There seems to be a lot of up and coming young players making their first class debuts in the recent years (orders from CA?), and Pattison is the latest of the bunch.

Only 18 years old and already making his debut for Victoria (Surely the youngest debutant in years for the Vics?), and so far has taken 3/43 in his first innings of bowling.

Brother of England player Darren, he's played for the Australian U/19 side and seems to be taking a few wickets in the Premier Cricket league as well.

What are people's opnion on this guy?

I'm verrryyyyyy excited about him so far. Been a big far for him ever since i first found out that a 17 year old was on the rookie list. There is a big future for him in my opinion. I looked at James Hazlewood and thought...woah he's gonna be great, but now looking at James Pattison he's done even better with 3 for 43 in his first innings.

Very exciting prospect :thumbsu:

Very good player, played against him at school cricket a few years back , he killed us with 100 and 3 fa, will really go far

I would have seen a little bit of him at the under-19 world cup but I can't
remember much of it off the top of my head. How fast he is?

I think in the world cup he hit 145 and hes not really built as yet, could be lightning in few years time

This kid was impressive when I saw him in the recent CLT20 tournament, good pace, conventional and upright action, couldn't help but see some similarities with old Binga in the way he moves and bowls. He looks an exciting prospect in limited overs stuff at least, good to see him named in our ODI squad. What are the wraps on him around the place, is he seen as a potential test cricketer down the track?

I think he will defiantly play test cricket down the track, he is only 20. Took 6/42 in a ford ranger cup game against NSW last year. Not super fast but bowls in the 140s when he's up and going and is handy with the bat as well. Hasn't played that much at state level because of Vics having a heap of fast bowlers but has performed whenever hes been called up. His biggest problem is he is injury prone, broke his foot last year and has had back problems.

Disappointing for James, but good to see Hastings recognised for his fantastic season last summer - he's a perfect fit for One Day Cricket and should be first in line to replace Hopes in the team after the coming World Cup.

Looked, and was surprised to find there wasn't a thread on him. This guy is 20 years old, averages 27 in FC cricket (albeit after only 4 matches, but already has a 4 wicket innings in that time), 24 in List A with a 6 wicket haul in just 10 games. Took 2/42 from 12 overs against NSW today, after only recently returning from injury.

He has been rightfully selected for the ODI World Cup, and in my opinion is probably the best pace prospect in Australia at this point in time. Injuries permitting, he'll be in the Test team soon enough.

Yep definite gun, which doesn't always translate to international gun but you always hope it does.

I don't see enough of these young guys live and my focus is obviously more on NSW youngsters but it's good to see that we really do have some promising talent coming through all around the country to hopefully get Australia back where it should be in world cricket.

Besides, it'd be cool to have 'bowled Pattinson, caught Maddinson' on a scorecard at some point.

I was hoping to see Pattinson b Pattinson in the Ashes but oh well :)

Is a very good young bowler but like any young player hitting the higher levels they need to manage him and get his fitness base up so he can cope with the higher workload, very injury prone

This is the only thing that’s going to stop him. Has all the makings of a superstar.

He's been badly injury prone since he was a teenager and a serious concern he will always be so.

Got to see if he can hold his body together first, but he's only 20, give him a few years to get that core strength going before worrying about any test cricket.

One day cricket however he seems like a damn good bowler.

Looks to have the makings of a good OD bowler, there are two matches where I remember he has been very economical.
