will learn from it as well.

I seriously can not fathom how a finals loss could be a negative for our club or any club.

Great call on slops. Yes we haven't seen enough of him but I think we all know that we need to build for another 3 drafts when guys like this are being promoted off the rookie list.

In the words of Santa "SHEESH"

Bookmarked. If he does then you owe the FTF $100. If not... you get a pat on the back.:D

Woah woah woah ... hold on a second there turbo. Mental scarring? So what you're saying is that you'd like to save our blokes the mental anguish of having been in a final by not being there at all? If I recall, St. Kilda have been in 2 of the last 3 grand finals (4 if you count the draw) and the doggies have been in a prelim final for the last 3-4 years. Chalk and cheese my friend you cannot compare their results with ours. We have not even been close. I would prefer to expose them to this sort of thing early so that they know what they are in for when we are looking to have a legitimate crack at the flag.

Ah, sorry but I find this statement unfathomable and quite ridiculous.

We are talking about a competitive group of blokes who have aspired all of their lives to play a final at the MCG in front of 90,000 people. Imagine the buildup, the excitement, the anticipation! This team would be stoked to scrape into the finals by .0001%. They would leave their guts out on the ground whilst trying to win.

It would be amazing for everyone associated with the Tigers over the past decade. We would sell 10,000 additional memberships next year.

This is not some bureaucratic, 5 yr strategic management plan, it is competitive sport.

PLease make the finals Tigers!
