I've been super impressed with every game of Jordie's so far, and by looking at a comparison on footywire he's ahead in every stat.

I've been super impressed with every game of Jordie's so far, and by looking at a comparison on footywire he's ahead in every stat.

Of course he's ahead. Lucas had two games last year where he polled just the one possession, due to early hamstring tears.

Far too early to tell. Lucas' game against Richmond was probably his worst full game at AFL level but apparently he went back to the VFL and put in a near BOG performance. Gysberts has started his career very well and looks good in the clinches.

One's a flanker/outside midfielder with the ability to go forwards, the other one's purely an inside midfielder. I'm happy with Lucas as I'm sure Melbourne supporters are happy with Gysberts at this early stage. Be interesting to see how they develop over the coming seasons.

Too early to tell, but I'm staggered at Carlton supporters thinking Lucas is ahead of Gysberts by a 'long way'. I would suggest that they have never seen Gysberts play if that's the case. Should ammend poll to have non-Carlton/Melb supporters options seperate.

Having seen every one of Gysberts 4 games, and about 2-3 games from Lucas, I would suggest that Gysberts has shown more than Lucas at this very early juncture.

Also Blues4Flag - in Gysberts 3rd game he went off early in the second quarter with a back injury, making his averages all the more impressive.

I just don't see how you could say you would prefer Lucas by a long way when he really hasn't done anything to indicate that he miles in front of Gysberts. You're emotionally invested in the issue because it would appear that your club made the incorrect call on recruiting an injury prone player in McLean.

I'm not contending that Gysberts is a better player than Lucas either , it's simply too early to tell.

Also you're wrong there- Melbourne wanted Tapscott with pick 11 & Gyberts with 18, however Geelong were going to pickup Gysberts with pick 16 (or whatever pick they had in 09) so we jumped early. Luckily Tappy was still available at 18.

Besides where clubs rated players pre-draft has very little relevance once they are drafted. There are hundreds of examples of this.

Not sure why Blues supporters are being so one eyed on this one? Lucas looks like he will be a good footballer, and so does Gysberts. Time will tell which one is better, but for now stats clearly show that Gizz is better performed thus far.

I do remember however some very clueless posters that know nothing about the draft back in 09 stating Geelong were out for him....very much not the case.

They both have good footy brains and can accumulate a lot of the ball but that's where the similarities end. Lucas can dispose of the ball well, is a good, fast runner, good mark and tackler and those are all things Gysberts really struggles with. He's always been a better player right back to juniors and has been much more effective at AFL level so far as well.

No idea where you got many did accidentally put an 's' on the word poster to make it plural.

I acknowledge at least 1 poster said they thought Geelong wanted him, however he knows nothing about the draft.

Anywho, Lucas has to try and get a game where we have a abundance of mid fielders and flankers whereas at Melbourne Gysberts will regularly get games.

Dont worry, this thread will be subscripted to and will get a much needed bump in a year or 2.

Lucas's disposal average is 17 in games he wasn't injured.

Both look like they are going to develop into quality players in the future. But for mine, I'd take Gysberts over Lucas.
