Scrappy 30m clearances to Suckling, Birchall and Guerra (I'm pretty sure he's back) is definitely not the way to be competitive against Hawthorn.

We need to replace Zaka, and Winders is the only fit player capable of doing so IMO.

We were flogged in contested possessions and clearances, basically the Cats pressured the crap out of us which flowed on to other statistical imbalances such as i50s and oh I don't know - the scoreboard.

That's mental, not personnel.

Changes should be reasonably restrained, but I would be getting stuck into the group about a lack of application and drive.

Yes, I'd like to see some of our young brigade thrown to the wolves here, as I think excitement > nerves and we will see them have a red hot crack. One in starting as sub is probably not a bad idea.

If Hurley is fit he needs to come in. Gumby was servicable, but he desperately needs some additional tall support. A forward line of Hurley, Gumby and Crameri is pretty good on paper.

The mix we have clearly didn't work.

Replace one small forward with a tall to give us some height (against an undersized Hawks defense), dump Melksham for poor form and replace with a debutant midfielder with good form in the two's, dump NLM as sub and replace with a key back to combat the Hawks forwards.

Seems pretty good to me.

I know it is not a like for like situation but I agree.

There is no doubt that we are lacking grunt in the middle at the moment. It almost seems that TRB is of the view that Myers' presence in the stadium somehow assists our work in the middle. Rather than going back to Lonergan I'd like to see Myers ACTUALLY go into the centre square, and maybe even the same amount as Jobe, for once and get an extended run on the ball. It is why I am happy to stack the backline with all the dour defensive types because we have to ensure that there is absolutely no reason for Myers to play anywhere other than in the guts.

It isn't even abut Myers being poor as a defender. He has actually been taking overhead marks against opponents in the last few weeks and seems to be reading the ball in the air better than ever. It is, as always, about the balance. Lonergan came out for Myers and Myers is not in the middle. We are playing an inside midfielder short.

Sometimes I really wonder WTF is going with our coaches.

Forget about bringing in another tall, I'd be thinking pretty hard about dropping one.
Hale's down there a bit, and Schoenmakers' been down there for patches here & there, but outside Roughead their talls are nothing to worry about too much.
Recently, the Hawks' goals have come from Gunston, Lewis, Rioli, Breust, and Roughead (who we've always managed pretty well)

Gunston's the tricky match-up, he's not a bona-fide marking target, but IMHO he'll be too quick for Fletch, Carlisle or Hooker; and will probably out-do Hardingham if the ball hits the deck. Hibberd would be a good match-up.

Perhaps we drop Hooker or Carlisle, and run Pears on Gunston, Fletch on Hale/whoever. Would perhaps make some sense, but I doubt it - they'd back us in to play it on our terms, and make Gunston try and win the ball deeper; where Carlisle/Hooker would probably have it over him.

I'm working on the assumption that Franklin is available, however even if he is fit the Hawks need to show some balls and suspend him for his idiotic actions last week.

It's staggering how our coaches who are paid so much can be so incompetent at times. The same deal with not playing Ryder as our #1 ruck when he's available.

Ryder is far more adept as a forward than Hille or Bellchambers. If two or even three are best 22 you have to elect where to use them, and whilst I believe Ryder is the superior ruck I think it is the better decision to have him forward.

Have we played 4 quarters of footy this year on our terms? i dont think we have. We have great patches of footy that are unstoppable but its never a consistant 4 quarters of it. would love to see the damage we could do with a whole game of consistancy

Hille was ordinary last game but good before that and wont get dropped until Paddy comes back. Going to be a tough game against the flag faves Hawthorn, hopefully we can put in a better showing than we did against the Saints & Cats over the last few weeks.

Properly a better option to bring winderlich in and start him rather than start him as sub where he would most likely only get a quarter
