Catters!
folks,

As per usual for a Monday we look forward to the next round. Just wondering if the Cats have ever played at Manuka Oval before? From memory i don't believe we have. It's always a very brave man who tips a team who has never played somewhere before.

I think this will be a major disadvantage for us. Hopefully the boys will be able to have a run on the oval to get used to it. The Roos' have quite quite used to it now and actually play it pretty well up there.

I just hope its above 10c degrees. Don't want any hammy's to go ping! ;)

We played there once before (loss)
Also a pre season game (loss)

The place gives me the fear.
This is exactly the sort of game we could lose.

Longbomb is correct we played a game there in 2004 and preseason 2005. Both losses. I'm hoping that this weekend I get to see them beat those bastards.

Above 10C? Yeah I wish, more like -10C mate.

Round 17 2003

Kangaroos 16.8.104 d Geelong 12.14.86 (Manuka Oval)

IIRC, that's the game we played in the awful "blue on blue" guernsey.

That was a shocker of a guernsey - it was H's third match and he had played every one in a different jumper.

I was there that day and it was bloody freezing. Umps didn't help one bit either, giving a (and maybe a second) goal to North after a goal had been kicked, so effectively 12 point goals.

Manuka should hold no fear.

Similar temperatures to Geelong, however usually drier.

Similar dimensions to KP - long and narrow.

IIRC, we lost to North when we were travelling quite poorly in the first encounter. Then in the pre-season game the conditions were absolutely appalling and we played the conditions very, very badly.

That was also the game Wojcinski marked the ball in the goal square and the umpire said it hit the ground first when it clearly didn't. Arghh.. I hate umpires, do we ever get more free kicks in a game?

I'll be there, we should win, but it is a very wide open ground so it will be good for our runners andwith the day the way it will be should be some good marking. 12C is the warmest it has been all winter.

You guys really should win with so much to play for. The key is to get off to a good start and then you should go on with it. The danger is if you let us get some confidence in our last game in Canberra and actually allow us to start running.

Simple way to beat us. Flood and run forward in droves when we turn the ball over in our forward line. We don't get back hard enough and you will have a field day. Allow us to play direct footy and it will probably bite you on the bum.

I hope that you guys make the eight. I think that you are a team that can be competitive from a lower spot in the eight....though we're all fodder for Adelaide by the looks of things.

Are the Cats doing anything post game for members etc ?? Does anyone know ??? I saw the function for the one vs the Bulldogs, hoping for one here in Canberra.

Forget about it!! Cause we arent "shyte" anymore (i know, that is highly debatable ;) ) and dont have to sell anymore memberships, hardly any players turn up.

For memory, Mccarthy, David and Steve Johnson and one more (name escapes me, atm), showed up last night.

Anyway, Manuka Oval is def a danger.. as is ANY interstate venue!!! But we have a 7 day break, almost a full list to choose out of. No excuses. We should not drop this one!!

Haha.. thank you for that!! We'll be sure to pass it onto Bomber ;)

And thanks for your good wishes about the eight. Unfortunately we ARE fodder for Adelaide. Pysses you RIGHT OFF dont it????

Henry and Mackie!

And the VFL boys. Charlie, Callan, Batchelor, Prismall, Ricco (poo he's not VFL) and Sheringham.

Disappointing turnout.

I'm not gonna be overly confident about this one either. We just have to remember that we tore North apart early in the season and there's no reason why we can't do it again if we apply the same sort of intensity. Manuka is an interstate game for both teams, really. I don't know that North has any particular advantage playing there in the way that we do at KP.

Still need to work our arses off though. We're on a bit of a roll and it's time to keep it going.

The Adelaide post match function was alright. Hunt, Stokes, Milburn, Ablett Jnr, Harley, Kingsley and Tenace rocked up.

Was bummed not to meet Corey and Mooney but I thought 7 from 22 after a 92 point loss was alright.

After that I can see why Kingsley gets as many chances as he does because he seems like an absolute champion of a bloke. Same with Dasher.

Cheers dude, but this for us perenially pessimistic Geelong fans is a big danger game. We're generally abysmal interstate and we've never won in Canberra. Simple fact is if they show the desperation and commitment shown against Port and Footscray we should win. But Geelong blow games they should win all the time (Hawthorn, Richmond etc), so I'm not going in overconfident by any means.

As long as Mooney is back in, and Kingsley stays in purgatory we're a chance.

I predict that North will come out and play like girls since they've had to train at Fernwood all week ;)

I know this is one of those games that Geelong have been know to drop, but I just get a bit of a feeling about them now and Moon Dog is a massive in. Geelong by 38 points.

I was at both of those games, in both we played very ordinary footy. Seems the cats have a fair bit of support up here.

Will be at this one too, but am very worried.

And BTW, it's really not that cold...

Me too :)

It isn't that bad in Canberra (temp. wise)....the pre-season game i think it was the conditions were terrible, we didn't play the wet weather good at all...it was very frustrating because it was so obvious what had to be done.

The weather up there is a bit better then here in Geelong, usually cold frosty mornings turn into fine clear winter days, hopefully it is this kind of day come this weekend......a very big danger game.....a bit like Melbourne losing to Fremantle.....although we aren't overly expected to easily win...the odds are fairly close.

IF we lose this one it will make it that much harder because we then have Brisbane at the 'Gabba.....:(

Man SIX players after a shocking loss like that one... and we get only a few after an inspiring one-point victory!

Go figure.
