In a strange way I think we'll miss his batting down the order.

Cant imagine our bowling attack not being better off though.

Bad news for him personally. Wish him well. Im sure he wont mind spending more time with that partner of his.

Re: Mitchell's Johnson's carrer at crossroads.

Might play a few more games here and there, but if he isn't incumbent, I can't see him demanding a starting spot.

It's up to the rest of them to take their chance now.

By the end of the summer we might all be begging for MJ to come back

Would be very surprised if this wasn't it for him at international level.

Tests?

Still got a pretty darned good ODI record.

Re: Mitchell's Johnson's carrer at crossroads.

I really, really wich I could say I am disappointed with this.

I'd be lying though.

He's no good. I hope for his sake he can make a strong recovery and get back to playing good cricket for WA, but I fear his international days are going to take a lengthy break.

i completely disagree with this, if he was "no good" he wouldn't have the ability to take a test 8fa, let alone the best part of 200 test wickets

he is nothing more than a good cricketer, that is horribly out of form, you are kidding yourself if you think any less than this.

Ok how about this.

His exceptional days are way too infrequent, making him a liability 90% of the time. Waiting and waiting in the hope that he’ll have one of his 8fa days cannot continue. He leaks runs; he gives no support to the bowler up the other end because he releases pressure with his 4 balls. Bottom line is he's far too unreliable and we're better off without him because 1 dominating match per year will hardly improve our ranking.

It's a sad day in Australian cricket when you can't help but think 'thank God he got injured and is out for four months because there was no other way he was going to be dropped'.

Not just in being happy one of our own needs surgery, but in the fact our selectors are so clueless this was the only way to move him on.

Agree with this. He's a good secret weapon as your 4th bowler because not even he knows where the ball's going, let alone the batsman.

But as a #1 or #2 bowler? Not a chance.

Apparently injured while batting in the final innings in SA, the commentators seemed to think that he had something go through his foot (probably a spike from his boot) while running for a single in that last innings. Does anyone else remember that?

Could this be a major controversy if he misses 5 months and possibly derails his international career because of a dodgy cricket shoe?

All going to plan with the new crop of quicks coming through, I don't see him playing for Australia in test matches again. At best, Johnson will be fighting the likes of Siddle and Harris for the role of third or fourth seamer.

Yeah the commentators thought were that a spike had gone through the sole of his shoe and lodged itself in his foot.

Sad to see him injured, but looking at it positively it means younger, superior bowler/s will get a decent crack in all forms.

Good luck to him with the recovery, hopefully he can work out what he needs to do with his action in order to get it back to where it once was for a brief time.
