MIitch Thorp and Beau Dowler, two high drafts picks . Why can't they get game ? Are they struggling at Box Hill ? Especially Mitch Thorp this kid can play, would be getting a game at any other club.

think about it. two forward. one a big strong kid who is a good pack/contested mark, one extremely agile, enormous pace.

see why they might struggle ahead of two established players with veyr very similar atributes.

perhaps Carlton can fork out a heap for them, even then, they aint going nowhere.

I watched Dowler against Geelong playing for Box Hill earlier this year & he looked dangerous.

He suffered pretty bad injuries in a car crash just after he was drafted. That didn't help.

Can play though. As can Thorp. Remember him kicking a few on Harley in the VFL last year.

Thorp is on his way back from hip surgery. He has not had a pre-season since he was drafted. Dowler has been one of box Hills best all year and has frequently been a Hawks emergency. Through all our injuries and suspensions this year, none have been to forwards so they have not cracked it for a game in 2008. Thorp signed last month so he is going no where.

Well i tell you this , if they keep playing them at Box Hill they won't be at Hawthorn long.

Thorp is yet to do a preseason due to recurrences of a hip injury. With Franklin and Roughead holding down the key forward spots, Mitcch has been trialled at CHB at Box Hill with mixed results. Will be much better once he gets a preseason under his belt.

Dowler has been struggling for confidence after some serious injuries that delayed his start to a senior career. The second half of this season at Box Hill has seen him freed up to play across half back or on a wing where he has been outstanding.

Both will be very good players that are going to give Al Clarkson some headaches over the next six months as he plans how he is going to fit them both in for 2009.

Thorp signed until end of 2010, Dowler 2009.

If they don't start getting more game time in the next couple of years they would be stupid to stay at Hawthorn.
I think it's fair to say they'll get more game time over the next couple, Stylus.

It's amazing how quickly you can pick the people making comments that have a very limited understanding of what they are actually talking about. Both Dowler and Thorp have missed multiple games for Box hill wih injury/rehabilitation. both have suffered serious injuries that have required surgery and long lay-offs. It is not as though they are playing week after week in the 2's and not getting rewarded with a game for the Hawks. If this were the case, they would have been fighting it out with the like of Boyle, Williams etc for a spot.

If they are both fit next year i think you will see both of them playing. Mitch Thorp at chb and i am pretty sure dowler has spent some time on the wing at box hill.

Both have been overcoming significant injuries.

His car crash was actually before we drafted him. We picked him with a long term view that we probably wouldn't get much out of him in the first 2 or 3 years. Same with Beau Muston but unfortunately he did his knee again. Was showing good signs in the nab cup too.

Would love to see the dogs try and lure say Thorp but its doubtful (which we give us 3 promising young kpp fowards developing) but if anything we'll probably try and lure Dawson (is he still on your list).

I love Dawson, great bloke.

spoke to him a few weeks ago, and he loves the hawks, but said he isnt confident about being re-signed.

Hawks may get rid of him for a late pick, dont want it though

No way would we let thorp go. Just signed for 2 years and is apparently happy to be at hawthorn. Just needs to get his body right. Expect to see him in the backline next year.

Tim Boyle might be on the market and i would say dawson will be delisted.

Thorp can play. Give him time, he will be an good AFL player, no doubt about it. Serious class about him. Way too talented to consider trading. Could be the player to help us gain some ground on the cats next year with another weapon in our spine.

Dowler has talent, but I'm wondering where a spot will open up for him.

Trade period coming up I'd put your gun back in your holster Duke.:D

Both have showed nothing for pick six in the draft dont come up with exuses hawks supporters you like to bag other clubs but your shit doesnt stick:thumbsdown:

Thorp hasn't been fit enough to play at afl level yet. Hasn't had a preseason in his 2 years at the club.

i stand corrected. however i heard thorp had an ego issue which hawthorn didnt like (a figjam type) probably false though. lets see how 2009 pans out for these 2. they are very very good.

There is a bit of a difference between a player who has been in a car wreck like Dowler and a player who is a car wreck in Tambling. We can't all draft superstars like Fiora, JON and Tambling like the Tuggers.
