Re: Pendlebury Captain

Pendles seems like a quiet achiever, i think we need another Buckley type. Someone whose not afraid to tell people what their doing wrong and have 100% confidence in themselves they are doing the right thing. I dont think Pendles has that confidence.

Maxwell does but he isn't a very good footballer that can stay in the team.

Re: Pendlebury Captain

So if most members / supporters have an opinion on who should captain the Magpies, and each of those people recognize that the football department will choose the most capable player to fill that position, then enjoy the off season. Tune your missuss, walk the dog, do odd jobs for your neighbour, tune your neighbours missuss. Rest assured, the right choice will be made. You get the captain you deserve, .... or is that government... ., whatever.

Re: Pendlebury Captain

Rocca by a mile. Pendles is too young and too soft. Maybe in a year or 2.

Pendles is not soft. I am a critic at some of his attacks on the ball at times but his not soft. His inside. He wins his own ball is willing to go in and get it. Is good in the clinches. Doesn't "hear footsteps." There are a few select occasions most when the contact will be head on where he tries to be to clever and avoid contact but he is far from soft.

Your kidding yourself, his had an average year and he is not ready to be captain. He needs to focus on his development before becoming a captain!

He had a year that statistically wasn't much worse then last year despite having much more attention the last year. His attack on the ball was far better. His work inside improved too.

As for leadership qualities he has shown. See MDC's post.

Re: Pendlebury Captain

- Have seen him speak up in huddles on TV at least twice, which is incredible considering he's 20.

Got Any Vision of that because I have not seen him do that

PENDLES FOR SKIPPER 2009

Re: Pendlebury Captain

id love to see this kid lead our club but to me he looks a little to quiet to be a great leader. i think fraser is a better bet at this stage

Re: Pendlebury Captain

- Clearly regarded as one of the hardest working guys at the club.
- Along with Didak, the only player on the list with the creativity, skill and willingness to make others around him better.
- Is our only midfielder who's actually prepared to work hard defensively rather than just run forward of the ball all the time.
- Was the only one who gave Tarrant a spray in the first Freo game when a bunch of others were playing buddy-buddy.
- Have seen him speak up in huddles on TV at least twice, which is incredible considering he's 20.

How's that?

i remember that. loved that moment

Re: Pendlebury Captain

well yes he is a great player, and will only get better, but seriously when have any of us noticed stand out leadership qualities from pendles on or off the field? the reason the coaching staff love him is because he is 'safe'.. he is the kinda guy that will go through his whole career and never get into any trouble on or off the field? is that the kind of skipper we want?

i dunno you tell me.. i dont want it.

The 2008 premiership captain? what is he like? Mitchell is hard, tough, angry, physical, even sometimes unfair, but his on field qualities and temprement gets people around him up and about. for too long we have been too soft. I dont want pendles for skipper. I'd rather Swan!

and Fraser, ha if brent harvey can rag doll him, then good luck !!
yeh mitchell was a stand out in the GF right??

Re: Pendlebury Captain

As a pure Big Footy poster, how much cred does this information from another forum actually have?

Re: Pendlebury Captain

What's the rush with a young captain?? I say give it to Rocca for however long he is around for - 2 years max - and let a couple of VCs emerge under him. Rocca won't play every game which gives younger guys chance to trial captaincy.

Pendles still has his own game to master and captaincy may not suit him. Naturally we will support him if he comes in, but am uncertain as to his hard physicality and power to inspire. If the club chooses him, clearly he has these attributes but I wouldn't be rushing to give the captaincy to a youngy for another year ot two.
