Well it's been announced and it's coming this year, so might as well get the thread for the no doubt 2010 GOTY contender.

Officially confirmed by Sony and set for a late (our Summer) 2010 release as well as the very first trailer.

LBP2 will be more streamlined, feature filled and fantastic than the first. Everything from LBP is coming over to LBP2 as well, including DLC and EVERY created level. Not to mention will cover a ton of genres, not just platforming. And I for one can't wait to get those late nights playing going again with caMo, Kerrby and whoever else wants to get in on this amazing game.

Published by: Sony Computer Entertainment.
Developed by: Media Molecule.
Release Date: November 18, 2010.
Genre: Platformer. Platform for games.
Online/Multiplayer: Yes. 4 Player online and offline.
PlayStation Move Compatibility: Yes.
3D Compatibility: Unconfirmed.

LBP2 OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED FOR SUMMER 2010!
I’m pleased to share some exciting news involving our crafty, stitched-together character we all know and love – that’s right, I’m talking about the one and only Sackboy. Today, we are officially announcing that our cloth friend and all of his fellow Sack-people will be back for a completely new adventure in LittleBigPlanet 2, which will be released later this year for PS3!

LittleBigPlanet has always empowered users to create their own levels by utilizing the same tools as the development team. Now in LittleBigPlanet 2, we’ve upped the ante, giving players the ability to not only make better levels, but completely new games – think top-down racing games, multiplayer shooters, flying side-scrollers, RPGs, etc. The possibilities are really endless.

LBP2 will also have a loads of new features, including revamped graphics, a fresh storyline, added accessories and equipment for Sackboy, and much, much more – trust me I’m only scratching the surface here!

LBP2 FEATURE LIST (Much more at source, plus screens)
- Hand-Made Arcade: A super-tribute level to tons of arcade classics. Embraces the hand-made art from the first game. Pixels made of cardboard and wood.

- Designer Organic: Eco-architecture comes together around a designed and controlled version of nature. Described as “art noveau”. The closest to nature Sackboy gets in this game. Elaborate designs comprised of plants.

- There is an all-new level creator and it is not just a tool to create platform games.

- As examples, the game 100% encourages the player to create game types and wants you to make a shooter, a racer, puzzle games, Space Invaders clones, even RPGs

- A player can even customize a HUD. The example given is a health bar for a fighting game.

- All DLC from LBP1 transfers over to LBP2. Including downloaded content packs, costumes, etc.

- A Media Molecule developer has created a fully-functioning Command & Conquer Clone

IGN: LBP2 FIRST LOOK
First up, Media Molecule promises all those existing user-created levels will work seamlessly with LittleBigPlanet 2. Which begs the question, what's it got up its sleeve to make us hand over the cash a second time? Unfortunately, the answer's not particularly succinct, unless you're happy to settle for, "A lot". You see, to really understand Media Molecule's ridiculously grand ambitions for its follow-up, you kind of have to start from the inside and work your way out.

Too similar, will not buy.

Doubt it'll be a serious GotY contender either if the first one barely won anything. Based on the trailer, not enough new features to warrent full price.

ROFL.

..hm, now that I check, it seems to have actually won quite a few. But that means nothing, I still won't buy it because I wasn't a fan.

when i read the info on ign earlier i simply couldn't get over how awesome it sounded/looked!

hopefully they have alot more levels like the mgs level pack released christmas '08?? they were incredibly fun

this is now my most anticipated game for sure.

LBP2 co-op ftw!

Making those racing, space invaders etc. from the trailer looks awesome. Will definitely consider it.

LBP2 co-op ftw!

Same here. The new additions look very impressive.

The first one was the most fun I've had with offline multiplayer for a long time. :thumbsu:

Something would have to seriously go wrong for it to not be a big chance for GOTY.
GT5 could potentially be hard to beat though (if it comes out).

GotY will be hard to win with the new Mario and possibly Zelda games coming out.

not to mention with mass effect 2 being such a freak show critically.
god of war 3 was amazing but if it wins any it won't be many.

from the small amount that was shown in the trailer i really think this could give it a solid shake though.
the first is easily entrenched in my top 5 gaming experiences and the nice new revealed touches already could catapult this one to even greater heights from the looks of it.

the grappling hook is sick!

I didn't really feel all the hype about LBP, it wasn't a bad game but there are a lot of games before it on my top list.
LBP 2 will more than likely get a run on my ps3 but i dont have huge expectations for it, hopefully it can last a bit longer in my collection than the first one did.

I want to get this. the problem being that I still play LBP a lot and get heaps of fun out of it. will LBP2 provide me with more joy than the original does?

Pretty much everything from LBP will be retained (bar LBP's story). You can transfer ALL DLC and every single online created level will be moved to LBP2 and get a visual upgrade via the improved engine fixes. On top of that is an insane amount of improvements, new gadgets and the possibility of even more endless types of levels.

So if you love LBP, you're gonna love LBP2. GUARANTEED!

wow

the hardcore level creators are going to go absolutely ballistic with this!

it'll be interesting to see what they've done with the campaign with so many extra tools at their disposal (considering in the first every campaign level was made with the creation tools we were also given)

i personally hope the campaign is along the same lines as the first though with mainly just the same platforming/physics based levels with a few of the crazy different looking ones to finish off a world after a big boss or something.

I haven't watched those vids so I don't know what you're referring to. But Summer 2010 in America is our Winter...ie now.

MM have said they will change up the worlds a bit more than in LBP. They'll go through all different genres too, stuff like racing, shooting and 2D fighting.

Few new details have arrived.

Release date announced.

Pre-order offers announced too, not sure what we'll get, but I'll put all the goodies and hopefully we get the best of it all:D.

The announcement that there will be a collector's edition. Only US announced so far, but again, hopefully we get it as I would 100% get it as it's an absolutely cracking collector's edition. 7" plush Sackboy to go with my other epic one:cool:, LBP Game(book)ends, 11 costumes and 5 LBP2 avatars.:thumbsu:

Oh man, I'm really digging the box art. I hated it at first but it's grown on me and it looks quite good. I also like the costumes you get in the collectors editions, the avatars could be better though.

Day 1 purchase for me. We should do three player again Hutch.

Hopefully we get the limited edition over here. If i ordered it from the US I'm guessing the codes for the DLC would only work with a US account? That would be a waste, already have trophies spread across 2 accounts don't need a 3rd.

Supposeably the bookends are made out of cardboard.
Would have preferred wood. Still a must buy for me though!
It's an LBP joke. You see all properties in the LBP universe have to be cardboard, wool or paper because that's the universe (almost like Toy Story type universe only without the real people). It'll look like cardboard but be a proper sturdy make.

DEFINITELY!:D

Yeah in the comments they said that the US version would only work with US Store so in turn that only works on the US account (I tried with the GoW Costume pack prior to it coming out here, no dice).

We'll get something announced and I'm desperately hoping it's the same.
