Sorry to see him finally break away from the Geelong FC. But if he has real ambitions to make his career in coaching, it seems like a natural progression. Good luck, Eags :thumbsu:
Think that might have occurred when he commenced litigation over the handling of his injury.

This disappoints me, perhaps he didn't fit into the future plans or maybe he just wanted a change?!
Either way I don't appreciate Essendon doing their best to gut our club to bolster their own, **** off and BUILD your own club you poaching tirds
Who's the coach behind our most recent premiership era? And what's his nickname?

You realize you're responding to a post that's almost four years old, made by a poster whose last post on BF was him requesting the deletion of his account, right?

There are some other 2011posts from people I wish would request to have their accounts deleted ;) :p

That was the day he truly became an Essendon person. Suing someone is like an initiation ritual at Essendon.
Is Egan suing Geelong Cats, as well as the surgeon? :(

Egan named a surgeon and the then club doctor and is seeking to recover medical costs, compensatory damages, and punitive compensation. It's hard to see how the club can completely escape the action as the club doctor was a salaried employee of the club at the time.

Thank you AM. Is the assertion that the surgeon botched the operation? Or that the surgeon + club doctor's rehab programme was unsuccessful or harmful? Or both? In my experience, doctors usually settle cases unless the lawsuit is fallacious, or Egan might have refused the offered settlement. It's very disappointing that he is suing them, but then he had such an ordeal.

Will_I_Am, thanks for the "like".

Only took you roughly 4 years but it was well worth the wait. :D

No.
Club doc, now at The Lexus Centre, and the foot surgeon.
I believe the Club is not involved in litigation, in this and most cases like it.
As you say, later on, it is usually settled.
But as AM says, the club was the employer.
Medicos are well insured.

* The Age 26 Aug 2014

In the writ, Egan, who played 59 games for Geelong after debuting in 2005 and is currently an assistant coach at Essendon, claimed Mr Blackney and Dr Bradshaw had failed to:

* discuss the treatment options available for Egan's navicular stress fracture;

* inform Egan of the risk involved in having an operation on his foot;

* inform Egan that even with an operation, there was "virtually no prospect" of him playing football within the month following surgery;

* inform Egan the average return time to sport following surgery was five months;

* inform Egan there were considerable risks of undergoing surgery and the rehabilitation program.

Think Vdubs would agree the clinical notes taken at the time will be central to the outcome.

Thanks again AM.

Yes, the clinical notes will be important to the result. Geelong has a good history of giving players plenty of time to recover + for injured players to receive cutting edge treatment. Look at Rooke's treatment in Germany for his hamstring, which was a success. The amount of time the Club has invested in Cowan, Vardy, Simpson + Menzel, meaning there would be little chance of any implication that Egan was rushed back. But navicular injuries can be tricky for some, while others recover well. It was mentioned previously that Hird had a navicular injury + recovered. Egan obviously thinks something went wrong, which was the result of further medical consultation. There was also mention that Egan chose a cheaper surgical option, but I have no idea who said it, so I can't quote it + it could be wrong. These cases become very contentious.

Egan got the gig as he has no chance of getting it at the end of the year. The other experienced coaches are too risky for this reason.

They will go external for a new coach. No way they risk internal. It will be a fresh new start which is what they needed long ago. By the start of next year, they could have a new coach, new president, WADA being over etc.

Was saddened to hear is just 32 years of age when Fox Sports were talking about this last night.
32! It made think about all the lost years he missed with us. You look at our current back-line and imagine he'd still be running around in the final year/s of his career.

Yep so it's only fitting he becomes Essendon coach.

I lost respect for him when he decided to sue the club and doctor.
Egan isn't suing Geelong, but they will be involved, see AM's posts:

I can understand you thinking that way Bots. However, the exact details of the case are unknown to us + if for some reason there was an error made during Egan's surgery, which we don't know, Egan may well have a reasonable basis upon which to take legal recourse.

It also needs to be remembered that solicitors + barristers will only take cases they believe will be successful. Plus many of these cases, if negligence is proved are settled by the doctors' insurance companies, which is why doctors' insurance premiums are massive.

I think we can recognise that Egan was an unfortunate case, along similar lines as Cowan, Vardy, Simpson + Menzel, of which we still have high hopes that Cowan, Vardy + Menzel will recover. Sadly for Simpson, it doesn't seem he will make it :(

We need to walk in someone's shoes before making judgements about them, well I think :)

He'd have to be the youngest head coach in a while, temporary or permanent. Brad Scott was mid-30s I think when he got his gig?
