For the first time, I'd be happy to sign up ROB. He's been great this season. The marking is the big improvement. The fact McAndrew has impressed enough to be signed up for a further two years is a relief.

NWM would be a great get, but if he's unavailable and we keep our picks, I'd be looking for some marking forward talent in the draft. Not necessarily 200cm plus, if that is available, that's a bonus, but anything from a Jamie Elliott type through to a Riley Thilthorpe type to develop on the list. A marking forward to assist Thilthorpe and Fogarty in the air in the future is a need IMO.

Draper probably goes past Berry and Crouch at some point soonish and Soligo, Rankine, Dawson, Peatling are solid locks - with Rachele and Curtin possible high level pinch hitters also. Plenty of midfield talent, with the expectation Draper progresses with time. Of course, if someone the calibre of Dyson Sharp is gettable, go for it.

Edit: If Tex is retiring, Jamie Elliott himself could be worth a try as a free agent pick up. Not sure he'd leave Collingwood though.

McAndrew seems a good extension. It would of been better if we had a glimpse of him at AFL level first but that just hasn't been possible.

He is more the Strachan replacement so I don’t think it gives any clues on the ROB/Draper situation.

Our "interest" in recruiting Draper is perhaps a ruse to make re-signing ROB more palatable to the fan base
I like your thinking.

Supporters ' ROB sucks, we need anyone else that can remotely ruck to replace him'
club ' we are seriously considering signing Draper from Essendon'
Supporters 'Sign up ROB pleeaaassseeeeee...whatever happens we DON'T want Draper'

viola.....fans swallow keeping ROB

I think the casual Crows fan who has only seen Sam Draper's goal of the year and similar highlights would love us to get him

As per the other thread, this is the current out of contract list at seasons end.

Not sure if he will make it long term but it seems likely Taylor would get an extension.

Contracted until end of 2025
Reilly O'Brien
Kieran Strachan (inactive list)
Zac Taylor
Harry Schoenberg(R)
Lachlan Murphy
Matthew Crouch
Karl Gallagher (R, Cat B)
Brodie Smith
Taylor Walker
Hugh Bond
Chris Burgess(R)

Another "Nasiah has told people close to him that..." report.

Either the journos are making sh*t up, or Nasiah needs to find some more trustworthy mates.

I don't think they make it up, there would be some truth even to Caro's story. It's just the definition of someone close to them is fairly broad and people talking to NWM hear what they want to hear.

I am sure he 100% knows where he wants to go. He is young, I doubt you let all this drag out unless you were leaving.

I think the 3 teams are all still in play. If I was him and his management I'd be trying to get the most blood out of the stone as humanly possible.

This is his career payday, and he has 3 teams desperate for relevance on the hook. Get paid young man!

The latest "rumour" on the Saints board is he has already agree to stay but his manager is extracting the maximum amount from the Saints.

I feel like I'm the only one who thinks draper wouldn't be a bad pick up as a 2nd ruck who plays forward most. He looked really solid in the fwd line before his injury and could take Texs spot and play 2nd ruck so riley can stay forward.

A - He's garbage
B - We're not signing him to be a 2nd ruck, we'd be signing him as ROB's replacement as 1st ruck

I think our number 1 ruck would need to be more mobile for that to work.

Draper as a forward works if he's splitting about half his time in the ruck

He’s absolute garbage.
I disagree with this...

Here's a comparison of ROB, Draper & the $1.7million man TDK stats from 2024:

He's no AA Ruckman, but
Is he better than what we have? Maybe.
Does he offer more than what we have? Yes.
Could he be better with a better team around him? Probably.
Is he worth what we are probably going to pay him? No.
