Speculation Matt Rowell

I don’t think he will leave but my inner soul just KNOWS there’s no way in hell they will win a flag on the MCG coming up against a Geelong or Collingwood. Just won’t happen
The Lions beat the Cats at the MCG just last season in a huge Prelim... and were under a kick from beating the Pies in the Grand Final the year before.

Long time ago but the Lions also beat MCG tenants the Pies and Bombers in GFs for their 3 Peat.

Not saying it's not tough as hell to do it but it can be done.

I’m not talking about the Lions who have decades of success/ culture behind them. I’m talking about the soulless franchise of the Suns who suffer the same problems as GWS- talent everywhere but continually underwhelm. Happy to be proven wrong as I have nothing against either of those teams and enjoy the way they play, I just KNOW that Rowell will never win a flag at the Gold Coast

I remember a few pundits saying the same about a young Brisbane Lions side many moons ago.
Next minute... well 2-3 years later... they snag themselves 3 flags in 4 consecutive Grand final appearances.
Mind you it was vs 2 MCG specialist and one of those teams in Essendon being one of the best teams going around for a 3-4 year period back in the day.
Anyways FWIW I reckon they are on the cusp of a great era and yes agreed he (Rowell) will stay.

If you know what the future holds, what are next weeks powerball numbers? 🤣 Culture and success has to start somewhere obviously other teams have decades and decades of a head start but the Suns seem to be buildingsomething. Suns haven't achieved anything yet so I get your point but hopefully they can prove you wrong.

If GC play Hawthorn in a final on the G this year, I’d put my money on Hardwicks Suns.
They aren’t easy beats no matter where anyone plays them but they will also beat Hawthorn.
Their midfield will dominate. Sorry.

Oh you can be sorry, sorry your opinion means absolutely 100% less than dirt to me. I would definitely take Hawks on the G, although I’d take GC Up in their sauna. Sorry.

They didn't when they won their threepeat from 2001-2003 over Essendon and Collingwood x2.

The combined history of the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions was as pathetic as two clubs could possibly get. Fitzroy won less games over their last 10 years of existence than Gold Coast has been over the past 10 years, including this year that's only half finished.

Richmond won three flags in four years after decades of irrelevance.

Every team doesn't have a history of success until they do.

Yeah this.

Ironically it took Hawthorn 32 years to make their first final series after they entered the VFL.

Joining the Dogs and along side Ed Richards, Oskar Baker (who retains his spot on the list for this very reason) and Rory Lobb (who by this stage will dye his hair orange to celebrate the signing) will form the Teenage Mutant Ginger Turtles.

For reals though, I'd take him, but I hope he stays on the GC.

Basically, I think we know in the next month if he is staying or not.

If he hasn't re-signed by the time we run out against the Giants post bye, he has begun packing his bags.
I'm expecting him to stay, but the longer it goes on the more worried you will start to get. apparently, it's been reported that the Suns don't know anything in regard to him staying or going, being kept in the dark.

I’d reckon they still have time to get it done at GCS… but your point stands… it’s June.. they’d want to hear something soon.

Go Catters

Look as an out-of-Vic team supporter, it is the horrible feeling you have in your stomach that you're up against it at the G if you're against a Vic team.

2018 however showed me that you can get across the line (and that was even against a MCG tenant, not just a Vic team).

.... damn nearly didn't though!

I think the opposite. Given how often gc crash in the 2nd halves of years he's probably just going to wait til round 20ish to be sure you're playing finals, then sign for 2 years.

Leaving now would be a strange decision when the club is finally half decent on field.

Even a two year contract just to kick the can down the road would work.
