Love ya Tex, but this is your last year. Enjoy it and hope we can send you off with something special. It’s time to start planning for life after footy and hand it off to the next generation.
It's disappointing we keep having senior players who don't want to give it up and keep having these acrimonious splits with guys because they keep wanting to squeeze a year or two past when they should.

Yes a few more games early on and he wouldn’t be pushing for next year to get the 300
Or maybe he never would have gotten his shit together, and would have been back playing football in Broken Hill at 22.

History is littered with talented country footballers who never learnt what was required at the top level. Tex ended up being an absolute professional.

Is there anyone or Carlton's list worth having a crack at if they do go into full blown firesale mode. (TBH i kinda hope Port win tomorrow to really kick that into gear).
Honestly it's Carlton who should be offering a deal for Matt Crouch, they need him to take pressure of Cripps.

No surprise their workhorse Kennedy left and all of a sudden that Carlton midfield is beyond average.

Seems to me like alot would have to go right for Crouch to be on an AFL.list year. Two years ago there wasn't alot of interest. He now is coming back from a fairly serious injury which he may never 100% get over and the game has got quicker.

We'll give him another year.

Yeah I think so, assuming no suitors which is likely, we'd sign him on a 200-250k one year as a depth break glass option, would be the best depth player going around, can help the younger guys in the sanfl, still good enough for afl anyway

only reason you don't is if you think one of Charlie Edwards, Zac Taylor, Sid Draper are ready to go in a finals team setting - doubt Nicksy and Co belive that (as a full time midfielder)

So Crouch to get another year

I don't mind it.

A Scott Thompson style 2017.

We do not do "depth break glass options" with Nicks, we would put Crouch in the middle and put Peatling back on a HFF with 5 CBAs. There is nothing about the way Nicks picks teams that allows fans any faith at all he will build a squad and it has been in our DNA for over a generation.

We picked Murphy over Draper last match and had Brodie Smith in the side, that's how we roll with break glass

Got his shit together immediately after Craig left what shock 😃

It'll be great for the developing mids to watch Crouch and Murphy running the midfield whilst standing at half forward. Just need someone to take Laird's backline spot and we can then run all 3 through the SANFL midfield all game.

Interesting read...

Across the past month, Chayce Jones has found a new-home within the on-ball brigade, while talented youngster Charlie Edwards has evolved from a dynamic on-baller to classy defender.

Wright explained the importance of being adaptable, and why he is so keen to have his players experience playing different positions.

“When you change things around you’ve got to get buy-in from the players, and they’ve done that really well,” Wright said.

“A big part of it is us trying to give guys multiple avenues into the AFL team, so if they can play a couple of different roles it really helps their cause.

“Chayce has been one of our top three players the last few games since going into the midfield, for him to continue to develop and play multiple roles puts him in good stead.

“Charlie is one who last year developed into one of the best midfielders in the SANFL competition, so we know what he can do there, and we wanted to have a look and see what he could do in defence, and he’s really risen to that challenge which is great.

“We are all about giving guys opportunities to get the best out of themselves, and positional switches are a big part of that.”

I don't mind giving the young guys versatility, but lets give them opportunities at the highest level when they show they can do it.

Weird world where we finally work out how to play Jones in the midfield about 7 years too late.
Wright is now hands on in charge of the SANFL program not Godden....might have a bit to do with it.

Burgess maybe?

The best depth payer going around? If we let him go, no one else.would pick him up which tells you everything you need to know.

The run home and finals will be the telling factor. I think we will look slow against the real good teams when it counts which won't help his cause.

That and at least two of Tex, Smith and Crouch will go.

We gave him a chance early on did we not?
Very early on and then shunted him elsewhere without revisiting it once he gained experience and size. I’d like to see what he could do in the middle before we shunted him but finding a spot now that Berry is there will be difficult. Reckon he’d be an excellent tagger.
