Moving forward, which player would you prefer in your side for 2012 and beyond?

For me, it's a no brainer and I would choose Judd. Thoughts?

Judd is a champion and looks to have 3 to 5 years left at the top level. His best is so far ahead of Bartels, and he does it so much more often, it has to be Judd for me.

It is a tough one. But what it really comes down too is how long can they stay at their peak. Judd's got another two years in my opinion before he moves out of the middle. Jimmy might be out as soon as next year.

Jimmy's a much better around the ground player than Judd, but Chris is a beast in the middle, and if he stays there another two years or so he would certainly be more valuable.

So it is Judd because I believe he will have a more consistent impact on games through the middle then Bartel in the future, but once he finishes in the middle and moves forward/half-back, then Bartel will have him covered.

Judd is a champion and looks to have 3 to 5 years left at the top level. His best is so far ahead of Bartels, and he does it so much more often, it has to be Judd for me.

Judd was just about the most dissapointing player of the finals; and Bartel just won a Norm Smith against some serious quality opposition.

Bartel shows up again and again, can play multiple roles and has shown himself to be a far more loyal character.

But most of all, I like Bartel. So he gets my vote.

I'd take the reigning Norm Smith medallist. More versatile than Judd, much better overhead (as he showed from CHF on GF day) able to play a shutdown role (as he showed in 2009 on GF day), kicks clutch goals when the game is in the balance and barely shaded by Judd in a classic on-ballers role. Judd has better hands and is better at evading opponents, Jimmy is harder at the contest and hasn't missed large amounts of game time over the years with recurring shoulder injuries. Bartel has also never eye-gouged anyone. I'm biased though

Definately Jimmy Bartel. Bartel can play anywhere has the best overhead mark out of any midfielder. He is more courageous than judd. Kicks more goals than Judd. Judd has a terrible overhead mark and goal sense. If i had to put my life on a player kicking a goal i would put it all on bartel more than anyone in the league. He is definately the most reliable goal kick in the league. Judd is terrible overated by the media and a lot of people including his peers get sucked in to saying how good he is because of what they hear in the media.

If I'm getting a player over the distance, Judd easily. As Judd's body starts to slow down, Bartel becomes a more viable option. If managed properly, I feel Judd will still have a better back half of a career, but Carlton really need to start looking after him as trashing him all season just means he'll come up short at the pointy end each year.

Like the draft, best available, Judd.

Judd very easily. I love Bartel and think he's a champion, but Judd is a better player and I'd expect more out of him in the next few years. At the end of their careers it will be a no contest in my view.

Judd at Collingwood would also have the added benefit of ripping the hearts out of 20,000 (or however many members Carlton have) blues members.

A midfield of: Judd, Swan, Pendlebury, Ball, Thomas wouldn't be too bad I guess.

If it's such a no brainer, why would you make the poll? Trying to make a Geelong player look bad after he just won the Norm and his third premiership? Jealous or just still bitter over that game in '09 ?

Unlike Judd, Bartel can still be very influential under a good tag. That doesn't excuse bad games though. Although I like Judd, he's had too many quiet games to be considered more consistent than Jimmy. Bartel hasn't had a bad game in almost a decade.

Jimmy is still at top level. During his best years in '07 and '08, he played mainly in the midfield. Nowadays, he plays all over the ground, mainly half-back. But I have no doubt, that Bartel could get another AA playing in the middle if he tried. He's also a handy tagger himself, and a better kick for goal.

Not saying Jimmy is a better player, but he was harshly judged. You're talking as if he's second rate, when he's one of our best players ever.

Jimmy signed a 5 year contract. Looking forward to many more years of this legend.

Yes. People on BF have been saying he is on the wane ever since he joined Carlton, and his body is almost shot. But he keeps on proving people wrong with great season after great season.

In a massive thread last week about the best player of the century you'll notice I was the only one to even mention Jimmy Bartel as one of the best (pre Grand Final - and that includes cats supporters)... but he's no Judd. Judd is on a different level and keeps going and going. Bartel is still a champion though - no doubt!

Yes. People on BF have been saying he is on the wane ever since he joined Carlton, and his body is almost shot. But he keeps on proving people wrong with great season after great season.

My feeling is his game has changed. He was a 25 goal a season midfielder at Westcoast who'd probably have 20 bounces a season. At Carlton he's a 14 goal a season midfielder who be lucky to have four bounces. Wane is perhaps not the right word. His inside work is better than ever, IMO he's hands down the best at feeding the ball out but he's definately a more limited player now then he was.

Both are excellent players. Every comparison is different and in this case Bartel currently is surrounded by better team mates which means he is not as exhausted at the end of the year. These aspects me makes it hard to get a gauge.

The difference is the team mates. At WC Judd was fantastic in the finals because he had better team mates. Bartel currently is surrounded by much better team mates

Bartel - more versitile, better mark, better kick. Always seems to stand up when the heat is on and kicks the clutch goals.

Judd 04-to mid 07, would probably get the nod...but since Judd lost that burst of explosive pace, he's fallen behind Bartel in a fair few areas. Doesn't really kick many goals anymore and doesn't play foward or back at the elite level - just midfield. Still a good player though.

Bartel comfortably those goals he kicked especially one from 50 got Geelong close enough, he is just a much more versatile player.

Bartel *just*. It's probably about equal really, both are outstanding players and integral to their sides imo.

If we took either of them we'd certainly overuse them and their bodies would get thrashed, much like I think Judd's will at Carlton (not that I blame them, he's an amazing player).

I think it's kinda obvious , particularly stat-wise, that Judd is a better player - One of the top 3 players in the entire league (alongside Ablett & Buddy) ... Nice troll

As mentioned earlier, Jimmy is 2x the player Hodge is....

But it's 50/50 in the poll at the moment. Obviously a lot of Geelong people think Bartel is better.

Bartel twice the player as Hodge? That's why Hodge has 1 more AA & 2 more B&Fs. They both have a Norm Smith now. Maybe Jimmy can win a B&F someday. And why bring up Hodge? This thread is about Judd & Bartel. Don't try and derail it. Stick to topic.

I think it's Judd>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bartel personally, but some of BF and nearly every Geelong supporter disagree it seems. They think Bartel is better than Judd, judging by this poll. Each to their own I suppose.
