Let's Get JONATHAN BROWN

CMON Eddie, go out and get him!

In saying that, i'm a massive believer that it is best to get your players in the draft! That is the best way, but I don't think any club will give away a top 3 pick this year no matter what we put up..... so in saying that..

Make Jonathan Brown a Magpie!

Eddie has never recruited a big fish like this, surely we have salary cap space...... I would think Didak would probably be our most expensive player and I would think he would be on no more than $450,000. (I dont know, its purely an estimate)

If we got Brown, this would solve alot of problems, the players would walk an inch taller with him on the field. I would almost give him the captaincy straight away as we have no real candidate if Burns retires. I promise you Travis Cloke, Thomas, Medhurst and Didak will be better players because of him.

P.S I'm against getting Cousins purely because his best football is definitely behind him........... you are kidding if you think its not!

What don't people get about cost to need??????

We have a good proven young foward in Cloke. We have potential young fowards with real talent.

We do not need a foward regardless of how good they are. Especially considering Brisbane will ask a packet for him, he hates collingwood and is injury prone.

In the mean time trading away draft picks and players to get a player who is not to our need and ignoring our p!ss poor midfield.

you must be genius

Its thinking like this that brings 1 premiership in 50 years!

"Eddie hasn't landed a big fish" you speak as if 2 or 3 big fish are up for grabs every year.

Tell me all the big fish that have been landed by clubs?

Jabso, I respect your comments.

Everyone knows whenever a big name player comes out of contract, the media always say the Magpies are after player X or player Y. It would be nice to land one for once.

I could go on and on about naming players being linked to Collingwood and going to other clubs but do I really have to? You should know what i'm talking about.

My opinion is it would be nice to see Jonathan Brown in Magpie colours wouldn't it?

Yes it would be good if you would, because, no actually, I don't know what people mean by big fish because when I think of it, there aren't many big fish being thrown around.

It would be good to get Brown. Of course it would. I'm just disputing the perception that we fail to land "big fish".

Alright, just from the top of my head over the years!

N Brown
B Hall
P Everitt
C Judd
J Brown

I could go on, all these players were once linked to the magpies. I think they are all big fish.

Regarding Everitt, this was when he was in his absolute prime in the early 00s.

We didn't chase Everitt hard enough that was our problem.

There was nothing more we could do with Judd, we just didn't have the picks.

J. Brown still plays for Brisbane.

Nathan Brown wanted money when we didn't have the cap space because we were in the grand final. Also in 2003 despite making the gf our list depth was crap and we had nothing to trade for him or Stevens.

It's not like everyone's grabbing marquee players and Collingwood are missing out.

Gehrig was one linked to Collingwood I can put down to pigheadedness.

I think our minds are also clouded by a lot of players that weren't big names and have become big names once being moved and also big names that didn't quite kick on. Woewodin was a big fish regardless of your feelings towards him. Had he gone on to have a pretty good career with a different club we'd be lamenting not landing him.

we want a big fish.. what do u think the chances of coaxing jimmy clement out of retirement would be? he would still be good enough imo.. i think he is only 31 and witha season off the repair his body would be in great nick? it sounds far fetched.. but we could take him virtually for nothing as he'd only play for our jumper.. just something out of left field..

p.s if anyone actually knows clement personally could u give him a ring and ask him to entertain the idea...

I don't know. JB is obviously one of the best, but let's remember, he is playing in a football side with a list equal to Collingwood's, a better midfield, a super coach and a very good supporting forward in Bradshaw, yet they still sit outside the top 4.

The media saying that X or Y are linked to Collingwood is a far different thing to X or Y actually being linked to Collingwood.
You can dismiss at least 50% of all such "links".
Next you can dismiss quite a few big names who simply have a bit of a chat with many clubs, Collingwood included, around the time their new contract is up for renewal to put a bit of spice in the negotiations.
That leaves possibly 25% of all players linked to Collingwood actually being considered by Collingwood. How many are actually made an offer? Who knows? How many would be considered "Big Fish" before or at the time of the offer?

We have only missed a few. Tony Lockett and.....well I really can't remember any others I'd call a "Big Fish" to be honest. The Ablett was never linked to Collingwood officially was he?

motv8, please stop posting that same cut/paste from the Herald-Sun in every thread, it doesn't add anything to the conversation.

The chances of Clement coming back are zero.

He didnt retire for football related reasons, but for family realted reasons, reasons which are still valid and persist to this day.

In my view we give J Brown a big air swing.

He isnt worth the risk of 5 years at his age. And I dont see him doing anything overly great for Brisbane at the minute.

Judd was the one we should have gone for at any cost. We chose not to because we were happy with our current list and wanted to keep it intact.

Shows we need some change in our admin.

The fish rots from the head.
