the facts are we could have had the last 2 NAB rising star awardees in selwood and palmer

and i would've selected them BOTH !!
Gumbleton never appealed to me because we already had Lloyd/Lucas at the time. Selwood was the exact type of midfielder we were looking for, and had captain written all over him.
Palmer was the obvious choice in 07 draft. we desperately needed a midfielder that could make an impact in 08 and i knew this kid would be ready-made. i saw Myers as a Birchall type that would not be worthy of a pick no.6.

my read has been spot on. (i'm usually very good)

and i DO NOT want Essendon taking Hurley with pick 5 !!
you NEVER take a defender with a top pick - not even if you think he's the next Matty Scarlett !!
defenders don't win games of football !!

Maybe for Geelongs.

They've drafted enough superstars...
our first pick isnt too far off geelongs round 1. not worth it.
i would really like us try n package lovett + pick 5 for an earlier pick from one of the teams (granted it wont be melbourne). then throw in another late pick or young player (dyson?) if necessary

probs wont happen, but i would love to see us take the best player possibly
we could secure hurley, possibly get rich..or almost do whatever we want

Yeah, cos Gumby & Myers are now in the twilight of their careers!

Have some patience... you don't finish bottom 5 & then draft for the immiediate future. I have confidence in both of those selections :thumbsu:

I will say up front that i would have taken Palmer in front of Myers and Hanson over Gumby.
Now your line in the middle is slightly over the top. You had a crystal ball and knew that Gumby would get injured and not be able to play much footy ?
And you have pegged Myers before he has turned 20.
Seriously you are a genious, better send a copy of this post to all the recruiting departments becuae they are looking for spotters with Crystal Balls who can predict the future with such accuracy:rolleyes:

This is one of the worst posts I have read for some time.

It is full of self-righteous arrogance.. to quote you -- "I am usually very good" -- are you serious? Look at your read on the game of football. You state that defenders do not win games of football. I think you will find that conventional wisdom suggests that great teams are built around a solid back 6.

You also state that Gumby did not appeal to you bc we had scotty and Llyod. Um.. who are going to retire in the next 2-3 years. Perhaps your plan is to play Lovett/Stanton/Jetta or another one of our multitude of big key position prospects in as KPF after they retire?

I'm not a massive wrap for Hurley compared to most the other top prospects, but if ever there was a guy who could win you a game from defence, he'd be one. Setting up play from defence with clean disposal is bloody important these days and Hurley's a master at it - can kick 60m on BOTH sides of his body with excellent accuracy.

A lot of your posts are rubbish and wrong but i don't usually bother to reply to them, but i will on this one as you are clearly a genius.

Please advise for the record who we should pick this year with pick 5.

I wanted Palmer last year also and Gumby the year before and my posts are on record where as yours are claims of grandeur after the fact.

So put your pick on record so in 5 years we can tell you what a genius your clearly are.

I wanted Myers or Palmer last year, but this constant "omgz y dint we pik plmer??" "Palmer > Myers" is ridiculous. Not everyone can make a Selwood-like impact in their first year.

The collective memories of BF would span at most about 10 days...Myers was looking awesome before his foot flared up, especially against Carlton - that 55m bullet to Lloyd on the chest in the last quarter was amazing.

Don't worry about Myers, he may not have Palmers ball winning ability yet but he is at least able to use the ball. I would much rather a bloke that gets 20 possessions and he uses it well 18 times, than someone who gets 30 possessions and uses it well 12 times. You can't acquire kicking penetration...

Great post! :thumbsu:

I had Palmer as preference at the time (and posted it on our draft preferences board) but was still wrapt to get Myers.

We needed his skills and kicking penetration which Palmer simply doesn't have....... & imagine the threads from the critics on here about Palmer's clangers had we drafted him! For some people the grass is always greener.....

Adrian Dodoro - Talks about the draft

List manager, Adrian Dodoro, predicts the upcoming trade period will be one of the more active ones in years when he appears on the Finals Show this week with former Premiership star Paul Barnard.

“It’s starting to hot up and clubs are starting to talk,” Dodoro said.
“There are seven to eight ruckman who will get picked up in the national draft this year I think - it is a very good tall draft but there isn’t as much depth in midfielders as there has been in previous years.

“Our thoughts at the moment are simply to do our homework and we have the trade period and draft camp coming up and then we have a month to analyze the information. Pick 5 is a terrific pick and it depends on what the clubs do in front of us on what sort of player we will take.

Well if that's the case then "Midfielder" with the first round pick...:thumbsu:

Re: Adrian Dodoro - Talks about the draft

Massive hint in there. I'd be backing we'll go with a midfielder with our first pick. Rich/Hartlett/Ziebell. That's about as much I can draw from that, every year pre-trade period they say it's going to be rather busy.

Ziebell or Hartlett?

It looks a battle between two key midfielders ; Ziebell from Country Victoria and Hartlett from South Australia, both outstanding talents.

Ziebell has great skills, vision, leadership qualities & composure.

Hartlett has great pace, skills & has proven he can mix it with the big boys, senior SANFL footy.

It'd be tough to decide one or the other, but I'd go with Ziebell purely because he comes from Victoria, a slightly safer pick.

So as the poll suggests, if you had our first round draft pick, which player out of these two would you prefer?

Re: Adrian Dodoro - Talks about the draft

more like...

trade the pick for Kerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

FTW :D

Re: Adrian Dodoro - Talks about the draft

More like YAAARRRAAANNN!!

Ok, that's a joke. Well at least I hope it is. Looks like my hopes of Essendon drafting Trengove are becoming even more slim than they were before, if that article is an accurate hint of the clubs motivation.

Re: Ziebell or Hartlett?

could you please add 1 more choice GS

- trade the pick (for Kerr)

i vote that. :)

I'd call you a fool, but your recent posts have trumpeted that fact all over the board so my role is now redundant.

On topic, they both sound like they are very promising talents but I'd have to go with Hartlett as I think he suits our midfield better.

if you have read any of my posts on the draft you will know my opinion on pick 5 and that is use it on hurley, imo he is the most promising player that will be around and pick 5 and definately suits our needs.

i actually going to side with ^^ i would strongly consider using pick 5 on kerr. a proven great midfeilder would be really handy.

on topic though i think hartlett is the better player of the two and i would choose him over ziebell if they were the choices
