Went out with a few uni friends Sunday night to Lambys and pretty much the whole side was out. Otto, Chappy, the Johnsons, Mackie, Byrnesy, Hunt, Jimmy, Stokesy, Kel...just to name a few. Is it normal for a bunch of professional athletes to fly all the way from Brisbane after a game and get trashed as soon as they get back to Geelong??? I'm all for football players having a life and going out and such, but that does not seem like a suitable recovery from a 25 degree game, that was hard fought, not to mention the flight back. Mackie was climbing on the pool table, and we were challenging them to arm wrestles (one of my mates held his own against Otto, Mackie refused to take us on...he's tiny). Chappy was bloody strong. But my point is...is this a suitable recovery from a game.

Fine line between letting them celebrate and relax and taking it too far. Proof will be in the pudding on Sunday.
I guess though that if there are team bonding issues, as the rumour suggests, then maybe it's a good thing.
But if it's indicative of a culture in which they think they're celebrities, not footballers, and where one win is celebrated when the season's been a disaster, then no, it's not a good thing.
Guess it's hard to tell from afar.

Don't think it'd have something to do with them being hero worshipped and having people looking at them in awe?

If I could get naive people (i.e fans, publicans, bouncers) to do as I pleased, I'm sure I'd be out on the soup as soon as the siren went.

Many of those mentioned absolutely CRAVE attention, they are their biggest fans. Hunt, Kelly, Ling, Byrnes, S.Johnson and Mackie are can't get enough of themselves.

Sunday?

Meh. Doubt it would even affect them we have a 7 day break and they just got back from the Brissy trip.

Not like it was mid-week or anything.

I'm happy they were out together. No club believes that 20somethings get to bed at 10 pm - so long as they follow curfews and don't drive.

you should of just left it at this and minded your own business
Bullsh*t.

Given what has happened this season, it is certainly a fair issue to raise.

To tell you the truth they dont get hero worshipped when they are out. Most are just nice laid back kinds of guys, and the few that do play up get looked at like they are wa**ers. If they are good blokes we treat them that way, if they act like tossers we treat them like tossers. Im a massive Geelong fan and I get a little star struck, but as soon as it sinks in you know they are just normal guys. They are not going out for the attention because they dont get it. As for special deals, they pay the same price for drinks as us, I was asking Chappy about it, but they do get in for free. But hell, I got in for free too just for being a uni student.

And yes I do think it is a issue that should be raised, as they are professional sportsmen, and even when I was playing football at the junior level, after trips we would have a full recovery session with pool work and stuff like that, and we were told not to drink alcohol for at least 24 hours so our bodies could heel. These guys were flying from Brisbane. I was just talking to ex Sydney player Wade Chapman at the gym and he agreed, its not good for the body.

What is Chappy doing these days?

I always had a lot of respect for him - he would have grown into a star if not for injury. The proof of his quality as a character is that his career-ending injury was actually caused by a teammate in a training accident - but he never divulged who the player was because he didn't want them to carry guilt for something that was an innocent bump.

(sorry to take thread off-topic, but thought I'd take the chance to ask).

I think he's doing a building course with a few of the others guys in Geelong.

Chappy's such an awesome guy, he's always so nice.

I was talking to Schoey about his days at Port one time and he said that he never once played for a meal in Adelaide. He also said he was in a restaurant one day and Wangas came in with his entourage and the restaurant owner kicked some people from their tables so that Wangas and his people could sit there. The level of star worship over there must be a lot higher, because even Schoey admitted he was never a star and was surprised at the treatment he got.

They would realise they can't stop it though, i would struggle to name 2 players (I could name 1) i play with, who don't go out saturday after a game.

The real question, ripitup27, is what YOU were doing out on a Sunday night? Or is your course too light on to have Monday classes? I don't know, young people these days...

Ok I was wrong....let's get ASIO to develop a dossier on all the players and their private lives so that whenever we lose they can post their activities here so we can see if that is what is causing it. Afterall, the fans have a right to know everything they do, when they do it, and how often it is done.

Big brother is watching you mate.:thumbsd:

It is pretty light on. Just learning about sub editing. Easy stuff. Apparently you don't have to work much but you can still afford trips overseas and such. Know anything about that vikingcat. lol...

Sub-editing? Ha. Piece of cake. But make no mistake, if you're getting into this game for the money, for God's sake, switch to public relations and FAST!
;0)

See you next weekend!
