I have to say the last two weeks having Mitch back playing as a midfielder has been a revelation. We have all been hoping for several years he could take the step from a B grade player to an A grade one. It seemed he had the potential, but over the last two seasons has failed to make the jump. I don't want to count my chickens yet, but if he can playing like he has for the last few weeks then he's arrived at long last. He had 18 contested possession last night in a match high of 38.

Keep up the good work Mitch.

What a great game- totally agree that he has stepped up over the past two weeks and, according to Scott, is now being played in his best position. (Scott appeared to be apologetic about the previous weeks, as if he'd done Mitch an injustice by playing him anywhere else).

Here are a few of Mitch's quarter by quarter stats. You can see his performance was pretty even across the board, though his disposal in the 3rd Q fell over a little bit...

He'd be very very happy with that game, I think.

Its amazing how Geelong keep getting these South Australian and Western Australian players with not really early draft picks

For what it is worth - i heard or read some where that Duncans father wasnt a bad player for East Fremantle i think in the WAFL
I know that it really shits Crows' supporters that a lot of talent from SA get drafted after the highly rated Victorian draftees, by mainly Victorian clubs, which manage to keep them in Vic.

By contrast, Adelaide seemingly have a lot of trouble keeping their talented highly rated Vic players. Someone on the Adelaide board only yesterday was lamenting how "Gregson was under our nose the whole time".

But back to Mitch. It was his best game to date. Hopefully the club can keep him happy over here. He seems to be a leader and thinks the world of Joel Selwood, so playing alongside someone you have the utmost respect for goes a long way.

Its funny however that the SA clubs lose or miss these players and then get dirty about it. If you think the home state factor is an issue - then take them.

I think Adelaide need to try and target the Vic country boys, in the same way that Wells has done. I am not sure you can convince players who are city boys and used to the high life in Melbourne, to stay in a quiet city like Adelaide. Either that or go for the WA players. Find players who fit into your lifestyle- rather than try and fit a square peg into a round hole.

Poor old Mitch!

I posted this on the photoshop thread, but thought I would put it here too for the Cat fans.

There are some posters on this board who appear to underrate Mitch Duncan. Personally I think he's one of the most important players we have.

He's fast approaching elite levels, if not there already. My tip is he'll play a blinder on Friday.

Get around him.

He's elite in my book.

Who underrates him?? :fearscream:

Duncan has looked slower this year. And is getting caught more then usual. Awesome at sitting out on the wing and half back flank and getting uncontested marks though. He is killing dream team because of it. Needs to be doing more damage in the forward half. hasn't yet reached the levels of early last year.

Elite as in top twenty players in the comp? Or is your measure of elite weaker than that?
Can you give me your scale please?

Ie. What order (or are they equal) for very good, excellent, elite, great, superstar, champion, legend. Etc.

By the way. Weren't you the one that said Duncan is not in our top best players?
Just want to know for context.

Also, does anyone have the champion data preseason info for how many Geelong players (and who they were) in the elite category?

I don't know why anyone argues whether a player is elite or not when no one has ever bothered to describe what elite is and how many players can be elite. Just trying to understand what they mean by elite when they say he is elite.

Honestly when he came into the side in 2011 I thought he slotted in almost as well as Selwood did in 2007. Obviously he hasn't kicked on as much as Selwood went on to but he is one player who's effort and endeavour has never been questionable IMO, even if his disposal is a bit sloppy at times.
I think you mean 2010

dud, average, good, great, champion, superstar.
I have Duncan as great and see him getting into my champion category.
His use of the ball and decision making is borderline best in the league.

I thought he showed great poise in what would have been in his first 20 games when he slotted a goal from 45m on the run at a crucial stage 2011 GF

I think he only played half a dozen games so I don't really count it as being part of the side. Just got a taste for it.
So not the same as selwood then who slotted into the side from his first season. Not his second like Duncan. In 2011 Christensen and Menzel, both drafted from the same year as Duncan, stood out more than Duncan.
