Yorta Yorta elders curse Elliott to `rot and decay'

John Elliott's recent slur that Aborigines were a ``forgotten race" has incurred a traditional curse from two elders of the Yorta Yorta tribe.
``May you and your kind and all you own rot and decay," it says. ``May the winds of change sweep over you and put you below the feet of the people you despise."

The curse was placed by two sisters, Ms Margaret Wirrpunda, 60, and Ms Frances Mathyssen, 69, members of the Ulupna clan of the YortaYorta, who said ``we definitely mean that" and ``it will be carried out by the winds of change".

TWO Aboriginal women and an ancient curse are taking credit for the dramatic reversal in the fortunes of businessman John Elliott.

Yorta Yorta elder Frances Mathyssen and her sister Margaret Wirrpunda claim a curse they invoked against Mr Elliott after he offended their people four years ago is doing its work.

They claim Mr Elliott's plea for leniency before the Victorian Supreme Court last week on the grounds of poverty is further proof of the curse's effectiveness.

One of the original "cursers" , MW may have recently died in 2013.

Not holding out much hope - reading the article, not even a John Elliott apology would work, and I don't want to sweat on the old Prez leaving this mortal coil, as that is just wrong.

Googling Frances Mathyssen and MW, they are both highly respected Aboriginal women working hard to improve the lives of their people so please - lets keep the responses nice.

If we take this not as a literal curse but as a metaphor, Elliott's tenure at Carlton has a long tail, that IMO includes the presidency of Sayers.

We just drafted 2 gun kids and they've both done ACLs this year.
I think it's the literal curse that's the bigger problem than the dodgy dealings of a President we turfed out 23 years ago.
