Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

He's very likely to be de-registered by the AFL, after which time ridiculous threads like these become moot.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

not a chance. collingwood is doing its best to rid itself of bad culture, in the exit of tarrant and the hard rules laid down on dids. ben cousins is the last thing we would want. bringing him in could lead to dids going off the rails, and with the form hes been in of late, would be devastating if it happened!

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

The thing with Ben Cousens is that even though he is very good player,he would not fit into our club.Firstly he is 30 and getting old.Even if he got another go,with all the drugs the guy has taken over so many years, this will catch up to him.He will not be the same player he was.Besides our midfield is getting better we will include some exciting young players like wellingham and dick there next year, collingwood will do very, very, well without ben cousens.
Wait till didak gets another preeseason under his belt,he will blitz in the centre and midfield next year, did you know he has been training with the melbourne victory to increase his freakish ball skills. He will become an elite player next year.People talk of chris judd wait till Marty Clrake shows his proper wares next year. The kid is a freak. The things he can do with the ball will revolutionise our game. Most people haven't seen this kid's skills he has been honing them ,because this was his first year playing with a football and not a round ball.Wait till the footy public see him next year,he will leave players on the field simply dumbfounded, forget chris Judd wait for Marty Clrake's proper arrival to AFL.we have only seen glimpses of what this kid can do.I'm excited.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

He wont be derigersted because his only had 2 strikes i think moving to Melbourne and under people that seem to me that really care about him Malthouse, Mckenna, could really do wonders maybe having a session with Malthouse twice a week after training seeing how he is plus having professinalls there to help him and also getting away from the spotlight and the DEVIL Daniel Chick dont be surprised if it happends Malthouse might even move Cousins in with him would do him wonders he just needs to get a stable life in WA he doesnt have that what were WC thinking letting him move back in with Chick.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Anyone who thinks he should come to Collingwood is certifiably insane.

I dont think he should but i wouldnt be surprsied if he did

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Both WCE and the AFL owe Cousins for mishandling him for years. His long-term rehabilitation should be fully monitored by both organisations. If he's recovered in say 2 years maybe he could work as an anti-drug ambassador so that he could at least keep his contacts with the game.

Anyone suggesting he come to Collingwood for next year should be taken out and shot.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Id Have him.

I would say to ben, Right we have picked you up and given you another chance of playin this game, now its up to you to reward us.
Here are the rules Ben, you have a curfew which is 1am. every night of the year. You must be drug tested every Monday morning for the 52 weeks, if you dont respond to these rules then ur contract and playing future is out the window forever.
Only get him to sign 1 year contracts, coz if he really wanted to play AFL football he would do it.

If the Pies do that...I would be happy for him to play for us.

P.S> You also cant hang out with Michael Gardiner lol

Re: Cousins

if he wants to play AFL ever again (which I think he does) then he is going to comply with our terms. So with that in mind I'd draw up terms that meant we drug tested him every 5 days or something like that to ensure he wasn't touching anything. If he ever failed one of them, then out the door.
He was already on his last legs with a revised contract and being regularly drug tested etc and he still stuffed up. The guy is finished.

They don't owe him jack- anyone who takes drugs deserves NO sympathy and deserves the consequences- no matter their situation or problems they might have

Being charged with the offences of possession and failing to provide a blood sample > a positive on an ASADA test.

Re: Cousins? Is he worth a go?

Should we try and lure him to the club?
No, he failed to take a blood test, so because of that, it should be treated as worse than a failed drug test.
Wasn't Valium. Was an anti-anxiety* drug, for which he didn't have a prescription.
Diazepam (Valium) is an anti-anxiety drug that requires a prescription.
Valium is still uysed ny people as a recreational drug, like horse sedative (i dont know why but they do)
Diazepam is a Schedule 4 non-narcotic drug. As with other benzodiazepine drugs, it is often abused by combining it with opioids and alcohol. Much has to do with how much he had in his possession, and whether they were pills or in injectable form.

Providing he is available in the draft it would have a lot of clubs thinking:

Gun player
One year contract for not very much
Has a lot to prove
Change of environment needed

Purely from a football point of view you would be stupid not to consider it.

Obviously there is more to it than just football and he would be a massive risk. Things could be put in place to minimise that risk such as performance based contract, strict rules, one strike policy etc etc. You could easily talk yourself in to saying he is worththe gamble because there is a big upside.

Then from a personal point of view I would hate to see him in black & white, but you have to put that aside when making these sort of decisions.

You know how people are always heard to complain that "football is a business now"?

They're right, and recruiting Ben Cousins now would be bad business.

As i said in another thread - he is not fighting for his footy career, he is fighting for his life.

Talk of him playing next year is ridiculous. Discussion about the type of drugs he was caught with and then downplaying what has happend as a result mystifies me.

He was sacked because he has an addiction that has lead to him at different times unable to train, run away from police, be unconcious in public places, punch a teamate, refuse to answer questions from police as to gangster relationships etc etc. The other day was the end of a long list of drug addicted behaviour.

He has lost his dignity, mates, girlfriend and career - that is what happens to people addicted to drugs - over time they lose everything.

I just hope for Ben & his family that he comes out of this with his life.

Maybe he was so good because he was speeding and cokeing off his head half the time...

Please don't try to tell me speed or cocaine is not performance enhancing

And obvious he is in a deep stage of addiction but he never got caught in drug tests so maybe he knew how to mask it all.

2006 GF ok they won the GF but afterwards he did look like a man who was on something right?

Maybe being 29 on nothing and aftereffects of drug abuse he would be a dud...

I for one feel sorry for Ben, but he decided to go that way. Regarding cousins playing football again, I think that in his best interest to not play football again and get himself right. If Cousins did play footy again, I think a baby sitter is need to watch Cousins is need, becaue he atracts trouble it seems. I know it's a childish idea, but it seems that Cousins can't be trusted in the off field. I have a feeling that the AFL commisison will make an example of the West Eagles with the document they signed early this year regarding for off field stuff. I reckon that next month the AFL commision will take some draft picks away, possibly pick 3 and 20 pemership points for next season.

They are not preformance enhancing, There are phsycial advatages but there are cognitive disadvantages of addiction coupled with the fact that he was unable to train if anything they would be a disadvatage to be on as a professional athlete especcially as it got to the point he was unable to train.

We are not talking about a bloke playing on goey once or twice in a paddock league we are talking about a full blown physical addiction in a professional competition

Imagine that! WOW, Eagles won't play finals nexy year if that happens.
