J Phelan of the AFL site is doing a 30 days to the draft... (That Long??) Top 30 in no particular order other than alphabetical...

Just to recap we have 27 and 41 as our two main picks and then a pretty empty rookie list.

so here's the first Adams, Taylor

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/123399/default.aspx

My thoughts from the highlights: Good evasive skills, shoots quick handballs ala Sloane and tackles like a machine:thumbsu:. Fairly strong looking already and brushed off the lighter bodies, but would struggle to do so in SANFL or other state leagues. Knows how to find it in and under and positions himself well at stoppages. Probably wouldn't look at casue imo we have this area pretty well covered. Apparently likened to Jimmy Bartel.

Name: Taylor Adams (No 17 in highlights)
Club:
Geelong Falcons, Victoria
Date of birth:
20/09/93
Height:
179cm
Weight:
80kg
Draft range:
8-18

NAB AFL Draft Combine:
Adams showed off his impressive endurance with a 15.1 beep test and a 10:39 in the 3km time trial. His 20m sprint time was a touch over three seconds, which shows he has some speed to go with his big tank.

Jason Phelan says:
Adams is a classy midfielder who also has a hard edge to his game that has seen him likened to Geelong's Jimmy Bartel. He averaged 28 possessions per match with the Falcons this year with 10 of those contested. He is a strong tackler who is tough to shake loose once he latches on. He disposes of the ball well by hand in traffic and is an elite kick off his right boot. Adams has strong leadership credentials. He was one of many Falcons to have a quiet game against Oakleigh in the last round of the TAC Cup, but he maintained a strong voice despite the lopsided nature of the contest that ended with a 130-point margin.

Kevin Sheahan says:
Averaged 18.8 disposals and four tackles at NAB AFL U18 Championships. Exceptional leader, is clean and strong around contest. U18 All-Australian. From St Joseph's FC.

In his own words:
"I'm a hard in-and-under midfielder that is good around contests. I can also play outside and am a consistent kick off my left and right foot."

Any chance of us picking up Leon Davis in PSD. Not sure we could match his nominated salary, but him, Stiffy and Luke Brown off the HB line could be really effective.

Heard he wants to go home to WA to be closer to his kids. Don't like our chances, but hey no hurt in asking.;)

Although the height of players back then was smaller then they are now which wouldn't play to his advantage.

Day 2 JP Top 30

At this range not even worth considering, but maybe one to watch for in SC or DT. Would think GWS bound.

Name: Matthew Buntine
Club:
Dandenong Stingrays, Victoria
Date of birth:
19/10/93
Height:
189cm
Weight:
84kg
Draft range:
3-7

NAB AFL Draft Combine:
Buntine was restricted by injury at the combine and didn't participate in any endurance testing or the agility drill. However, he tested well in the vertical leaps and posted a time of 2.98s in the 20m sprint.

Jason Phelan says:
Buntine is half-back flanker who is the best reader of the play in the draft. He won't go No.1, but at least one AFL recruiter believes he is worthy of that lofty consideration. His decision-making and creativity coming from the back half will be an asset to whichever club calls his name in November. He is very good overhead for his height. He played on likely No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton late in the TAC Cup season, impressing his coach with his ability to play in front of the 197cm monster and curb his influence despite the height difference. Shin splints meant he had a slow start to the year, but the silver lining there was that he spent his recovery time in the gym where he developed the core strength to acquit himself well in the AFL very quickly.

Kevin Sheahan says:
AIS-AFL Academy member who won the Ben Mitchell Medal. Injury curtailed his impact at the U18 championships, but he impressed against Vic Metro. Good size, strong overhead, has a good game feel and uses the ball well.

In his own words:
I'm a defensive half-back that can play on both talls and smalls. I also have rebounding ability.

Fremantle have delisted Casey Sibosado and for memory, we had promised to pick him but someone fell in the draft who we took instead and then Freo grabbed him. I wonder whether we will looking at using a rookie pick on him?

I doubt it very much. That was 3 years ago now.. a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.

Sibosado really hasn't come on as expected though. I'd be surprised.

Would rather get Bollenhagen, who sounds a bit similar to Byron Sumner. 19 y.o. South Adelaide boy, nice left foot kick, but never really settled over there. He changed WAFL clubs earlier this year due to not getting enough opportunity.

If Freo has delisted him after three years you would think he's not going to be worth the while. Three years to show something should be enough you would think.

For memory, he was quite raw at the time and was going to take a few years to develop. He will only be 22 come next year so it's not too late to have a crack at him (if they still believe he can be the player that they thought he would be a couple of years ago). Also, wasn't he drafted in 09 meaning he has only been on their list for two seasons, not three?

Yes, but being raw also means you need to improve a shitload to just catch up. This happened with Armstrong, and only just. Sibsado is nowhere near it at the moment.

True, but being a KP player, wouldn't that buy him a little extra time? Well I guess it hasn't since his been delisted but more so for another team to look at him.

Apologies if this has already been covered. In todays Inside Football: Guide to the 2011 draft there is a quote from Sturt FC Footy Manager, Dwayne Massey stating that "there's been some interest from the Crows" in regards to Tim McIntyre.
