Here, here. Knights is a rude wigged goose.

For goodness sake play the guy out of the goal square and get some onballers who can hit him lace out!

I'd support him going to the bulldogs, imagine that midfield hitting on the lead, he'd bag 70 easy.

Definately agree with everything but the Knights ragging only cause i have a bit of man love for the bloke.

Lloyd out of the square with your midfield would be lethal. Be an old forward line with aka n Johnson tho you'd wanta win the flag.

What about when hutchy caught up with him after their little meeting. He says ' THE CLUB has asked matthew to play on'. Can't seem to bring himself to say that he wants him to play, he realy doesnt want him to play i don't think..

Because it is the club and not just Knight making the decision. He's not a Grant Thomas style coach that run's everything.

Andrew Maher said on SEN this morning that good sources have told him that Lloyd will be walking out on Essendon but will look to play on elsewhere next year. Make of it what you will

**** if true.

Will easily bag 65+ if he plays for the Dogs. If he isn't playing for the Dons I hope they take him. Will teach Knighta a lesson. Don't mess with champion player's positions. They've been in their position their whole ****ing career. Keep them there!!!

Excuse me for butting in..

Strong rumour is that Matthew will retire this week and be offered an assistants position at....guess where...Freo.

Watch this pace.

His brother is (correct me if I'm wrong) Fremantle's recruiting manager, and you'd say he probably has a good relationship with Mark Harvey, Dean Wallis.

It wouldn't be that shocking.
I believe his brother is actually at Collingwood. Hence the links last week.

Edit: Actually, you're right. One's at Collingwood and the other's at Freo.

Has there been any word when he will announce his decision?

Last i heard was he was going to take the weekend to think about it.
Only thing he has said is that he'll make his announcement sometime this week. Not exactly specific.

Only day I think we can count out is Wednesday as it's one of his brothers birthdays so I'd assume he and his family will have other plans then.

I hope it's tomorrow. As windyhill said, this has gone on too long now.

.....
Knights has hung ML out to dry. And it has naught to with ML's merit next year or not in the best 22. Just poor media handling from Knights.

I just rekon knights like everyone else in the world hates Hutchy and didnt want to give him a story to make any $ from. However Hutchy still made a story out of it

Hutchy is a good enough reason for Knights to just bury his head???

Knights is a weak sap but this was always just poor stratgem

And it will bite Mk on the arse. He doesn't have the credit in the bank to murder players like this. Especially 900+ goal kickers with so much left on the table 2009 into 2010. And the truth always comes out eventually. When ???when nobody but 15 other clubs want to hear about it.

It is done now anyhow. ML has made up his mind one way or another.

And the irony of Knights re; the players coach. He has got his head stuck up his arse re his public profile. Did the hard thing with Pev and MJ.

Told them MK did. The right thing for the club. He thought and it wsa projected so. So he gave them the news early and clearly. Yet ML's case is contrarian in everyway.

Knights is a weak sap. He was foxing, an act for a modern day Pontius Pilate and the crowd to decide another fate.

And the EFC media machine was either too slow to rescue it or got sucked into the vortex.

Lloyd has everyright to wonder why he is stuck in this new place. And if he makes a reactionary decision as a result the responsibility is squarely at Knights' feet

Listening to Footy Confidential - quick mention at the start of the show that Matt has come back to Essendon that he wants to play at full forward. Apparently has been told that there is no guarantee that he will. As much as I love Lloydy, no one else would get that guarantee would they?

I hope they don't end up with an ultimatum, where neither will back down. It would be a shame if it went

Knights: "you are a required player next year"
Lloyd: "well, I'll only play if I can play full forward"
Knights: "I can't promise you that"......... :(

Im just waiting and hoping they will announce he is playing on. This is starting to look like a train wreck waiting to happen.

P.S Hutchy should shut his fat mouth. There is no way he knows the intricate details of private conversations between Knights and Lloyd.

Maybe we could get Campbell Brown to slap it!

Well it seems like that's what Knights wants to give Neagle....

I really don't know what to think about all of this. Obviously I'm not in the inner sanctum of the club, but from the outside it appears to be getting rather ugly and I grow less confident of him being a Bomber next year by the day :(

Campbell Brown should be given an opportunity to reply.:thumbsu: I would love to see NLM will slap him down again before he got within a yard of ML. It was the perfect crunch re NLM on Campbell.

But seriously, when has the EFC been so assayed by a situation like this before?

And can someone seriously argue too that the club/Knights has not mishandled Lloyd here?

Well it seems like that's what Knights wants to give Neagle....:(

My losing record at the dapto greyhounds is under real threat from Knights as a gambler if the 'Neagle plus one' forward line is the baulk at Lloyd 2010.

Get a grip. Neagle may mature but not at at cost of LLoyd playing from the square for us 2010. And Neagle just may not ever do more than get a grip on a football plated to him. Strong, lead up forward, he is but still no monty for a ML in the box.

How many can gamble Neagle will be that player to neglect signing Lloyd 2010??

They went on to show some of Sheedy's 2007 comments. He clearly had intentions of playing him in a different position as well. I recall talk about playing him up the ground to get him more involved as he was beging with being the captain. This explanation has made the most sense as he has played mostof his games in the past 3 years with Lucas.
I haven't heard Knights use this as a reason though. I don't get the whole developing youth explanation when Gumbleton is injured and neagle hasn't been a regular even when Lloyd hasn't played. I can understand why they'd play him up the ground if neagle was playing as well, but why do they do it when he isn't? Doesn't realy make much sense to me, unless there's some other reason for playing him at Half forward.

its hard to believe everything you hear/read. my opinion:

(a) if matthew lloyd is so stubborn that he wants to put himself ahead of the team and only play full-forward and not be flexible then shame on him. i'd let him go if this is the case - i'm doubting this is entirely true though. a captain should be a great leader willing to play any role in the team - eg. james hird.

(b) i strongly believe knights will be doing the right thing by essendon playing guys such as neagle, hurley and gumbleton out of full-foward next year along with lloyd and even hille/ryder on occasions. if he is able to rotate these guys thru the side is less predictable. at no moment in time has knights ever suggested neagle will be the sole full-forward - he has made a point of saying each player in the side needs to earn his place on merit.

(c) an ageing lloyd on the decline pace wise permanently at full-forward could be to the detriment of essendon's performance. there is no way in hell knights can guarantee lloyd will play FF week after week - if lloyd aint performing and essendon are losing knights needs flexibility at the selection table to get the team performing. its ridiculous to suggest a senior afl coach should bow to any player request really that could potentially jeopardise team performance.

(d) lloyd has shown on multiple occasions he is capable of playing up the ground and playing that role well. he's had several games where he has taken over 10 marks and been one of the best players on the ground.

so i see no problem with knights asking lloyd to be flexible, as any squad member should be, on what position they play.

Agree with all of this. Also, I think its highly unlikely that Lloyd would go to another club given that next year will probably be his last.

If this article in todays Age is to believed then it's not looking good.

Lloyd may hang up the boots
Jake Niall | September 15, 2009
ESSENDON captain Matthew Lloyd is leaning towards retirement, with the forward having privately indicated his time at Windy Hill is almost certainly up.

I feel physically ill.

Such a wonderful career deserves a much better ending than this.
