Recommitted Lachie Schultz [re-signed until 2023]

He is an unrestricted Free Agent and has yet to re-sign. Had a good year.

So what sort of compo would Freo get should the unthinkable happen. I am thinking a pick after Freo's second rounder.

We’d need to pay him 4-500k for that, doubt it very highly. More likely end of second or after your third

I imagine Andy Collins being involved at Box Hill with Mitchell is probably why we’re so interested. Would’ve given Mitchell the word on what sort of person he is, on top of how he plays.

He told a story on the Logue / Mundy podcast of playing reserves in the VFL and having multiple BOG but not getting selected for the senior side. Even when a small forward was injured he still didn’t get selected.

He thought the coach hated him, or had something against him, said something along the lines of “you, me, out the back of the shed, let’s sort this out”.

Could be. In his first year at Willie he played 5 senior games.

It’ll be Andy collins. Must’ve had a rocky start but he got drafted while playing for collins aswell. Collins has always pushed for his vfl players to be selected by afl clubs, so I’d imagine they’d have a fair good relationship.

Did not think he would get a game with the Frankston 3s when he first showed up but has proven to be a pretty bloody good player. Plays above his height. Good mark. Tenacious tackle machine and knows where the goals are.
Would be a small forward in almost every AFL side and I really hope the Dockers don't lose him.

Makes sense, unless Freo have some other recruits lined up the money put aside for Cerra might end up being used on retaining guys like Schultz on a bigger contact then originally planned.

I know we get some players in but we always seem to be running at a net negative and making dumb judgment calls

Given rookies can pretty mich play any game and only part of their salary is counted towards the cap, I think it was to balance the books for TPP's. I wouldn't look too much into it.

You really should only do that to players you think have reached their ceiling or it can bite you on the bum

One of the more underrated players around, combo of Freo + small forward + being "rookie listed" for list management reasons rather than being a spud.

Would have liked him at North.

Should stay at Freo but if Hawks get him for free I'd be thinking it's worth bumping his offer up 25-30k a year considering he'd be coming over as DFA - no trade cost, doesn't bump your own picks down with FA compo dilution.

Wasn't there a list squeeze as well due to AFL cutting squads?

I suppose if Freo had kept him on the main list and only had three picks at the Draft, they could have taken that pick at Round 3 in the Rookie Draft LOL - mind you, that also means Joel Western would probably at the Bulldogs.
