jolly has the tools to be a very good player i think. 184cm and athletic from what ive heard. not unusual for a 19 yr old to not yet have it all together. it will be between us and the crows and would likely be psd/ rookie option.

i hope we add him to our roster but do think that sumner would be our priority.

if we maneuver this correctly we could re-invigorate the back end of our list very nicely in one draft, i reckon this is the best access to some young ready players i can remember.

sumner/ marshall/ jolly/ tom lee / leigh osbourne/ raikawasa

as psd/ very late draft/ rookie would be a huge upgrade on the spuds we have mostly been filling the back end of our list with lately. more importantly as depth picks they also have the possibility to go on to be something more.

Has Batsanis done enough this year to get back on an AFL list?

Does the 'delisted free agent' thing apply to players who have been delisted in previous years like Sumner? Definitely hope we look at him too.

I'm almost certain it only refers to player's delisted this year. The club needs to agree to the delisting. Jolly and Jurrah should fit this criteria. Sumner would need to go through the draft.

I like the idea of re-building the back half of our list over the next 2 years, with astute Sydney-like recycled experiments. If guys like Jolly are an upgrade (both younger and more talented) on the likes of Logan, Thomas et al., then go for it.

Everything I've read and heard about Jolly has been that his attitude stinks and he doesnt work hard enough.

Not sure we need another underachieving primadonna

Sumner should already be on the list. Same with Raikiwasa and Gray.

Instead we chose to keep guys like Hitchcock who break down 5 mins into an AFL game, Salter who is 24/25 and can't defend and Banner who we have no intention of giving a game to. Nice.

I like Jacobs and want him to stay but if young interstate recruits like Boak, Young, O'Shea, Pittard, Butcher, Moore and Trengove can all buy into Port's future direction why can't he?

He probably made the mistake of reading Bigfooty

Wonder if it's a case of bad homesickness or concern about playing in a poor football environment. Given TSW's comments about the impact of a new coach, it may be the latter.

Jacobs is a pretty intelligent kid. He probably realised that when Primus and Rohde were selling him pictures of the promised land in our near future, that they were not the two guys you would put too much faith in.

What does Jacobs want? does he want us to just trade him to a melbourne club for 3rd round pick so he can go home and start playing to his potential. He has only been here 2 years he needs to stay a couple more and prove himself. He know GWS and GC have the first 2 picks in the pre seaeson draft doesnt he.thats his only choice if he doesnt stay.

If I had a son being drafted into AFL footy, I wouldn't want them learning their trade with us.

We can't develop players to their potential. It's definitely not just this board that has noticed that.

Maybe Jacobs is worried he'll be the next Salopek. I'd suggest he's definitely aware that developing into an elite player at Port Adelaide post 2004 would put him in a very exclusive club.

I think this is where a new coach will influence alot of people's perceptions of our ability to develop young recruits.

Butcher will have serious doubts about signing his next contract (at least his father will) if he's unable to make progress next year, either due to injury, body conditioning or form.

First I ever remember hearing about kids having problems with being drafted to Port, was when Will Schofield expressed his and his family's relief about being picked up by the Eagles and not us. In recent years, the problem has gotten progressively worse.

I think 90% of the problem is not being able to condition our youngsters physically without jeopardising their physical health. Clearly this is a Falloon issue.

Then there is the issue of lack of coaches (at least in 2011), lack of quality in the coaching box (2012) and lack of intensity on the training track.

The right coach + 1 more quality, strong-minded assistant + a new fitness guy can turn all of that around in one season.

Hasnt stopped Broadbent or Boak. If he wants to be elite he could do it at Port as good as anywhere. And thats not the point. The point is there is a draft and we used a high pick on him so if he leaves he is shafting us unless someone foolishly gives us a first rounder for him. The disrespect people have for port is really pissing me off. I would chew my arm off to be involved with port so should Jacobs. Players should want to play for us coaches should want to coach us. At the end of the day the players can make the club great again if they just stay and work on it. Leaving is soft and doesnt help anyone except the melbourne clubs.

PJ Power, did you forget Nick Stevens breaking into tears in 1997 when he got drafted by us?

I also remember greatly how The Age(?) wrote a big article about how cruel it was that Matthew Bate might end up having to leave his home town. Boo hoooooo

In 2006, Mitch Thorp tried hard to indicate a lack of interest in coming to Port.

Also the endless post-draft camp interviews where players said they were scared of Choco. I think Billy Morrison was one of those.

Pls note how these are not good players I'm listing outside of Stevens. Players afraid of going interstate are not going to be good players because it indicates that they're not committed enough to their dream.

Forgot that Nick Stevens ever played for us, tbh. ;)

I think the reasons for not wanting to come to Port may have been a little different pre-2005 - largely to do with Choco's projected persona. Now the lack of love for us is far more humiliating.

Jacobs won't get to a Melbourne club without a trade being involved, and his case should be as black-and-white as it gets in terms of fair exchange.

He was a projected top 20 pick in the 2010 draft. We took him at 16 and he's played 24-25 games, with some decent ones especially in 2012. He hasn't undone his pre-draft reputation IMO, so his exchange value should be between pick 15-20. That sort of a draft pick would be ok. The alternative is to target a young South Australian from the 2009-2010 drafts who's played some decent footy but wants out of his current club.

Would Greenwood be adequate compensation for Jacobs? Probably not, IMO.

We don't need to target a young South Australian, young anyones are fine. History shows this.
