im pretty sure it happened in a collingwood game within the past few years.. player was tackled and he managed to get a drop kick away but was pinged for dropping the ball...winner!
dunno if it was ling but definitely a geelong player. i remember the commentators talking about whether the drop kick was still legal cause he was being tackled at the time. i think he either kicked or set up a goal with it, maybe not though.
Lloydy definately dropped it and heel poked it through. I thought these days it should be penalised as "incorrect disposal". But hey, it was Lloydy:

I would have said dropping the ball but you never see that get paid anymore.
Because there is no such rule as dropping the ball.
Thorold, as a winger, would have absolutely no reason for using a place kick. He was however a renowned exponent of the Stab Kick.Thorold Merritt used a place kick in the late 50's I believe
From memory Alistair Lynch in the goal square kicked one playing for Brisbane.
Rod Jaimeson did a legitimate drop kick in his last game for the crows when they were belted by the Roos. Last deliberate proper one i've seen.
Bruce Lindner did one at the SCG in the late 80's, now i'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but the ball went about 60 metres! Geoff Pryor from Essendon used to try them kicking out in the 70's, some ended up grubbers and others went for miles! It was a fantastic kick if you got onto it, but if you stuffed it up.....
Doc kicked it at Kardinia Park v Geelong in 1993 - to the delighted shock of commentator Peter McKenna.Yeah Doc Wheildon is the one that stands out to me.... not sure whether or not that was at Kardinia park? can somebody clarify it?
I'm sure there was a player who ran into an open goal a few years ago without any pressure and he did the old drop kick and the commentators were shocked haha.
I guess you could, but by the time they bring one out the umpire would've called play on! Could you imagine Ahmed Saad calling for a place kick?not a drop kick...a place kick. like a rugby kick for goal...it is legal in AFL. im just wondering if you can use a kicking T? (set shots)
