All good and well for having more options. But Jack is a forward. He is not a half forward. He is a goal kicking full forward. If Dimma played him from the square today, we would have won by 5 goals. I know what Dimma is trying to do but hopefully this short stint as half forward doesn't last long, Riewoldt is a matchwinner and easily can kick big bags of 8+ against teams like Melbourne, North, Bulldogs etc and do it against the top 4 mob if we get it down their quick like we did last year to him. Dimma is trying to turn a coleman medallist, yes a coleman mediallist into a half forward. Jack should be played out of the square like the greats of Plugger, Carey, Dunstall, Lloyd.

Who's with me? :thumbsu:

We would have won if we had played Jack from the square today instead of half forward. He is our best kick at goal (bar his 1.3 today from long range shots) and he is a matchwinner. We were better than the Demons today, but thanks to some umpire decisions and bad kicking we lost. Jack from the square for the rest of the year!

The scoreboard flattered us. You are making a silly sausage of yourself.
Jack couldn't play from the square because our forward line was congested.
We did not deserve to win and we were not the better side regardless of where Riewoldt played.

Load of rubbish .... Jack Riewoldt's deficiences have been shown up this year, with the opposition paying him a little more attention. He doesn't lead enough and is far too static, making it easy for the opposition to gather around him. He also lacks a bit of physical presence - unlike some of the names mentioned.

Not sure Jack playing just from the square would have got us over the line today, but how many times do our forwards run to the same spot. And how many times do we see our own guys run back with the flight of the ball and spoil the leading up forward. That's basic football mistakes, and my messgae to Dimma is. Start coaching from the box!! He would have to be missing far too much standing downstairs, and you have to see things with your own eyes not rely on other guys in the box.

He was getting clearly beaten by Frawley close to goal, so he was moved up the ground to try and get into the game, but was still beaten.

Very good player, but didn't matter where he was playing Frawley had his measure today. That makes it 2-1 Frawleys way in the last two years. Will be a great matchup to watch for the next ten years.

I would have preferred if they had of kept Vickory deep. But we played both up the ground for a long period of the game with no real target. We were leading towards goals.

Injury or not, and regardless of where he's playing, shit like that ridiculous snap over his head from the pocket make me want to cry. it annoys me a little even when he's playing well so when he's not I find it very frustrating.

The loss was our own fault, we were absolutely pathetic, unfortunately the umpires had it in for us all day as well. Jack has been playing crap for a fair while now whether in the square or not.

This team is nowhere near top 8 material.

I cant see us making it this year or next year.

Thanks for reminding me of that shit! :o I cringed when I seen that. It's unbelievable some of the shit he tries. I love him and all but your post is spot on. Even last week early on he was crying like his cousin because things didn't go his way.

On a slightly more serious note, I don't understand our forward set-up.
Jack is one of the better one-on-one marks in the comp, and we set up with multiple forwards inside 50, which simply draws congestion to him, negative his effectiveness.

I'd almost play him one out, with the rest of our forwards between the centre square and the fifty. It would allow Jack room to move, but also still give us the opportunity to implement a forward zone. We don't have the physical strength to implement a forward press. Therefore, if Jack loses the one on one, opposition looks up and sees bodies everywhere.

It always kills me that we clutter up Jack's space, and then when opposition defences get the footy they clear it to the wing with ease.

I ain't no coach, but can't understand why we set up to negate the major strength of our key forward.

What's the point of playing him in the square when he doesn't even lead up half the time, and doesn't win 1 on 1s anymore because he is always double teamed.

I thinks it got to with the theory of trying to keep the ball in the forward fifty by having our smaller forwards applying pressure and keeping the ball in, whilst we set another zone in the middle of the ground as a second defence.

he's been pushed out of the sq in an attempt to run him into some form. he is struggling big time being marauded by 2 on 1s in the sq...TV appears better at combatting this by leading whereas JR prefers to play into defenders hands by staying put...they need to think this through

that snap made me cringe, he's just desperate for goals.

it was even worse because we had just seen him drill a perfect pass i50 after directing all the traffic for 10 seconds to ty vickery

i like this idea sort of a pagans paddock type thing just kick it to him one out, and see how much better he will be not one on two and three as it has been of late. also dimma said he is slightly injured, sore.
