Do Not! Compare Jack Macrae to any member of The Beatles......that includes Ringo.
Disagree, love the notion. But I'm sure we can all agree that if anyone on the Bulldogs squad is like one of the Beatles, Libba is Ringo. :p

This seriously needs someone with photoshopping skills (with maybe Bont for John, Dunks for Paul)

Extremely good player but he is not better than Bontempelli.

I often see teams go to the painstaking lengths of strategizing to curtail's Bont's influence using multiple players i.e. deliberatly blocking his space + hard tag + niggles, nullifying formations/structures near his vicinity etc.

This doesn't happen to Macrae - he does cop the hard tag here and there but that is it.
Seems to be a general view that MacRae gets easy ball.

But if you watch him play he's just smarter than everyone else with his positioning and nobody can tackle him. He runs himself to the right spot all day.

He makes it look easier than it really is cos he's so bloody good.

btw.

And not that I encourage nit picking ie - 'He didn't win the b'n'f that year because he missed a couple games'

Ben Cunnington had more bog and votes than Jack Macrae.

He missed 7 games and the team plays for finished last.

Let that sink in.

The same Macrae that's polled over 20 more career votes than Cunnington in 40 less games :)

I admire you for sticking at this, especially seeing you didn't know what position Macrae played when you started the thread :)

Usually giving players kudos/credit/awards is done by their peers, coaches, media, fans etc.

The Brownlow gives the perspective of what the umpires see....the very people that participate in the game with the players.
Yep, umps know more than coaches. Im suprised not more umpires develop into coaches.

Maybe razor to carlton?

I'm struggling to see their perspective. To me, it's like one player can dominate in two consecutive games but only poll votes in one game. How do you see it?

It can be hit and miss at times.

People make mistakes.

But it’s important to have their point of view. With every other award (with exception of the players mvp) being judged by someone sitting down at the game or in front of the tele/laptop/phone.

Bont is the overrated Dogs midfielder if anything. 3 votes for a game he broke the clanger record? Please.

He also lacks Macrae's consistency, clearly shown by his cliff drop off in the back part of year leaving Wines to steal it.

I think Macrae is rated just fine. A good hard working midfielder in a strong team. Like Joel Corey really. Doesn't get the attention a lot of the other players around him do, but just does the job. Isn't as damaging as Bont, but probably more so then Hunter.

I don't get why Macrae is getting criticism, it isn't easy to accumulate the ball so often playing for a stacked midfield. He uses the ball so well, and is actually direct & progressive with his kicking, so he's making key passes that bypasses the opposition defensive zone/structure. I guess the only really thing missing from his game is hitting the scoreboard, but even then he's role in Bevo's side doesn't allow for him to drift forward and hit the scoreboard, he's playing in a regimented role where once Libba extracts the ball, it's macrae that kicks starts either the chain of handballs that make the bulldogs go inside 50, or at the very least he get's it to an open man and then the bulldogs can monopolize possession. He also is quite intelligent with his lead up, always drifting into dangerous areas in the corridor, which opens up the field, and because he's intricate with the way he moves the ball, always finding an oncoming runner which opens up the pitch, just creating relentless pressure. I think because Macrae doesn't burst from stoppages, get forward from centre bounce clearances, doesn't have a nasty streak abt him, he gets overlooked and is made out to be a stat padder, when he's quite complete as a player. I don't think I've ever seen one bulldogs supporter that don't rate Macrae, and normally he's rated top 3 in the bulldogs mids.
