We all know how talented he is, but can you really afford to keep him in an AFL team, knowing how inconsistent he is?

When things are going well, he's great to watch. When things aren't going so well and you need someone to lift, you can bet it won't be Stringer, he'll just drop sitters and avoid attacking contests.

What gives? Can he ever get back to his 2015 form?

He played in a winning grand final side, so I’d say yes.

Strange player to single out.
Lol, he was absolute garbage tonight, don't kid yourself.

He's been good this year. He's allowed to have one bad game.
You realize this has been the case for a while now? When he's playing well, he's awesome. When he's switched off, he's embarrassing and costs you in big games like this.

Stunk it up tonight but if I were a Essendon supported I’d be more concerned about the captain’s decision making than the x-factor player drifting in and out of games.

Played his first poor game of the year. Anyone questioning his form is a complete moron who either doesn't watch or understand football.

Nobody is questioning his good is great. His awful is probably some of the most costly you’ll ever get though. He wasn’t just quiet tonight, he was detrimental to the team almost every time he was involved

Had his shittiest game this year. He's actually captured some of his 2015 form where he's looking explosive off the mark and showing that core strength which made him almost unstoppable as a medium forward.

Closer to his 2016 form. He was something else in 2015

You have no idea wtf you’re talking about you simpleton.

Our entire side was deplorable tonight.

Jake has been one ofour hardest working and most aggressive best players from round one.

Get a clue and try to think of more interesting threads to conjure up in future.

For some reason still tucks his arms in and stands still when there's a ground ball to be won with an oppo player coming the other way.

Not good enough for a 192cm 92kg bloke.

Also doesn't crash packs.

It amuses me how much people heap on Stringer. He's a quality player and is having a good year. Yeah, sure he had a bad game, so what. He was very good last week in a disappointing loss vs the Cats or does that not count because it runs counter to the downhill skier argument. Anyone that plays as a forward is going to have down games.

Stringer at his current pace may get to 40 odd goals and is still spending time through the midfield as well.
