I'll believe almost anything Cal says to be pretty spot given his record but I'll never believe any media figures on money for any player. That stuff is always horseshit and will do sneaky shit like say up to 1.4m a year when every other year is like 600k just to make a point. Freo reportedly are paying every second player they've brought in over 1m yet still have money to re-sign drafted players and target McDonald and Baker for this year.

It's always rubbish

The funniest so far is he'll sign a 1 year extension to take him to FA, he's just plowed 2mil+ into a house in Perth, no way he's risks a career ending injury and loosing the lot!
Nah, the funniest thing so far is the Tigers supporters who think he’s worth a top ten pick.

The only mention of money that carries any wait for me as it wasnt for click bait and he was put on the spot, is Cotch stating the money on offer for Bakes is too good to refuse or words to that effect. Given the latest news, you would have to assume that its from Freo.

Nah, the funniest this so far is that Tigers supporters think CCJ will be the topic of conversation at the trade table.

Good grief.

Dont make up shit to try and be cool. The CJ comments were counter arguments to our of contract players being traded for eff all.

Cool story though.

But whats too good to refuse? At the time 800k seems a lot for a Baker type IMO (even with price rises) and maybe the supposed new offer from Richmond is at 800k or more? It's just guesswork to suite our own agenda / preference.

The $ amounts are always rubbish IMO and completely biased from whoever reports it, the only thing you can bank or confirm is the years.

Literally no one has said he will be traded for eff all.

Making things up indeed.
Some of the suggestions of picks in the 20's to 30's is **** all for a player of his ability.

Of course you can pay him more. The bottom 4 clubs always have more room to pay the few good players they have. Who at Richmond will command top dollar going forward?

Filter out the older players heading for retirement like Martin, Prestia, Grimes, Lynch, Fyfe, Walters.

In a few years time Baker would be #2 on the Richmond list behind Bolton. None of your young players project to be better than him, except maybe Gibcus who has blown his knee out unfortunately.

At Freo he'd be around 8th at best (behind Darcy, Cox, Serong, Young, Brayshaw, Jackson, Amiss), and I would personally put him a bit further back behind Pearce (in current form), Clark, Ryan, Treacy and expect Johnson/Chapman to overtake him in a few years time. We'd also want to keep room to land a bigger fish like Warner.

We'd be bonkers to be paying our 8th (and maybe not even this high) best player more than Richmond would pay their 2nd best player.

If only it were that simple.

It could be likely, but that likelyhood might only be 55-60% across that 5 year period, so it's marginal
Just so many factors and variables
As I said as recent as last year, Freo finished below Richmond.

2025 I'd say Freo more likely, a bad injury run and a tough draw and Richmond get a good injury run and an easier draw and that could flip.

2026 and beyond, darts at a dartboard, it genuinely is not much more than that.

You think your predictions are accurate now, but history says no one can really predict accurately. It's not a problem with your predictions per se, it's that the game is unpredictable!

Not so I predicted West Coasts woes 3yrs before they happened ; over-rated where the list was at with a dumb top up trade , a big 4-5 year hole in the list through successive poor drafts and a list worn out and injury prone with a lot of poor long term contracts left over from a successful time at the top

Sound familiar

The Kelly trade was a good call at the time, eagles had the best list in the comp at the time and a team full of youngish A graders. Was very unfortunate that we had the injuries we did.

So you predicted it in 2018, the year we won a flag?

To be fair Fremantle supporters predict (hope?) our downfall every year. Most of the time they’re left bitterly disappointed. But even a clock is right twice a day, I guess.

Is that you feather's?😂

Still leaning towards him leaving gut feel, but Richmond have apparently tabled a good offer of 5-years and more money on top of what he is currently being paid which isn't peanuts, we don't often lose players that we want to keep.

Do you think that Richmond will win more games between 25-29 than Freo?

If not then it would be feasible that leaving to go to a team that is likely to win more games is a reality.

I congratulated you on the three flags. Did you miss that part?
Did you think Collingwood would win the Premiership in 2023 after finishing dead last in 2021 ?
I never thought we would win the flag in 2017 after finishing 13th in 2016 so who knows where any team will be in 5 years time.

Yes the three flags were fantastic hope freo get to experience that feeling soon as you can see at the bottom of my post
Richmond has given me so much joy

The general idea is that more mature teams are better and more competitive, so when a younger team is competitive and will get more competitive when they mature fully they will be better.

That's the general idea.
Port adelaide & Carlton have been young and are now mature
StKilda went through that in Lyon's previous Era
GC / GWS were young and have been mature

Thats no indication of success its the type and quality of elite players and role players that are morer important along with a game plan

Richmond had 4 guns and a bunch of soldiers with no names collected late in drafts and were just about unbeatable in 4-5 years

It was players with mind set and never give up attitudes like Liam Baker that were the back bone of the team with Dusty/Rance/Riewoldt/Cotchin the cream

Players that wont let the team down and wont accept defeat are whats required
Liam Baker is that player and thats why we do not want to lose him for even pick 10 as its just another kid that may or may not make it. What pick was Erasmus

I never said the departing player wouldn't have a say.
Of course they would like their old club to get a fair trade.

But the way you keep crapping on about Bakers loyalty, you're making it sound as if he's doing the deal and if he doesn't like it, he will stay.

If you believe that, you're in Laa Laa land.
You really dont get it do you

The players wishes would be well known to the club making the approach and they will know exactly what the expectations are before making an offer.

Now if the team making the offer are being assess and not getting it done and making the player wait until the last minute then Richmond will well and truly be trying to convince him to stay.

By questioning my post and saying im crapping on about Bakers loyaly very much indicates you really dont know the player you are posting about.

Do you believe Mundy or Walters would have just left under the same circumstances

You and others seem to move the goalposts a fair bit during this discussion.

I was confident Collingwood would bounce back up the table due to their list profile and younger players. I am not talking about the premiership, I have mentioned many times that I am talking about the number of wins this year and the next four.

Sure no one knows exactly what is going to happen. However, if I told you to put 50k on it, I doubt many would say Richmond are winning more games in the next four years.

Anyway, I like Baker as a player. I don't think he would be in our top ten players so I am not sure how to value him from a needs basis. I would assume the deal has been done barring something extraordinary this season.
