Remember in 1996 when the merger was almost sealed between Hawthorn and Melbourne.

Well Hawthorn president then Ian Ridley and the Melbourne president had already promoted the new uniform even when the deal was not done, IDIOTS!!

So here they are if you havent already seen them in the worst jumper thread....

They even managed to merge their theme songs! Anyone remember the words?

Not all the words, but I do remember one line...

"one for all and all for one, two will make you stronger...Keep your eye on the Mighty Melbourne Hawks." :o

What a shocker!

Not all of 'em Xie.

Went something like...

We're the Melbourne Hawks, we're the high flying Hawks
We're the mighty (?) Melbourne Hawks

Might have been another line or two here

We love our club and we play to win
Watch us we play with a grin
Every heart beats true for the red, gold and blue(?)

...and that's about as much as I can recall. :o

Melbourne Hawks Song

Found this in my old Footy record from the North Melbourne v. Geelong Qualifying Final 1996.

The merged teams song goes:

We're the mighty Melbourne Hawks
We play each game and we play to win
Watch us, we play with a grin
Every heart beats true, for the gold red and blue
As we sing this song for you (Whadda we sing - presumably!)
One for all and all for one
Two will make you stronger
Keep your eye on the mighty Melbourne Hawks

God! They even had the Crimmins-Truscott Trophy for the club champion award.

Thanks for that Yianni. :) All I can say is............ OUCH!!!!!!!:eek::eek: I mean, the Brisbane Lions song is like TONS better than that lol. But a song like that.......... maybe it was just a ploy to dissuade people from the merger idea????? That HAS to be it, they surely weren't serious.

Yeah Lioness, it is pretty crap.

I don't know. I don't think that it would be possible to make a new theme song which was good. It's the tradition behind it that makes the song, not the words (especially for 2 established Melbourne clubs such as Hawthorn and Melbourne)

I personally don't think the Kangaroos song is the best one in the league (gotta love that Richmond song), but it's the one that I like the best cause I know they've been singing it for years and years. That's why I get so annoyed when they play around with it for marketing reasons!!

Change the name from North Melbourne to Kangaroos, etc, etc, but LEAVE THE F**KING SONG ALONE!

anyhoo im glad that it isnt the case, and i am glad we r still called the MELBOURNE DEMONS despite the crap that is going on.

HAHA

That song is disgraceful. I'm sure that song writers weren't that scarce in the 90's.. jeez..

One for all and all for one
Two will make you stronger

What in the world is that.

I bet you liked everything about that proposed Merger:mad:

I thought everything about it was wrong and as for the song, that should have been enought to turn you off even voting "yes"

Someone get me a gun... :D

Anyway, glad we didn't merge, everything about it was wrong.

Hawthorn are now one of the most money-making clubs in Victoria, and we aren't too shabby on the field either. ;)

The Hitman

Those jumpers are a disgrace, and the song isn't much better.

Interesting the AFL had all this propaganda throughout the record. Bet it didn't have anything on the other side of the argument, and I bet it didn't mention the AFL wasted $400,000 on a PR company to get the thing happening, then billed Hawthorn when it fell over.

Haven't bought a copy of that propaganda rubbish since 1996.

What has the AFL got against us? seriously?

Well I don't think the blatant 'let's kill a few clubs mentality' that was so rampant in the mid-90's is there anymore, due to a number of factors, especially the new TV deal.

But the Melbourne Hawks fiasco showed just how 2 faced the AFL were back then. After the Brisbane Lions disaster where they intervened after the North deal fell through, they claimed they wouldn't get involved in mergers any more, it was up to the clubs. Yet funnily enough, a few weeks later they are filling the AFL Record with stories on how great the Melbourne Hawks would be.

A lot of it was due to Ross Oakley, but fortunately that scum of the earth has crawled up some hole where he belongs, hopefully to stay there forever.

Wayne Jackson is just as much of a ******** though, thats the problem.

I was overseas at the time, and came back to Oz the day of the merger vote.

I had NEVER heard of this song until now

That is beyond a disgrace

"One for all and all for one TWO WILL MAKE YOU STRONGER"???!!!

It's almost a parody, it's so bad :mad::mad::mad:
