News Last year for Moons

To be frank, I was suprised that he even chose to go on this year. He looked like he was in so much trouble physically last year, that I was amazed when I heard he had another year's contract.

And from what he says in this article, it confirms that he was struggling with multiple problems last year. For his sake, I hope he can go out on a high this year, because I think his move back to the forward line was one of the things that really sparked Geelong's run on the premierships.

Definitely in his last season. Don't expect him to kick that many goals but hope he plays a mentoring role for the younger blokes and take the best defender off Hawkins.

Milburn could go on for another 10 years.

Really stating the obvious on what we already knew.

I just hope Moons body can get through the year and if it gets to a stage where he can't perform he does the right thing and steps down.

I still think if fit he can play a real role for us but we can't roll out guys half fit or hobbled this year, that's gotta be a non negotiable.
Just reinforces the critical nature of player management and having depth - very long season , the young guys get sore , the old guys get fatigued and performance suffers.

I hope he (continues) imparts his wisdom to the likes of Hawkins, Brown and even Podsiadly. No matter what non-Geelong supporters say, Moons has been a loyal and valuable club servant. His attack on the ball (and player) in 07 was legendary. He was one of the barometers

Just thinking out loud but perhaps Hawkins shouldn't be protected from the best defender this year, he's got to learn to take it at some point. Hopefully Moons imparts his wisdom as much off the field as on, I do love the guy but playing him all year for no reward is a little pointless IMHO.

Sorry to keep flogging the play the kids drum (I don't count the Tommahawk as a kid by the way, this year he has to be one of the big boys) I'm just really wary of wasting a year here.

can we sense another Alastair Lynch display in the grand final against Collingwood in his final match? Geelong v Collingwood grand final and it's Mooney's final match in league football:eek: You'd be brave to niggle with him on that day:thumbsu:

To be fair, he looked ok on the weekend. Moved pretty freely.

Like :thumbsu:.....If we are lucky enough for that too happen and everything to fall in to place, it would be surreal. And throw in dasher....bahahaha

Thought this was a bumped 2009 thread. Shame.

Just watching NAB cup final 2006 Geelong vs Adelaide (Foxtel's Chooseday footy), makes me appreciate what Mooney could do when firing. Absolutely dominated that last quarter, crashing packs, contested marks, 3 last quarter goals, and all against the previous year's AA fullback Rutten..

Was also great to see Egan playing again. :(

Mooney will become a 4 time Premiership player by the time his career is over..:thumbsu:;)
not sure he'll be playing anywhere next year after he retires

yes, I am a Mooney lover

He can stick the wisdom were the monkey stuck his peanuts it's the full on controlled aggression I'd like ( ok not so controlled at timed) to see him impart to the likes of Hawkins

Nothing wrong with the odd trip to the tribunal,
Most good big forwards pay the occasional visit.

A bit gratuitous VD. We know you have written off Geelong this year.

David, you seem to be getting defensive lately.

From what I can tell there a few here that although NOT writing the cats off, don't believe this is their year.

Nothing wrong in that surely? We aren't trying to be right (I don't think) it's just we are thinking longer term.

It's not easy to do as a supporter to be honest.

And as a club that is trying to think of the future AND win, it must be hell. I take my hat off to them if they pull it off.

I don't think Brian Cook's statement when Chris was appointed was any accident. He said something along the lines of Chris's appointment being as much to do with 2015 as 2011.

As for Moons, I think he is just being realistic. I hope he goes out with a bang and enjoys his new life as an assistant coach at GC in 2012.;)

Good to hear, because it was obvious in the finals last year he wasn't fit (one of several players we shouldn't have had out there at that time).

I just hope the body will not reduce him to a complete shadow of the player he was, and that if it does, he has the good sense not to go on through it.

Love Moons but certainly don't want to pick him if he's not up to it. If the body is, that's another matter.

Today I spent a day not doing uni homework, but instead watching 07 season highlights, 07 grand final, 08 highlights, 09 highlights and 09 grand final.

When Moons was on... he was on. I sometimes forget just how good he can be and I realise just how much those injuries he spoke about hampered him for the back part of 2010.

Lets hope Moons can finish off with another 20 games, 45 goals and a premiership medal.

a mate of mine works with someone who's close to moon's brother who said he was coming out to play one send off game this year and then retire.

needless to say i had a bit of a giggle and then went and watched him perform well in a practise match against carlton. you wonder how these sort of rumours get started. it's obviously not a big one given no one has heard about it. i'll just collect my $50 after he fronts up for his 2nd game in round 2. haha!

Moons seems to be an absolute realist, which is something I really like about him. Knows his role and station in the squad and knows it's not going to last forever. He's had a good run. Good to see we've got a player who can see the writing on the wall, because we're going to need a few more of them over the next two or three years.

Good on ya, Moons :thumbsu:
