This thing started yonks ago. I as worried then, that the post season event might provide some embarrassing behaviour.

To the credit of past and present players thing have been handled pretty well and provided quite a few laughs.

There are definitely a lot more people trying to influence, and others who like to be talked about, going around, and the media numbers must have quadrupled since MM began, not to mention podcasters who need something to talk about.

Its a pity but we move on. Its not going to get any less loud.

Mitch Brown getting death threats is real abandon hope in humanity territory. WTF man

It’s on the club to let us know. We deserve too

No the club doesn't need to let anyone know the specifics of that as it would be throwing individuals under the bus and we've really got no need to know either

Better for all involved for the issues to be kept in house & behind closed doors, rather than creating further unnecessary noise

Agree to disagree on this one - I think the club needs to be more open with us members.

I disagree. I think that just invites a much stickier and nastier entanglement with anyone who has an axe to grind (no matter how obscure) with a particular costume... particularly given that one of the costumes was relevant to probably the most divisive, angry, and controversial topic on planet Earth at the moment.

IMO it's very context-dependent. Pretty obviously if you dressed up as Kim, it's in parody. But Kneecap is a fairly obscure reference and a very political topic/statement.
The context was Irish footballers dressing up as... Irish musicians. Can we please get a grip?

Wasn't Blicavs the tall member of the trio - or is he adopted Irish 😉

Imagine these costumes in 2008. Wouldn’t hear a word out of anyone
Funny enough, the biggest pants-pisser appears to be the Very Very Unwoke Kane Cornes.

Honestly, I don't think this is about social sensitivities so much as it is the 24/7 footy media that has created a storm out of a very very genteel breeze.

It's about their stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the suppression of free speech. It's not exactly akin to dressing as U2 or the Cranberries.

Who chooses whether something is parody or not. They may have done it as parody. You dont know that.

Also dress up does not mean you endorse everything about the people you are dressing up as regardless of whether its parody or not. They may of just cared about the music. They may have just done it cos like with most costumes, they thought they could look like them. Its not an endorsement and therefore perfectly fine.

They are all Irish bands that have had a political stance against oppression, whether it be English/Irish or Israel/Palestine.

Yes, the Irish guys liked them before the political thing came out. With no overt display like a flag or a spoken quip, it really is just people assigning their own biases to someone else.

The footy media get a bit antsy during this period too. The season is over, but trade period hasn't started, and they still have so much time to fill. They also don't want people tuning into anything else like the NRL. Gotta talk about something.

Part of being an Aussie especially overseas is the ability to have a good laugh at yourself..
not being too serious.. but serious when it matters..

FML if that seems to be changing.

NGL I don’t get all hubbub..

Or maybe it’s just the talk poppy thing again

Go Catters

It really does look like we've become the most hated club. Some of our players, and the coach, have done some stupid things, but, really ... do the likes of Caroline Wilson and Kane Cornes ever look in the mirror?

I don’t think any of the targets of the humour have complained though. It’s just corporate risk aversion

It’s all just content.

The journos have a lot of airtime and column space to fill in an extremely competitive industry. Those who have the strongest opinions are going to cut through more. Kane Cornes, who I don’t actually mind, has made an entire career out of his strong opinions.

Public sentiment against Geelong has probably been at its highest ever level this year. The third party audit, the constant references to Cotton On and farms, the anger at getting Bailey Smith ‘on the cheap’, ongoing references to Stengle’s incident last year and fury that the club won’t suspend or publicly criticise players - despite that being completely at odds with the philosophy Scott has had for 15 years here.

This will only get worse if we challenge again next year, let alone having strengthened our list.

The club just needs to block out the external noise and focus on what it needs to.
