Knee Jerk reaction to MCG access - out of control lines

Lines back to Jolimont to get into the stadium today for a crowd that’d be max 40,000 today. Would normally expect to walk into the members unopposed an hour before the game with a low crowd. Ridiculous situation. What is going to happen Easter Monday with 80k?

All gates in walked past were the same situation.

Huge overreaction. I'd think that in any game with 80,000 people, there'd be at least 10 people carrying a firearm who shouldn't be.

Also, there was no extra security measures, it was the exact same as always, just with 2 lines open instead of 6-8.

They have no choice now. The other night was a shock. Shouldn’t have been allowed to happen.

I'd be shocked if this was the first time that a gun was smuggled into the MCG, this wasn't a once-off security failing. The extra security theatre that everyone is going to have to put up with as a result of this is totally unnecessary.

Yes I agree other places are a problem too but the footy is entertainment that you buy a ticket to attend and it should be a safe space for all.

I suspect the MCC bought a system that doesn't work.

The report on the ABC site mentioned a statement by the security mob saying they set of the system but there was a failure to follow up correctly.

The remedy is retrain and / or add more staff members. The process should be exactly the same otherwise...if it works.

So scenario 1 is it doesn't work, but theyve blamed staff members. Scenario 2 is they are creating delays so people feel as though security has been tightened.

Both scenarios annoy the crap out of me, I take my boy to the footy. If it doesn't work, get one that does and sack the chump that took the kickback to buy it. If it does work why the theatrical crap?

I am a AFL member and gate 7 as usual closed, It’s not purely the AFL here but the MCC as well.

Um no….but apparently I heard the scanners picked them up as an anomaly and security did SFA. So yeah I would expect better security.
