Who's better? I think Simmo has just overtaken Stanton. His form in 09 and carrying onto 2010 has been fantastic. Stanton turns the ball over too much for me, Simmo does not.

Simpson (averages) in 09:

Disposals 21.3
Marks 5.6
Goals 0.6
Tackles 3.6

Stanton (averages) in 09:

Disposals 24.9
Marks 6.0
Goals 0.6
Tackles 3.8

Stanton easily, underated due to the odd shank. He often gets the main tag and still can perform as well as Simpson. Simpson is about 4 or 5 back in the carlton target list.

I was just about to come on here and make this poll, thanks jonoman:)

I'd take Stanton considering he copped the number 1 tag a lot last year.

Not that much between them though.

From the amount of bagging and abuse I hear stanton get off his own fans, this is easy! he wasn't great against the shockers, bad disposal & lacked heart. Dont get me wrong I have seen him play some terrific games!

Simmo is so loved at carlton!! he is a barometer for our performance & although he may be down the pecking order as our best player, he is definitely one of our most important!

It's true that Stanton often carries a tag, forgot about that. Still, i think the gap between the two players is very slim nowadays. Simmo has improved greatly whereas Stanton has stagnated.

Stanton's best is better than Simmo's but I think Simmo performs at his best more often than Stanton. So basically it's only consistency that is keeping them close.

Stanton just, but Simpson rapidly gaining. If Stanton could finish off his hard work more often, there would be no question. Often lets himself down going inside 50 or for goal.

I didn't rate Simpson at all 3 years ago. Has really benefited from getting 2-3 blokes to lead the midfield. Stanton is basically expected to do a lot more, and has troubles sometimes.

stanton has never stagnated, each year he improves on his game. Check the stats,

2008- 22 average disposals, 72 tackles over 22 games 5 brownlow votes
2009- 24.9 average disposals, 87 tackles over 23 games. 8 brownlow votes
2010 so far- 28.5 average disposals 10 tackles (so 5 a game improved again),

every year he improves in every area. People forget that he is only 23 years old.. He has a lot of improvement in him and i am confident he will improve as he goes on. He will get an AA or two before his career is out. A very good player who works tirelessly on his game

simpson is a very good footballer, but he hardly gets the attention stanton does from the opposition nor does he get the stats that stanton does, add to that the fact that he is 2 years older. Simpson however is improving rapidly and looks like he will only get better

However for me its a no brainer, stanton is the better footballer and has a lot of room for improvement.

People are underestimating how much of a handicap being the main tag target is. This thread is just like Vince vs Deledio if they have similar output but one plays on Ling, Kornes, Joseph, Jones etc week after week and still has comparable impact on the game then that player is better.

Stanton v Simpson is even more one sided as Stanton has more influence even while being tagged. Also Stantons inconsistancy at least in part comes from him sharing the tag with Watson, as well as a young midfield which are still learning to help them both get space. If Ling played on Simpson how much would it effect his output?

I think Stanton is ahead but not by that much. They are both prone to absolute shanks but Stanton gets it a bit more so he has that going for him. Simpson can break the lines though so it's up to personal opinion and what your team needs.

An accumulator or a line breaker? We have Carrazzo so probably wouldn't need Stanton right now...

Stanton.

Seems like the majority of neutral supporter have voted for Stanton. That tells you something.

^^^ what he said
what can i say the bloke knows what his talking about, i couldnt have summed it up any better

Stanton by a long way.

Simpson is the 4th or 5th mid and still doesn't impact games as much as he should.

Stanton gets alot of attention and still has a major impact.
