Damn we are lucky to be running into brisbane right now. the injuries to clarke and banfield have made this game soooo much easier. Clarke has been in ripper form and we have no match up for him (assuming McPharlin goes to Brown) and banfield is hugely underated and we have no match up for him either ha.

Without merret and adcock they are almsot as depleted as us. We should kill them, and even with our injury list being where it is im more confident with this game than any game so far this year. IMO Gold Coast will be a much more difficult task.

We will actually be overstocked for talls, especially for Subi.
If Sandi, Grover and Silvagni are fit, I'd drop 2 if not 3 of Johnson/Bradley/Clarke/Griffin. (Not Kep)
I'd love to see them drop Johnson and keep Clarke or Griffen, but it won't happen.

You need to press the refresh button kp junior. Johnson has been our best avenue to goal in the past 2 weeks.

Flying into Perth for the week so pretty excited to be able to go to the game, seeings I pay 400 odd bucks for membership and only get to go to 5 or 6 games a year.

Will be good to see Barlow running around subi again and hopefully Sandi.

Hope they make it worth the money Electric

Looking forward to Tendai having a day out. 3 games under his belt and a home ground with loads of space. Hope he gets time in the middle.

I think if we're playing Kep, Johnson Sandilands and Griffen (not to mention possibly Clarke), we run a huge risk of going in too tall and getting out run on Subi. So a tough selection decision or 3 needs to be made re the talls.

So has Johnson shown more than Kep, Griff and Clarke? I'm not sure he has, although he certainly has looked much better forward.

The fact that Barlow's second up after such a long lay off rules out Hayden and Silvagni IMO.

B - Duffield Grover Bucovaz
HB - Broughton McPharlin Ibbotson
C- Hill Barlow Fyfe
HF - Mayne Pavlich deBoer
F - Griffin Johnson Mzungu

R - Sandilands Palmer Lower

Int - Pearce vanBerlo Crowley

Sub - Bradley

Em - Hinkley

Hayden would have a more positive impact than Van Berlo who really struggles. Hayden has been training for a while and should be able to play 70-80% of the game.

Even though Brisbane are lacking height i'm still keep to give Clarke 1 more week with Griff & Sandi playing, he doesn't play the same role as Griff & Sandi and amongst a better 22 he should flourish. A few of the obvious fringe guys should make way for Sandi, Ballas & possibly Roger.

The seasons not over yet and theirs a long way to go so I'm hesistant about rushing Sandi back if he's not read, surely its better resting him against the Lions if he's not right.

Griffin deserves his spot regardless.

Is Pav fit to play?

ive heard rumours that he is 50/50. I have my doubts over the source though. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

All very intriguing this week - like the postive feel of the thread as we look forward to a slow-build up to September action with a nearly full strenth squad (well here's hoping at least!).

Worried about going into the game with too may underdone players and some who are suspect from last week. On that basis I would be reluctant to bring back both Hayden and Silvagni together, especially if Grover is not 100%. McPharlin is named at FB but will go wherever Brown ventures.

B: Duffield McPharlin Hayden

HB: Broughton Grover Ibbotson

C: Hill Barlow Fyfe

HF: Mayne Johnson De Boer

FF: Mzungu Bradley Walters

R: Griffin Lower Crowley

Interchange: Clarke, Hinkley, Pearce

Sub: Pitt

I would also be reluctant to bring Sandi back too soon and certainly believe another week will do him well as we push towards the bye. Turf Toe is a notorious injury for lingering if not managed properly in the NFL with similar (albeit much shorter) athletes 120kg +.

In terms of the forward line, I am assuming Walters is right to go as I believe he played in the All Stars curtain raiser to the state game last weekend. He played very well against Brisbane in Round one and I think Ballantyne is just too impottant to keep missing games through soft tissue injuries because he is coming back a fraction too soon - bring him back for the Gold Coast game at the earliest and ideally after the bye.

I think Walters and Mzungu feeding off Kepler who always provides a contest would be exciting and you have Clarke on the bench to go forward if we need him - just needs to hang onto those overhead marks - I think he has been very impressive in the last few weeks.

Pearce is a funny one - I like his attack on the ball and really believe he can impact a contest however he does seem to go missing at times and needs to improve his awareness - like any young player. Needs another run and can always go back if Hayden pulls up sore or needs a breather to be subbed off. Played some excellent games for Swans in the past in the back six.

