at the turn of the century, long before being known as the coleman medal there were three successive years that where the VFL leading goal kickers were 4 players from 2 clubs.

1891 - Fred Hiskins (Essendon): 34 goals
1890 - Albert Thurgood (Ess), Teddy Lockwood (Geel): 24 goals each
1889 - Eddy James (Geelong): 31 goals

Eddy James' career ended in an injury sustained in the 1890 season, so they didn't quite play alongside each other as leading goal kickers, but it was in the making

As mentioned above Teddy Lockwood also topped the goal kicking while at Collingwood, but in a twist similar to the case above, Charlie Pannam's effort was in Lockwood's final season so they never actually played together as the acknowledged leading goal kickers as Fevola and Brown will.

Would Beasley/Templeton, Templeton/Quinlan have played in the same team? Bit before my time...Heatley and Plugger?

Roach and BT definitely were. Depends whether you specify they already had their Colemans when they were together

Gordon Coventry started his career with Dick Lee (he led the Goalkicking 6 times) & ended it with Ron Todd (he led the Goalkicking 3 times & kicked 327 goals in 75 matches).

Would Beasley/Templeton, Templeton/Quinlan have played in the same team?.

Both K. Templeton (1978 - 118 goals; 1979 - 91 goals) and S. Beasley (1985 - 105) played for Footscray in 1982. Templeton was traded to Melbourne for the 1983 season.

I am not certain whether they played in a game together but they were both on the club list in 1982. It is highly likely they did.

Having said that, Beasley was not technically a Coleman Medalist until 1985. Secondly, I query whether it was known as the Coleman Medal in 1978 and 1979? It may be that it was just known as the leading goal kicker.

Templeton and Quinlan together played for Footscray from 1974 to 1977. Neither, at that time, were Coleman Medalists. Quinlan was traded to Fitzroy in 1978.

Templeton (Footscray) lead the VFL goal kicking in 1978 (118) and 1979 (91).
Quinlan (Fitzroy) lead the VFL goal kicking in 1983 (116) and 1984 (105).

In answer to my own question above, it has been known as the John Coleman Medal since 1955 (Source: The official statistical history of the AFL: 2003).

I know Neitz won it in 2002 and Robbo came close a few years later while they were both still playing

Carey and Longmire (1990 Coleman) are the closest recently I would say, along with Roughead and Franklin.
