Kreuzer getting drafted as a forward

I'm not bagging him (it does sound kinda negative on review, but I do rate him a top-5 prospect from pretty much any year) - but as others have said, exactly where will he fit in an AFL side (when his physical advantages aren't as prominant). He is allready on the elite side in terms of desperation/2nd/3rd efforts, so improvement will only come from experience/physical development.

I'm not really a draft-watcher, but this quote from a neutral observer pretty much sums up the debate for me.

When people analyse Kreuzer, they end up saying thinks like "I'm not trying to bag him, but now that you mention it, my review does sound a little negative". Even people who rate him top 5 see obvious flaws; not to mention that no-one seems convinced as to where he will actually play football.

His stand-out attributes as an AFL player seem to be stamina and second-effort. Does that make him essentially the rich mans Ian Prendergast? An undersized ruckman with average tap-work, who is a great athlete and has good second efforts, but never really finds a niche in the aFL. Really? We're going to pass up a player who seems to fit somewhere between Deledio and Judd, for the rich mans Ian Prendergast? I'm absolutely stunned by this...

I think Totino is the name on the whiteboard in that draft camp video. :D

Or maybe Greenwood.

Totino @ No. 46 for mine.
Hard working rover, good skills, good pace, and can go forward for a goal or two. Obvious choice I would have thought.

His DC results would prove otherwise btdg. He was measured at 199.5cm at DC, so he would only need to find another cm or 2, and he would certainly be at AFL ruck height. Also, his tap work is better than average.

I've been on both Cotchins and Kreuzers bandwagon all year, and still cannot decide which way I would go. One day it's Kreuzer, the next it's Cotchin.

Another way I am looking at this is to cast an eye over next years crop, and there are 4 elite mids in next years group - Daniel Rich and Tom Swift from WA, Hamish Hartlett from SA, and Nick Suban from VIC. These 4 will go top 10, and I reckon we'd be a chance of getting one of them.

The only top 10 ruckman for next year will be Naitanui, from WA, and he'll go top 3 for sure. And i'm hoping we're not going to be in the bottom 3 again next year.

There will always be elite mids in every draft, but elite 200cm talls don't come around all that often. Leuey did last year, and Kreuzer will this year.

This is where my thinking sits. As good as Cotchin is, is he so much better than who would be available next year.

Doesn't Kreuzer have a very large arm span?

Yes. He had the biggest at the draft camp

Matt Allan was only 199cm and barring injury could have been anything if his 99 season was anything to go by. Is Kruezer more mobile than the Aggot? If he is I think we will have very special player. I was a massive Allan fan but injuries stuffed hm.

Head and shoulders above big Matt and 5 times the intensity.

Trengove??

Trengove was 196cm at the champs this year, so he'd have to find a few more cm's to get to 200 of course.

I'm not sure what position Trengove would play at AFL level. Ruck would be questionable, even though he rucks for Calder. Could play CHB perhaps, Has the athletisim and mobility to play there. Haven't seen him play that role at Calder though.

How good are McKernan, Naitanui and Trengrove?

I feel we need a gun KPP more than we need a gun midfielder, but we won't finish low enough next year to get the best one.

Naitanui is a freak. He could dead set jump over the top of a phone box, and he'd probably have a red cape on as well. Still very very raw, but did some very nice things at this years champs. Took contested marks, and even competed with Kreuzer as that "5th mid" during the champs.

McKernan has played forward every time I have seen Calder, and can play. Imagine a Corey in his prime, and Shaun could get to that level. At 195cm, won't play in the ruck, but I could really see him play that roaming CHF role.

Trengove is an interesting one, as I haven't taken alot of notice of him this year, as he's not available until next year, but he can seriously play. As I have said, not so sure he could ruck at AFL level, unless he grows perhaps 4-5cm's, but i'd like to see what he can do at CHF and CHB. Pretty sure he won't be a top 10 selection, but will be there between 11-20 IMHO.

:D:D:D, now I'm worried.

I'm glad I have some kind of a reputation; I don't even have to make an appearance (until now) in this thread and I get a mention.

Funny how a country based no one can cause such a stir. I must be doing something right. Do people have anti Pafloyul discussions in private? What a waste of energy. I agree with you on this one though Gilly. Hampson has more going for him as a permanent forward than Kreuzer does.

Next stop rocket science :p.

Lobbe was 196/7 last year and measured 199 at DC.

I don't think we'll need another ruck in any case. ;)

Another midfielder would be great, but if we get the best KPP in the 2008 draft I'll soil myself.

I think we'll finish between twelth and ninth.

But next year will be about winning and not tanking. :thumbsu:

Hurley will be gone but Cornelius could be around.

Personally, I'd love to get Hamish Hartlett.

Daniel Rich will be out of our reach but he will be a superstar.

Fair dinkum some of the garbage being sprouted as fact around here and other message boards of late is astounding.

Why would Hughes draft an elite junior ruckman who is versatile for the purposes of turning him into our next CHF. He could very well pinch hit there but no one can tell me that they don't see a ruckman when they see Kreuzer.

I'd imagine that Kreuzer will split his time 50/50 early in his career ruck and forward with a view to easing him into a more full-time role when he matures.
