As long as it keeps him occupied during his long recovery, and it definitely will, I am totally fine with it.

In general, anyone who aspires to be a manager in a corporate or government setting has an ego beyond control and should be immediately rendered unsuitable for managing other people.

Where I used to work the bloke in charge of ordering the stationery included MBA in the signature block on his emails...for a week or so
