I suspect Kelly will be at North next year but we will have to give up Horne to get him.

Heres how I see it unfolding.

Kelly nominates North.

GWS threaten to match unless we trade them pick 1.

We agree.

Kelly comes to North as a FA giving GWS pick 10 to add to their 3 + 9.

We then trade 1 + 38 to GWS.

They send 9, 10 + future 1st to us.

We end up with 3 likely top 10 picks + Kelly. Also some key position types in Williams and Gibcus or small forward in Rachele could be available at around10.

GWS end up with 1,3 and add 38 which is handy for their points matching on Fahey who likely goes around the top 10.
They can keep him, we won't be trading pick one out. Clayton pretty much said so in his interview with Cal Twomey.

Ha ha, you know full well that's not an option (and no, R v Clarke 1927 has no bearing). The only way Josh goes PSD is if no RFA offer is made.

Such a simple thing to remember - it’s like that movie “50 first dates”

ROOS ‘VERY CONFIDENT’ OF NABBING STAR GIANT

North Melbourne is ‘very confident’ on acquiring Giants star Josh Kelly at season’s end, AFL journalist Damian Barrett reported on Triple M.

The silky midfielder is weighing up triggering an eight-year, $8 million option to remain at GWS until 2029, or entering free agency.

The Kangaroos previously tried to lure Kelly in 2017 before he signed his mega contract with the Giants. And Barrett believes they’re going to come hard again.

“North are starting to very confidently talk amongst themselves (about luring Kelly),” he said on Triple M’s Rush Hour with JB and Billy.

“They very confident three or four years ago when they thought they had him and didn’t get him.

SEN’s Sam Edmund said last week that he believes Kelly is “more likely to depart” GWS, naming Essendon and North Melbourne as two clubs who could accommodate for his huge salary.

Kelly is coming off a massive performance in the Giants’ draw last weekend against the Kangaroos, racking up a season-best 39 disposals and booting two goals.
He has averaged 25.7 disposals and booted 13 goals from 12 games in 2021.

If he comes to us as a free agent and they get pick 10 as you say...then why do we have to do a trade afterwards?? How can pick 10 be apart of a trade ..it's given to gws if he has left

We agree to a deal whereby GWS let Kelly go as a FA by not matching triggering compo (#10).

And we then trade our #1 to GWS in a pick swap that just so happens to include the pick 10 they got for Kelly.

That's not going to work mate. :D

They would have to swap 1 of their 2 existing 1st round picks which would look something like (picks 3 & 9 as it stands now):

a) Pick 1 2021 (Horne) & 2nd round 2022 pick to GWS for pick 3-5 (Sonsie/Sinn/Chesser/Roberts) & Kelly
b) Pick 1 2021 (Horne) to GWS for GWS for pick 9 (Callaghan/Draper/Johnson/Rachelle) & Kelly

So Barrett is saying that he is coming?

I guess he isn't then, damn...

These journalists genuinely have no idea of the conversations inside the club. Least of all Barrett.

They make up position , then report on the conversation surrounding the made up position.

Exactly TPA - guy is just building it up and hope we miss out on him.
Funniest comment in that article- is that he knows what ppl inside the club are talking about

Im suggesting 2 separate deals but both agreed to at the start.

1) They let Kelly go as a FA and get the compo (pick 10 as it stands this gives them 3,9,10).
2) We trade #1 + 38 to GWS for 9,10 and their future 1st (which once they lose Kelly is likely ~5-10)

The other possibility Tef = Damo. Not beyond the realms of possibility. Both seem to have a chip on their shoulder about the club. Both like to run down a club they profess to support. Both love to sink the slipper into the admin.
Oh, but Damo claims to continue holding his membership doesn't he?
