Coach Lions - Has the Fagan era already peaked?

BT?

Is that you ?

A team which won a final isnt as good as a team which failed to make the finals.
of course they are. a team can be playing much better football and be in much better form. So heading into the finals, Brisbane get spanked by 60 to melbourne, and Carlton lose (somehow) to Collingwood, a flag fancy. I know which team is more dangerous out of those 2 teams. I have no reason to like Carlton but they would've been much more dangerous in finals than Freo, Dogs, Brisbane, Richmond, and probably even Melbourne.

And in the actual finals Brisbane beat Melbourne. And Richmond.

And Freo beat the Dogs.

You know Carlton would be better based on their extensive Finals performances over the 8 or 10 years ?

Because it cant be based on their H / A performances.

Yeah, they're soooo much better than a team that made it to a Semi-Final...being that they didn't even make the eight
Nuffie logic 101!
did you watch the game last night. Every team in the top 8 does better than that. And probably 4 or 5 teams outside of the 8 would've done better.

Your logic doesn't account for form. that's what happens when you get blinded by the results of the games and not how they won. If you looked closer you would've seen that they beat Richmond on a contentious goal review as well as the massive advantage of home ground assistance. The following week, melbourne couldn't hit the backside of a barn with their goal kicking and was on the rough end of the stick with the umpiring. Melbourne also had 10 players go in for scans during the week. They were banged up. People chose to ignore the way that they won their games in the finals and shouldn't be surprised at the result vs Geel.

finals experience means nothing. Melbourne went from hardly any finals experience to winning the flag last year. If curnow doesn't kick 17 behinds in round 23 and kicks just 1 of those goals. they beat Collingwood, make finals. And potentially beat Collingwood first week of finals. The season is one great big sliding door.

Doubling down...interesting hahaha

Spot on.

You’re either ready to contend for a flag or you’re not. There’s only ever a few genuine contenders in any given finals series - the rest are making up the numbers.

How’s all that finals experience benefiting the Lions currently? They’re arguably going backwards.

You get a seat at the table, the rest is down to how your squad mentality navigates the finals series.

He’s 33 and clearly doesn’t want to retire…

He’s probably been told he’s not getting a new deal and asked if he was thinking about retiring - packed the sads - and then said he wants to tell the boys himself (that he is getting delisted) and probably got told it’s not the time….and packed the sads again…

They didn't, the umpires decided they were to win those two games, and therefore it happened. They lose both games under fair umpiring.

Imagine unironically believing this.

You don't need to imagine it, it's fact, and I wanted both Richmond and Melbourne to lose those games but if you think Brisbane deserved to win either of them or broke any finals hoodoo, they did not.

Using your brilliant logic, the AFL made sure we got through to the prelim just so we could get destroyed.

No. If Scott didn’t show he could tweek their game style and have a dominant year, then maybe.

But he has as a coach and not only that, absolutely destroyed his opponent in a prelim to make a GF.

Brisbane have been playing the same type of footy for 4 years and have been smashed a few times now in finals and out in straight sets with home ground advantage previously.

Fagan admitted he was reluctant to make the change pushed by his assistant in getting Berry onto Oliver at half time. That move won them the game. Again, Fagan was lost.

He needs to go.
Here come the Swans
If cats lose next week
Time for Scott and danger to go

I think it's pretty evident that the midfield needs a different look. If we get Dunkley, with Ashcroft coming in and Robertson potentially stepping into a bigger role, you have the pieces along with Neale to transform the midfield into a tougher, more defensively minded midfield than we've seen over the past few years. Allows McCluggage to play more outside which suits his skill set more.

Will be interesting to see how Fages and Bruce manage the transition. It's not every day that you make a preliminary final, and then have the opportunity to bring in the clear no. 1 pick and a good midfielder that could not fit a need better.

Oh wow you actually believe it.

Thought you were just joking around, tongue in cheek. But you're dead serious...

Umpire whinging is tiresome at the best of times but coping on behalf of other clubs is pretty special.

Interesting year for us. Don't think we've peaked but clearly need to make some changes to avoid just being one of those teams that makes a bunch of prelims and doesn't achieve much else. Think Fagan needs to change up the staff around him rather than moving on himself.

Backwards- by winning 2 cut throat finals against last years premiers and a team ‘no one will want to play in the finals’. Much prefer to be a bunch of pea hearted chokers who think they are better than they are.

What a surprise to see Dean and Danster in here bagging the lions, the two posters who have done nothing but cry, bitch and whinge since the mighty lions knocked them out of the finals. Give it up you bitter sooks it’s sad.

Nothing to do with age.

He was a dickhead at 39
A dickhead at 49
