Doc has told the old man to drink low carb beer, but like me he is at a loss at what a good one is. Obviously there is Pure Blonde, but we both have never liked the taste.

The question to all you bigfooty beer gods is what low carb beer is the best? Surely there has to be one good one?

Cheers,
Rizzo

Hahn Super Dry is the nicest ive had...was a bit over fizzy though. Labatts isnt bad either.

Low carb beer is all awful...and what's so bad about a few carbohydrates anyway? No one food group makes you fat, excess of food relative to energy needs does. People are fat cause they sit on their bum all day and eat way too much food, not cause they eat bread.

What sort of dr was this?

Instead of drinking four low-carb beers (~1700 kJ), drink one full strength, quality beer (~500 kJ). Your dad's tastebuds and waistline will thank you. But, personally, I think Boags Classic Blonde is the best of a very bad bunch.

I've been outta the country 8 months now, is Cascade Green still available? That one was clearly the best I'd had. And has anyone tried the Platinum Blondes? I left just before they hit the market.

Not sure the reasoning behind it, may have to ask the old man, but it wasn't because he is fat.

^His Dad might be elderly (or older), and realistically speaking, the necessary energy expenditure relative to food intake might just not be plausible for a number of health-related reasons. In which case, lowering the amount of carbs you have is of utmost importance. For a younger person such as one of us, I'd say your last sentence would hold more value.

Anyway, if you can alter your diet in a minor way (it's just changing the type of beer for ****sakes), in addition to getting exercise, then why not? You will have a much greater benefit.

Health in an older person vs not altering the type of alcohol you take in - I know which one I'd choose each and every day of the week.

Toohey's White Stag.

Yeah, the first 0.00000000000000000000000001s it's great, after that it's just water. Think of a Tooheys Extra Dry, but the taste dissapers as soon as it hits your tongue (not kidding)

Cascade Light I think your refering too, yeah not bad, but I don't think it's specifically one of the low carb beers, yes it does contain less alcohol so will be better for you, definitely one of the better ones to go in this very very unmanly market

But for my money, go swan white, it's got -3000kJ per can, that's right, negative kJ!!! becuase once you drink it, you will throw up whatever was in your stomach:D

Great post PK. The old man is kicking on in years and his exercise has gone down a little bit. Although he still rides a bike 20kms once a week.

I haven't had a chance to ask him why yet, although I think there are a few factors that come into it, but at 6ft 4 and 95kgs he isn't a fat oaf.

Cascade Green seems the best option, I have had that before when I first saw it at DM and didn't even realise it was low carb. Thanks for the suggestion YOTR!

I drank pure blonde one night at the pub (don't ask me why). I had about 5 pints and woke up with the WORST hangover ever the next day. Some dodgy chemicals go into that crap.

Cascade Green is the only one I would go out of my way to buy. Most of them are drinkable, but just incredibly bland. Cascade is the only one with proper flavour and it's a quality beer even without the low-carb tag.

Cool story bro.

Why carbs? Why not cut down proteins or fats? Why is lowering carbs of the utmost importance? I'd say that eating a balanced diet, with 40 per cent carb, 40 per cent protein and 20 per cent fat or thereabputs it much more important than cutting carbs, which is just going to get the body into to ketotic state. Welcome to health!

This has become my drink of choice.
Contrary to the earlier posts I love this stuff, & its taste.
When I did the tour of Boags, they claimed this had a lot less kjs than Pure Blonde. To be honest I haven't checked as it's not the reason I buy it.
After the tour they have taste tests & I liked this best of all, & have been buying it ever since. The other thing I have discovered is that I wake up best after a night on this better than other beer. Go figure.

I have tried all of the others mentioned so far & prefer this for taste. I guess some beers just agree with certain people, & I have had years of practice (perhaps this has diluted my taste buds). Best buy for the slab is generally $40.00.

Hope you old man likes it as much as I do.......... especially after having a good one on the punt Rizzo. :thumbsu:

Carlton Dry or Hahn Super Dry, The others have a weird taste to them, Michalob Ultra is alright as well, but Definatly hit the Carlton Dry

If your dad is into Light beer, Haagen Light is probably the best Light Beer around
Definitly echo this post. Personally think Carlton Dry is a great beer-drink it very regularly, or did before i went on a self imposed alcohol hiatus.

Carlton Dry, Cascade Green and Hahn Super Dry. Boag's Classic Blonde isn't bad either.

Pure Blonde is the most overrated beer ever.

Carlton dry certainly goes alright, especially as it was pretty cheap for a while and still pretty drinkable.

Pure blonde I accidently ended up with on tap in a dodgy Mandurah pub because they had ran out of the beer that I actually wanted. Truly horrible. Luckily I wasnt paying for it
