bluemarq I'm drinking a latte right now, what's wrong with that? It's a flavoursome beverage.

I hate all the "themed" rounds as much as anyone but at the end of the day who really notices anyway? If it makes some others feel more included what skin is it off my nose. Good on the AFL for fostering inclusiveness of women and other cultures into our sport, it's not like there hasn't been a historical need for it.

Because by creating a round 'highlighting' the issue, it actually makes the AFL look racist.
What a load of ignorant rubbish. Absolutely ignorant.

It's shameful to see these types of comments on BigFooty. Not surprising, but shameful nonetheless.

Should I merge all of these "White guys got it so hard" threads? Call it "A Decade of BigFooty Bogans".

Wasn't the last round womens round or something? Every round has a theme. Personally I'm looking forward to the 80's round.

Mummy, mummy ...look, its a giant strawman!!!

Whose saying white guys have it so hard? The objection to multicultural round is that it is devisive, unnecessary, embarrasing in its simpering, pandering correctness and a pathetically transparent attempt to invigorate interest in the GWS - who are about as popular in Western Sydney as Gina Rinehart at a Greens rally.

Still complaining about GWS bluemarq. I'm sure AFL HQ will take notice if you keep up your hysteria.

I guess that explains why the first "multicultural round" was in the SANFL. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/sanfl-multicultural-round.611508/

To be honest I couldn't give a toss about any of the "xxx rounds", but if it helps to get a few more people interested in the game and feel included, then why not...

Let's try this. If you're a kid who gets taken to Auskick every week and ses other kids like you, just a bit older, playing the game on TV and at the ground each week, you don't need a special round or reflection to make you feel like you belong in footy. If you aren't - because you're a girl, or from an Asian or African background, or from any culture that doesn't automatically play the game - it is actually important someone takes a minute to say you are welcome and could be an important part of the game if you want to be.

It's not just a nice thing to do, and it's not just about western Sydney, it's about making every kid and family in Australia feel more part of the Australian game so they are more likely to watch it, play it and support it financially.

If you think that's a bad thing, you have serious issues.

Has anyone actually read the article on afl.com.au about it?

Out of the 50 player squad of multicultural players, a good deal of them have either English, Irish or New Zealand as their heritage. Basically, they are celebrating the fact that many players have either been born overseas or had atleast one parent born overseas.

This in itself does not inherently mean 'minority' - There is still a place this round for the straight out anglo-white -

The one thing that bothered me is on afl.com.au as the background to the main page they have a whole lot of different languages saying (I am assuming, I can't read them all) something to the effect of 'Australia's Only Game' or something like that. Anyway, there is some 'Spanglish' - 'Un solo sport' - Huh? Sport in Spanish is 'deporte' - it should read 'un solo deporte' -

Heaven forbid the AFL trying to be inclusive. How dare they say that this game is open to all. How dare they say that this game should celebrate all that's good about our society. The multicultural round exists so that the bogans can come out of the woodwork and show their true colours by complaining about it.

It's just another round. Get over it.

be.

.

I suspect those self same kids are likely to turn away if they feel (quite rightly) that they are being patronised and used as a vehicle by which a certain type of inner city intelligentsia can smugly demonstrate their moral superiority.

I find this sort of sanctimonious crap (the round, not your post) irritating rather than deeply offensive - just as indigenous round has given rise to all sorts of embarrassing, cringeworthily patronising garbage about indigenous people's supposed "natural abilities", I suspect multi-culti round will do the same.

We don't need it - as demonstrated by the fact that we've never had it before.

We've had nearly every different race/religion play the game, African, Asian, Indian, Christian, Jewish, Muslims all playing the game, and it's fantastic. We should focus on the players not their background... The issue should be done.

I love these threads, as for the people trying to attack anyone with a problem with it. your reaction and clear bigotry against the white fellas highlights how much of a ****ing racist you clearly are oh every other round is whitey's round ****ing bogans.

Pack of deadshits all the same sit round and pollute our youth with your rubbish us against them mentally your are disgrace to this country, your why we need these rounds. To busy listening to the old unemployed elders about great everything was till the evil whitey showed up. Get rid of you and let our people be comfortable with who they are and we won't need these rounds because every bodies already bloody welcome, but as always you lot are never happy without fighting some fight against the whites.

The funny part is you think a corporation gives a shit about you because your from a certain background they don't like all the bogan whitey devil's they only care that you want to be a part of it all, but like a spoilt special ed kid you lot need special attention and berate anyone who thinks differently.

So on one hand everyone whines that refugee and other migrants don't do enough to integrate with "us" and yet at the same time a round dedicated to raise awareness of the indigenous game and migrant's contribution to it is greeted with scorn. What is it to be chaps?
