Club showing alot of faith in young Ryan going all out for Tarrant, when everyone knows Freo need more midfielders.

Does the club rate him or what?

Very poor attempt at trolling.

This aint no troll.

Surely you Docker fans are asking a similar question?

Midfield is where the dockers need to improve, not the forward line. Your forward line is already strong and efficient, the only thing that needs to improve is to get it down there more and deliver better. Pav, Farmet, Murphy, Longmuir et al do a very good job as it is.

A midfielder who wins clearances, has pace etc would be much more use. He might not be available at this trade week but you wont be able to get this player next year when you have Tarrants 400k salary clogging up the cap.

Murphy and Tarrant play diffrent posistions. Murphy is a leading FF while Tarrant is a leading Half Foward.

So where is Pav in all this??

People forget the best forward lines function with a limited number of talls. You need to isolate you gun players like Pavlich.

I'm somewhat in your corner although I believe Murph will be a quality forward.
However, Freo should be chasing midfielders.
If we have to trade Polly then I would be trying to do a deal with the Roos over Wells. Polly plus a second round draft pick perhaps.
That would improve the team and give the Roos a bit more depth.
I'm not sure Tarrant up forward will add that much although I accept that the kid can play.

Wells just came 2nd in their B&F, we wouldn't trade Johnson for Damon White and a 2nd rounder. So i can't see North giving him up so easy.

It'd be Polak, Medhurst and our 1st round before they'd blink, i think they would probably still decline the offer.

In no way would we get Wells to Fremantle without paying over the odds.

The reason our team started winning so many games in a row, is because we were running teams off their feet. Tarrant will help this, he runs massive distances and would complement the Fremantle running game very well. I'd like him in our team, and just hope that Dunn or another X-factor can step up and help the midfield.

All in all it aint in that bad a shape. Hasleby, Carr X2, Peake, Crowley, Bell, Headland, Schammer, Cook, McManus....also looking within the list: Drum, Dunn, Johnson, Duffield could all make cameo's in the midfield. Getting Tarrant also allows Pav to make more appearances in the midfield. Probably splitting his time 30/70 midfield/forward.

Our midfield will look a lot better next season with Drum in there and Johnson running around on a wing.

I'm with rguaci on Tarrant... let's bring him over. Play a Tarrant CHF, Murphy FF, and Pav to roam in between FF and the midfield ala James Hird style.

If we could also get Richard Hadley or Mark Coughlan, well then I'll be one happy camper.

I think the thread should read. Longmuir a dud??? He has been far more dissapointing in the forwardline than Murphy. Though not sure how bad his injury was, might have an excuse.

I like what you are saying Kenny re Tarrant - but what would you consider a fair price for him? Serious question.

Well if you target a player, you hardly ever get a fair price.

Personally, I think if we gave Polak and pick 13, and recieved Tarrant and Pick 42, that is as fair as can be expected.

Tarrant and Pick 26 for Polak and Pick 13 in a perfect world but there's not much chance of that happening.

Tarrant for Polak and pick 13 is probably slightly over the odds but we have a premiership chance over the next 2-3 years so I wouldn't be upset if we did it.

I rate Tarrant a lot higher than most on our board obviously but I think he will be a great fit to our side. In our final against Sydney, Pav was the only one that looked like he could score. Tarrant gives us a real 2nd option and someone that will work really hard across HF and Pav can then be an inside 50 target rather than getting the ball on the wing.

If you look at the stats from last season, and inside 50 targets, Pavlich was pretty low in comparison to other big name forwards. Tarrant running up the ground and Murphy leading out from FF gives Pavlich a better chance of being isolated one out also imo.

Connolly, Shaw, Harvey etc know what they are doing... they wouldn't be chasing him for no reason. So for 1) gives Pavlich a 2nd foil in big games, 2) helps isolate Pavlich, 3) gives our running defenders a target at HF, especially at Subi where players like Hansen are so effective (because of the size of the ground), 4) will lessen any pressure put on Murphy and will allow him to develop at his own pace and 5) will allow Longmuir to play primarily as a backup ruckman which means less gametime and a better chance of staying healthy, I think getting Tarrant is a plus.

Do you?

Would you prefer Pavlich one-out with an opponent or contesting with Tarrant and Murphy and their opponents in the forward line?

I don't listen to people who don't have who they support on display. Who do you support and why do you care?

Yeah I see where you're coming from and scenario 1 would obviously be "best case" in terms of what may happen.

What about the talk of Polak + pick 13 + another player for Tarrant only (no 3rd rounder)? That seems way over the odds IMO. My feeling, after the initial outrage, is that CC & co are not likely to let that happen... but if they are seriously keen on tarrant - for all the reasons you mentioned - then they may be tempted.

Thing is that really bothers me - in this so called superdraft - we're going to end up with another pair like Stribling and Copping, like we did in 2004.... :thumbsd:
Yeah, I know that premiership window is open for about 3 years from now.... but what about the free-fall that happens after that? Especially if there's no silverware to show for it. :o

Such a fine balancing act - now vs future. :(

It is a superdraft because of how deep it is. Really, after the top 6-8 picks, there doesn't seem to be a hell of a lot difference between the next dozen or two dozen players. Obviously I wouldn't know because I havn't watched all the kids play but that is the feeling I get.

Good post. In the final against Sydney , in the 3rd quarter we dominated the inside 50's yet got out scored.

No we got outscored in the third quarter because of the umpires, poor umpiring decisions contributed to Sydney's last 3 goals of the quarter.

That's why it is hard to understand the clubs stance on Medhurst. If we get Tarrant, where is Medhurst going to fit in? If we are planning on trading our first pick for Tarrantula and our 3rd round for Solomon, why not take pick 34 from west coast for Medhurst? I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't have 3 picks in the first 3 rounds.

You'd never get him one out on a consistent basis - the levy has broken.

Yes, because our midfield DID NOT GET IT IN QUICK ENOUGH.

We need midfielders NOT more forwards.

There are always going to be times when we cannot or are not allowed to get it in quick enough especially in big finals.

Thats when we need the plan B that some complain we don't have.

We need to maximise the return from times when we do go inside 50 and that did not happen well enough in the PF.

He had three on him in quite a few of the last games of the year. One direct opponent, one dropping into the hole and one lurking in the general direction, zoning off his man and looking to generally get in Pav's way.

David Brent was obviously dancing while this was happening.
