What's the matter with it?

I have no problem with Vince staying one more year with still a young developing group. He might not be best 22 later next year though, but he deserves one more year IMO.

Pedo is the interesting one. Hes played some good footy this year in replace of Gawn, but he struggled once Gawn was back to play that forward relief ruck role. TMac can play that role IMO. Pedo is not getting any younger, so do we give him one more year as insurance in case Gawn goes down again? I'm not sure we can keep Spencer and Pedo both on the list. I'm guessing he's in trouble unless he finds form and somehow breaks back in the team in the remaining weeks of the season.

After what happened earlier in the season, I think it's pretty obvious that we can and need to keep both Spencer and Pedo on the list.

Vince is cooked, and we can cover him as we have many times this year.

Pedo is insurance who can still play. Max King is going to get booted this year surely, if we do that then edo has to stay seeing as our only 2 rucks are injury prone, and our key forward depth is shallow.

I don't see why we would, lost his first year to an ACL, which are basically a two year injury anyway, and that's even before you consider he's a ruckman and will likely need 4-5 years to build the muscle and the tank until he's ready anyway. No point dumping him just to draft another ruckman, and start the process over again.

Max King isn't on the list anymore, if you mean Mitch I don't see the harm in giving him another two years. He is a second year ruck coming off a knee reco, it isn't like we'd be paying him 500k a year for the foreseeable future.

Agree Pedo should get one more year though, on Vince I was the first person on here to say he is cooked but he did come out and say he is willing to play at Casey on a new deal, if he does that and takes a significant pay cut (Remember we renegotiated his contract at end of 2015 as a reward for his excellent first two years) I'n happy to keep him.

All far points.

On the concept of young ruckmen, seeing as so many of them seem to need years to get their bodies right, get big enough ect ect, does anyone else think that most clubs will simply send rucks to do that kind of conditioning in the VFL, then rookie them later when they get a lot closer? Just means u don't end up with dead weight on your list for a few years.

Yes and no, you'd think there is a few big guys running around in State Leagues who'll be watched carefully for that reason, but I don't think it'll ever become the norm. At the end of the day, the player is better off being in the professional system to help them gain that size and experience, and if every team is carrying one or two of them, the effect of carrying the dead weight isn't particularly pronounced because everyone has it.

Former Melbourne coach Roos said the club’s game style in the first five rounds was “terrible”, stunned by their horror early start to the year.

Melbourne players have hit out at star recruit Steven May for his poor shape but Roos said his understanding was many players were unfit when they returned.

Honestly **** this club, Roosy wouldnt be making that up. Scapegoated Steven May but apparently a shitload of them were happy with themselves

What made us a great football team and what we’ve built, when we’ve played our best football, has been around the contest side of the game,” he said.

“We haven’t really clicked there just yet.

“Whilst you can look for alternatives ... I know we can get back to the contest stuff and it’s not too hard to get back.

“(Going forward) there’s obviously a disconnect from all three lines. It’s a team issue, rather than it is a chemistry, a connection. We’ll keep chipping away.”

We were 7th with 2 games to go, had WC not lost Kennedy and Darling before the end of the first quarter against us there was a real chance we could have missed finals. I know Vineys a bit of a dumb campaigner but we were not a GREAT team ever.

This is a genuinely interesting listen; Pert before the game on the weekend:

Talks about whether Brendon McCartney has been made a scapegoat, the part of the team he wants to recruit in next year (hint - it's genuinely not outside midfielders...) and gambling culture. A measured media performance, didn't mind it from him.

Did that dickhead really just say we have identified that we need a KPF who kicks goals?

I heard that interview on SEN. it was the first time that I heard him speak and I didn’t think it was a very impressive performance. He let the interviewers lead him too much and seemed to be constantly justifying the measures that the club had taken. In particular, his comment that there were a few people at the club who gambled seemed unnecessary.

Going into the interview, he should have had a number of simple messages that he wanted to deliver and stuck with them, and not let the journalists dictate the agenda and sensationalise for the sake of a story.

You would hope that there is someone at the club that can give him some advice and coaching before his next interview.

Well he isn't wrong, but i hope he realises they aren't cheap.
And teams very rarely give up good prove ones................well most teams anyway!
