** Ages are as of Today.

1 x 30 year old
Majority of the list under 25.

I feel this is the last year we invest in the draft. We are perfectly positioned to trade aggressively next year and the year after for established talent as well as attacking free agency.

If we identify 2-3 talented players and can fit them under the cap, i will make a bold prediction. Top 2-3 in 2016.

As much as we have been knocked for going backwards at a rate of knots, our window was 2010-2012. We made 2 Grand Finals and won 1.

Our window closed for 2 years while still challenging for finals and i firmly believe that it swings back open. 2016-2021 will be a large period where the window remains wide open with the list that's been put together. I'm really starting to buy into the clubs direction although i had my doubts initially back in 2012/13.

Side by Side

There's some real talent there at 22yo and under. With any luck Pendles will be raising another Cup above his head before careers end as the veteran gun leading a pack of young stars.

Hmmm, the only time I've seen Dane Swan out in front

Jeez there are a lot of ordinary players over 22

Take out Beams Daisy Shaw O'Brien a fit Swan and our older players are very average with the exception of Pendles/Cloke
Yeah that's my worry going into the next few seasons. It's exciting to see the young names on that list; however teams really rely on experienced level headed players to really stand up when it's close to get games across the line, not just age either I guess.

On that list over 24 I see Pendles, Cloke maybe but no one else IMO.

Teams need match winners and whilst I see potential in a few years, I feel our immediate future will be tough.

There is a fundamental issue with free agency stock ups. Look at what Carlton are paying Thomas and Adelaide Betts. You use up your cap very quickly. There is no point unless you are close to flag in taking any free agent on vey large money. Of course is an opportunity presents with a player that really wants to come to us and for a reasonable price by all means go for it. Then there is always the opportunity too good to refuse (eg a Dangerfield) but by and large I'd rather trade for 23/24 year olds and hit the FA market when we are a year or two off a flag. Right now we don't even know if we have enough talent to build into a premiership side. It will take 2 years before we can even tell if we have had a couple of good drafts in the last 2 years. We haven't even seen our 2 early picks from last year and people are slotting them into best 22s.

We have a very young (and talented) list. I think that the 'experienced' guys this includes Swan, were as great a part of the problem in the club underperforming. I think we may well improve next year, I wouldn't be too surprized but we go in with low expectations.

By what round do you think we can start putting our guns into post season surgery without arousing suspicion. I'm think anytime after round ten providing we don't over do it. Personally if I was running the show I'd tell Pendlebury, Cloke and Reid to have the year off to do the grand tour. Cloke in particular would benfit immensely from that experience imo.

Thanks for the thread and age perspective UI.:thumbsu:

It hardly screams out premiership any time soon.

The hope is in our youth and a few A graders.

Seriously makes me wonder more than ever why we didn't fully commit to rebuilding (2012 onwards) based on youth and not on the back of recruiting 2nd/ 3rd tier players from other clubs.

Sadly yet to see a player recruited from an opposition side in the last 4 years make any real impact on the field. Adams and Greenwood will hopefully be the exceptions based on us actually giving up something for their respective worth/ services.

A Dayne Beams type would be good ;)

Looking at that it is a big year for Fasolo and Thomas. They need to stay fit and take a few steps next year
Its impossible to get a Dayne beams type unless we find someone who is homesick, got a father that's ill,he tells his manager that he will only come to collingwood, and he tells Collingwood that all they need to risk is a third round draft pick.

2012 was a compromised draft, there wasn't any benefit in trying to begin a rebuild that year outside of the first round, and we took 3 selections in that first round so......

I am probably 1 of the most optimistic posters ever but i worry about our top end end talent.

To me it is Pendles, Cloke, Reid, Sidey, Elliott and possibly Tooves and Brown. Marley an honourable mention.

I am sure i have missed somebody and possibly overrated others. (I know a lot of posters don't rate Brown).

Our youth looks good but we need senior players to assist them

Really only Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Cloke (even though he had a bad season) can be called top end talent these day. Reid would be but disqualifies himself on account of injuries.

With the exception of freeman/shazza and this years picks as we havnt seen them yet.mim really starting to worry about our youth, apart from potentially Elliot, I'm not sure if any of them can become elite players of the comp.

Not saying they're bad, I like broomhead, Kennedy etc. But I'm not sure they're A to A+ players

Way to ruin the vibe of a positive thread.

Taylor Adams, Brody Grundy, Jamie Elliott, Seedsman(Yep I went there), Freeman and Shazbang could all become A graders in my opinion. Couple that with a few others I'm very happy with that may never make A graders but will be solid enough to enjoy watching like Marley, Langdon, Witts (could make an A grader if things fall into place), Broomhead and BenKen. I also really like Frost but I wont throw him into the deep end yet. Then add a little Moore sugar with pick 5 this year, and I can't help but get excited. I don't see the point in worrying about it, we can't change it. Just hope for the best and hold on for a bumpy ride the ride of your life! I don't care if in two or three years time I look stupid for thinking they could make it, at least I will have enjoyed the hype :thumbsu:.

A lot of good young talent on that list. The lack of experience is a worry but our hands are tied and that's the hand we've been dealt.
My main concern is Buckley and whether he has the ability to get the best out of this playing group. Don't get me wrong, I'm backing him and I believe in the direction he's taking us but one of my main concerns is how will he get those young guys to lift, especially if some start to stagnate. Will he able to get the best out of a Grundy or inspire a Broomhead if they start to drop off?

I was reading about a Yank who plays college ball in the states, he stated one of the beliefs that the coaching staff have there is that if you are not improving you are going backwards, because even if you are standing still there are others who will overtake you.

We need some of the 21-24yr olds to elevate their games to new levels.

Adams, Fasolo, Elliott, Williams, Thomas, Sinclair, Seedsman are names I want to see take the next step.
Sinclair. For me he should've been delisted instead of moving back. Not up to senior standard.
Fasolo the same. Should never have been moved back. Delist.
Elliott. I like.
Seedsman. Final season to show something. Must get more of the ball.
Williams. Unsure. Looks ok needs to find a role.
Thomas. Must become of our 5 best mids. One to watch but bring it consistently.

So in saying that.

Elliott makes it.

Williams and Thomas must step up.

Seedsman jury is out.

Fasolo and Sinclair should've been delisted. List cloggers.

So was last year and I'm hopeful we may have struck gold with Langdon and Marsh at picks 65 and 77 respectfully.
