Based on that video; Ziebell looks like a massive kick and Sidebottom looks incredibly good up forward for a midfielder (seems to read the play very well).
on both feet :thumbsu:

This might give you a bit of an idea why Essendon have some interest in Yarran:

Yarran is definitely talented. But I think that with Davey and Jetta cementing a spot in our best 22 next year, we have enough of these types of players.
He'll be a great player no doubt, but realistically Hurley and Ziebell, one of the two look like coming to Essendon in 2009.

What's the chance that Yarran will slip to our second pick? not likely.

I think we have enough Small Forwards IMO...

Even though they have plenty [and plenty] of talent I believe we have that spot covered by many players.

I think we'll have to pass on Yarran this year, like we unfortunatly did with Rioli last year.

Yarren is not really a small forward. He is a bit bigger bodied compared to Jetta and some of the other aboriginal boys. He has played a bit of footy at half back as well.

Reading in paper today that Melbourne were looking at making a play for Davey. I hope we are not looking at a trade for him, I love his defensive pressure and it is something I have not seen at Essendon for a long time

Thats great we signed him but I hope we are not looking at a swap. We might even take Aaron of them if the brothers want to be together

There was an article a few weeks ago and Alwyn said he is happy at Essendon. No way he is going anywhere at the moment. I can't see Aaron coming to Essendon at the moment though

I have brought it up before, a young ruckmen in the AFLQ, Broc Mccauley, is only 20, gave up soccer to focus on the promising game of AFL, has been playing with one of the best teams in that competition, Southport Sharks, is a very prominsing ruckmen, 200+ cm, and has so much room for improvement, I am trying to do some research into how he went this year, and from all the match reports and so forth, he has been doing, extremely well for himself, would be a superb pickup i feel, as he is young, raw, and plenty of room to improve.

thoughts..........??

I've never heard of him. Do you feel that he's on many clubs radars?
Sounds promising from what you've just described. I'd be interested later in the draft.

If Broc was ever going to be picked up it was going to be last year and he didn't. I can't see him getting picked up to be honest but the Gold Coast team coming in soon might take a punt on him but besides them, I don't think any other club would think highly of him.

Seems that Richmond are thinking along your lines...

Broc McCauley-
Age: 20
Height: 201cms
Weight: 94kgs
Team: Southport Sharks (QLD state league)
1km: 2min 45sec
Beep Test: 13.8
Position: Ruckmen/ forward with the ability to play Adam Goodes type tall wingmen.
Only been playing the game since 2006 (soccer convert) so is learning the game as he goes but has developed good tap skills on both sides of the body, a raking 55-60m kick, a huge tank for a ruckmen and abiltiy to go forward and kick goals. Would be a good cheap pick up for a club with limited ruck stocks. This kid has potential by the bucketload (plus he is almost fully developed being age 20)

Surprise, surprise though. He has no negatives!

Broc McCauley-
Age: 20

He's 22 in December by my records.

If Broc was ever going to be picked up it was going to be last year and he didn't.

Why?

I can't see him getting picked up to be honest but the Gold Coast team coming in soon might take a punt on him but besides them, I don't think any other club would think highly of him.

Have you seen him play?

Unless you've seen him in Queensland, it's beyond me how you can make assertions about him.

Why?
Because last year he was basically turned into a footballer instead of a half-footballer before then and wasn't taken.

Have you seen him play?
I haven't seen him live, no. But I have seen footage of him playing in Queensland plus plenty of draft profiles on the side, from Bomberblitz a while back (which I don't go to anymore) and another forum who's name just escapes me, we were talking about him as well.

Answers in bold mate.

So any development this year should be disregarded?

Disregarded? Clearly not. He's past the normal draftee age that's around eighteen by a few years and really had his breakout season last year and was passed on. If anyone really wanted him they would've grabbed him last year and would've rathered they'd put work into him from themselves rather than let one of the Queensland teams teach him the tricks of rucking, positioning, etc because they generally don't know all the ins and outs of AFL footy.

Or clubs could've waited and seen if he continues to improve.

Clubs don't fill their lists with just anyone, you've got to be up to it.

What's saying he didn't improve in 2008?

After watching highlights of Sidebottom, I have switched my allegiances to him as opposed to Hurley. He seems to read the play so well, which I think is something that we lack at the moment (Watson is probably the leading exponent at our club.) He reminds me a bit of Caracella.