Pitt impressed early with his foot skills and will be good for us in the future. In my opinion his skills are far better than JVB and Crichton though they are faster across the ground. Skills and turning the ball over recently have hurt us so expect this to be remedied through his inclusion even as a sub.

Surprised by calls to drop Johnson who I think has been very good for us in the past fortnight, strong hands and accurate goal kicking. Think he may well be very important venue for us to goal for the remainder of the season.

We also need to start sticking some tackles - but young players with skinny arms and too few pre-seasons in the weight room will always look bad at times. This is an area where we have really missed McPhee and Morabito (young boy in a mans body) and where Lower has impressed.

There we go guys, first time I have had the guts to post - be kind!!

Cheers

JD

Welcome to the board JD.

It was a terrible first up effort, far too many of them 'word' thingys. You would've been better off starting out with the following like the rest of us-

LOLZ!!!1!! :footy:

In all seriousness though, I think that team is pretty close to what we'll see named tomorrow afternoon. It's pretty unlikely that all the players undergoing tests this week will be available and even more unlikely that they'll all play. In other words, in reality the team I named a page back is no f'n chance of happening ;).

Just on Walters, I'm fairly sure he's in the naughty corner with Palmer. Sadly, I don't expect to see him anytime soon.

Nice team Johnny. I would have Palmer in the midfield for Clarke but that seems to be out of fashion at the moment. I like Walters and Hayden as ins very much.

Do people think Hinkley deserves another one? Didn't have the worst game on the weekend and was decent vs Essendon but he still looks panicky and can't handle the pressure. He's not first in line to be dropped at this stage but imo he's still just a WAFL grade player and won't be anything more.

I wonder about his shoulders sometimes. Would probably pick Pearce before Hinkley still, although we need runners in the team more than anything else.

I was at East Frematntle for Palmers last game. I know people want to see him included but I fail to see how bring in someone who appears to be incapable of excecuting even adequate kicking accuracy into the forwardline is going to help. If he's unable to do it at WAFL level then there is a big issue the imho. If you fail to hit targets moving into the forawrd line then you can very quickly have your press broken and be found out of position and exposed going the other way. This why hitting targets the majority of the time on the evolution into the fwd 50 is so important. The days of banging it on the boot and just getting fwd are coming to an end imo...it just plays into the hands of too many teams structures. I really think there is more value getting gametime into Pitt than playing Palmer at the moment.

I like that team too Johnny, especially Lower in the centre square and Walters in the forward pocket. Hayden would be a great in and I like the idea of Pitt coming back as the sub. Good stuff. Personally, i would probably play Palmer in the midfield, but I guess that is not going to happen.

That's fair enough Dockershark we didn't see the game we just saw the possessions. Sometimes stats can be misleading. I think EF are on the TV this week so we can all get a look at his disposal effectiveness.

This sort of selection policy is really pissing me off. Walters and Palmer are so much more damaging to oppoisition teams than guys like Mellington, Clarke, Crighton, Can Berlo, Hinkley etc.

It's just staggering that they can't get a game atm.

In fairness, Walters has been injured and suspended for all but about 2 weeks since he was dropped. Throw in a couple of weeks where SD have had a BYE and he hasn't exactly been banging the door down to get back into the side.

Good post, Johnny Docker, but I think you have forgotten Pavlich and I don't think your midfield is tall enough

B: Duffield McPharlin Hayden

HB: Broughton Grover Ibbotson

C: Hill Clarke Fyfe

HF: Mayne Johnson De Boer

FF: Mzungu Bradley Walters

R: Sandilands Griffin Pavlich

Interchange: Barlow, Hinkley, Pearce

Sub: Pitt

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

Why not throw Bradley and Johnson into the midfield rotations as well - play them off the wing. Maybe through a form of aerial tunnel ball we can knock the ball along above the opposition mids heads, all the way to the goal line.

FREMANTLE giant Aaron Sandilands will return to the field against Brisbane on Saturday night in Perth if he gets through simple drills at training today.
Harvey said quick goalkicking forward Hayden Ballantyne (hamstring) would be assessed today for a return either this weekend or against the Suns, while defenders Alex Silvagni (illness) and Roger Hayden (foot) would also be recalled for their first games this year

I'd rather have Balla take an extra week with that hamstring if there is any doubt whatsoever.
