Thats why the whole structure of the club is ridiculous.

The NMFC is very rich owning a license worth $17 million. However this is owned by a few rich shareholders.
It cries poor asking for handouts from the AFL etc.
It is propped up by members who in a lot of cases cant afford the cost of memberships.

A bit like going to Centrelink when you are a multimillionaire!

Agree.

And why would a financial saviour ever coming forward and pour money into the club and help the club, if it benefitted the few rich shareholders ?

The club should be given back to the members.

But this ain't ever going to happen.

The way I see it with footy being run today is the simple fact that Melbourne will be unable to sustain nine competitive clubs when compared against clubs that can draw from a vastly larger supporter base (and therefore money) due to their location in a one (Brisbane, Sydney Geelong) or two (WA and SA clubs) team city.

Unfortunately the Kangaroos are one of the clubs that are losing out from the uneven distribution of club memberships in the overcrowded Melbourne market. The board changed the club name and disasteriously attempted to relocate as a second Sydney club. Now, like other financially less well off AFL clubs, they will play anywhere that the board gets offered money - which is nothing but an insult to club and its supporters, lest its history.

Yet if this nomadic existence is left to progress, I fear the proud club of the Kangaroos will go the same way as Fitzroy or even the University team of old - a one-way merge deal to the benefit of another club or to become extinct all together.

I know this is hard for all die-hard and proud Roos supporters in Melbourne (some of the most passionate you'll ever come across), but for the club to still hold its own identity in 10 years time it will have to be playing more home games outside of Victoria than within it - and have those games in the same location. As we all know Canberra and Carrara the two most likely options - the Roos have worked hard and built a base in the ACT but the Gold Coast has better facilities, potential for larger memberships and more money from the cashed up, pokie driven Southport club.

I personally would prefer to see the Roos moving to Canberra (Makes sense, not too far from Melbourne compared to Qld to cater for the Melbourne members, plus why would the club turn its back upon years of hard work in converting League fans in the capital to AFL just so another club can reap it the benefits?)
In addition, I don't trust the ambitions of the Gold Coast move, let alone what a Kangas supporter must feel. You can almost already see Southport bidding for that AFL license... what are the odds that the club would then be changed in name to the Sharks?

Also the Gold Coast in general doesn't care about sport. It's just tourists and retirees... Not fans and supporters...
EVERY CLUB IN EVERY NATIONAL CODE FROM THE GOLD COAST HAS FAILED!

North Melbourne supporters... Kangaroos supporters don't let this happen to your club! Fight your future now, the club is at the crossroads of its existence... Uphold the Canberra bid!

Otherwise in ten years time... we could be watching the Sharks from the Gold Coast... or even the Bulldogs from North and West...

You sure you're not a North supporter :thumbsu:

I'm West Coast through and through but the last thing I want to see is aruably one of the best clubs of the past decade and all the history that goes along with it, being swept under the rug and forgotten about.

Also its the never ending double standards of the AFL... Collingwood and Essendon are allowed to get picky upon the specifics of "clash" jumpers that still look pretty much the same to me, whilst the likes of the Kangaroos and other less well off clubs are given the shaft to no end...

You can bet Eddie's CEO salary that Collingwood will play "away" games in Canberra (If Sydney decline, the Bulldogs will accept) if the Roos go to Carrara next year.

Interesting comment by Mike Sheahan on 3AW today. Mike said that North are looking for a way to play their 3 home games on the Gold Coast. The problem is that the offer from Southport is not for as many $ North expected. North are now talking to the AFL to see if they will make up the $.

Simple answer:

Southport want to see us poor and weak whislt they build up their own market, making an eventual takeover inevitable.

Knew this the minute they got involved.

AFL probably want the same.

Never forget 1896.

Never forget 1996.

We are out of our minds, if we get in bed with these bastards.

Quite happy to get off the drip by getting 11 home games in Melbourne on Friday nights.

That money is payed to us because of a slanted draw.

Go troll elsewhere.

Love it FlagMan. Blind Freddy knows that if/when we play up there, the push is on for permanent relocation. & Kangaroos are targetted because they will be "minimal disruption"
